Hi everyone, I need your opinion. Being poor students, we didn't have very much budget to buy me a ring, but I didn't want just a band with a diamond on it. So, a while ago, I saw this scott kay platinum setting on overstock for around 750.00. It has 0.27 ct of side baguettes and suprise diamond (total is 6 little stones), I don't know what the quality of the stones were, but I figured since it was a scott kay, it couldn't be that bad. I got my bf to buy it back then. It didn't come with any scott kay papers, but it did come in a scott kay box and is inscribed. It's a pretty thin band/ring, 2.5mm. Now, since I've been reading this forum, I am really worried. Was this a bad choice? Was the price too high to pay for a scott kay or not setting? Thank you for your opinions and comments. Oh, the center stone is CZ, so we still have to look for one, I guess I was simply buying the setting.

It doesn't sound like a bad deal at all, especially if it is a Scott Kay. Mine is inscribed with "ScottKay", and "Plat". If your ring has that, more than likely it's the real deal! When I had mine appraised I was told that the diamonds in it are well cut, G in color. Most Scott Kay's carry a premium (brand name and all ), so the price you paid sounds really good!Congrats and good luck on finding a center diamond!

If it really is a Scott Kay setting and I have no reason to believe it isn't you got a good deal. You can check out Scott kay pricing on Pearlman's website if you curious but Scott Kay settings are not inexpensive. sounds like you did good..

Sounda like a fabulous deal to me ... honestly I can't even BELIEVE what platinum prices are like right now. For a nice platinum setting with sidestones???? I think you'll be very happy you bought what you did when you did ... as long as the jeweler doesn't have any problems removing the CZ and replacing it with your chosen diamond. Depending on the size diff between the cz & the new stone, you might have to change heads? But even so ... probably decent-to-really good-to FABULOUS deal ... based on current & future platinum prices!

Thanks AmantdeChat. My ring is indeed inscribed with "ScottKay" and "PLAT", I guess it is the real deal then. Did your scott kay come with a CZ or the real thing? If it came with the CZ, did you have problems switching it out with a diamond? Again, thank you for your help!

Hi mrssalvo~ Thank you for your response. I just took a look at Pearlman website and am so shocked. A similar ring to mine (theirs is with less sidestones) is selling for 2,415.00. Is that price actually honored at the store? If so, wow, I got a great deal! I love getting deals! A ring like mine can sell for that much???? That makes me want to find a wedding band on overstock. Hahah.

Hi decodelighted~ Thanks for responding! Platinum is so expensive right now. We were looking at plain platinum bands for BF and were shocked at how much they were. No diamonds, nothing! BF said he'd rather take the money and buy gold band with little surprise diamond. I never knew platinum was so out of my price range until now. Now, if I could find a diamond that was in my price range, that'd be a happy ending. :-)

Did your scott kay come with a CZ or the real thing? If it came with the CZ, did you have problems switching it out with a diamond? Again, thank you for your help! We actually bought my center diamond first and then went looking for a setting that would work. The jeweler I used does not put CZ's in their settings. They just leave them "empty" so you can see what your diamond or one of their diamonds will look like in it. That said, it was a very easy, painless process. Took about 3 days to resize the ring and put my diamond in it. Check out your local jeweler's and see what they have to say. Good luck!
