So I had been set on black cocktail dresses for my two BMs. But given as it looks like the wedding will be in a garden at about 9:30/10AM, I think black would be a little too funeral for that hour of the morning. Anyone with me?

My new idea is a dark, jewel toned green (forest, very dark toned emerald, etc). The problem is that I have not been able to find ANY dresses in that color!!! I've found lighter greens, brownish greens, sage greens, etc. Nothing in this kind of dark emerald-black/pine-y color I have in my head.

Has anyone seen anything in this color? I wanted to pair it with ivory and purples (although FI has been making his disdain for all things cream clear, so we'll see on that)

rainbow,
i am having the same dilemma (see my post re. needing color help)re. black vs. darker autumn color.

i'm not sure about dark green, but off the top of my head i think ann taylor had some nice burgundy color,
also some designer bm's have separates that i think i saw in the dark greens,
jim hjelm, mon cheri (although their bm dresses are a different designer name, check out moncheribridal.com)
and others.
but if you want off the rack, i'm not too sure other than maybe checking ann taylor.

good luck!

Alfred Sung has some dresses in "Hunter" in duchess satin.

Also, After Six and Dessy both have some stretch charmeuse dresses in "Emerald".

I hope that this helps! (I'm also toying with the idea of emerald bm dresses, although we're probably going to end up with blue ones.)

J.Crew has a few of their BM dresses in hunter green as well. Although that's probably not dark enough. How about chocolate color?

Hmm. Not so down on the chocolate, Indie, thanks though. The JCrew is way too light for what I was thinking..

That "hunter" dress by Sung is a little closer, although it is hard to tell on a computer monitor. Shantung might be a nice fabric option too, if it could get a nice black-green shimmer to it.

Hmm. I went and looked at her wedding pics and the dresses looked a little light. I'm starting to think maybe a layer of black chiffon or organza over a green underskirt might be closer to the look.

My backup option is a dark royal purple.

As someone once required to wear a full length emerald colored bridesmaids gown, let me suggest tea- or knee- length for the jewel tones. Full length is just too much green. Of the dresses posted, I love the first strapless one. It looks great, simple, and the focus is on the color without a lot of other embellishments.

Along with the 9-10AM time, I am totally going with the shorter BM dresses.

As a clarification, though, I don't really want 'emerald," more of a dark blackish green color. My friend is doing a bright emerald for hers and I don't want to step on her toes.

My favorite is that first strapless one too.

rainbowtrout:  i'm not entirely sure of when your date is, but it's only mid-September.  Perhaps, as fall more fully arrives, the color palettes of clothing will be something closer to what you are envisioning?

Wedding is in late May...I just like the idea of a deep, cool green instead of a brighter leaf/emerald green. If you pair it with ivory and purples, I think it works for the garden setting and time of year without being too bright for my taste.

That's a good point about styles changing--though in this case it means they might change to have *nothing* in a dark hunter or forest green available. Arg.

I have nothing to add about the green, but honestly, I don't think black would be horrible, especially if it was a knee-length strapless cocktail dress or something of the sort. I think it would look chic and fashionable, not funeral-like at all.

Is this the emerald color you are thinking about? It almost looks black, but they called it emerald on Neiman Marcus website.

Almost--that, but with a bit of a sheen to it and a touch more green. I'll see if I can find a picture of the color in something else and post it. I know I'm being kind of vague

so like this, maybe a shade or two darker (but not muddier), in a better fabric. Maybe black sash or lace trim on the dresses. Argh. It's a good thing I have a bit for this whole dress thing, because it confounds me more than anything else I've looked at.

Ah-ha! Lazaro to the rescue again. I do wish they weren't so expensive. What I have been thinking of is the effect and color of the top of this dress...

And so far my leading dress idea is something like the shorter version of this (I did have a draw to ruffles, but my girls might shoot me).

So I imagine the top in a emerald-y grn like the first Lazaro I posted and then the black lace over the color in the skirt. Of course lazaro doesn't *make* the dress in green, oh well. I'm also not sure doing it like that wouldn't ruin the nice contrast effect between skt and bodice that "makes" this style.

Too strict looking for a May garden wedding?
