I just found out online there are such a thing as "pew cards" for a ceremony. I guess they are generally used just when you want specific family/friends in certain rows during the ceremony and are presented to the usher. I guess they are either enclosed with the wedding invitation or sent after the RSVP is received. Our ceremony site fits 125, but not if everyone sits 2 or 3 to a pew. to take confusion out we were considering a pew card, even though we're expecting maximum 105 people. Our ceremony is at a museum, where guests will be greeted by staff with a map of the grounds, etc for their use between ceremony and reception. We were thinking of having pew cards handed out at this time (i.e. make up an envelope for each guest prior to the day, and alphabetize them and provide them to the staff beforehand) With the ushers each having a list as well for backup. It may be a non-issue but I would really hate to have the seating get confusing. At first it seemed a bit "sports event" like to me, but since they will be getting "handouts" anyway I thought it might relieve some of the stress. We are close enough to everyone coming so that it would be no big deal to sort of communicate this beforehand. |

If you are having ushers, I would just have them make sure that the space gets used efficiently. I've never heard or pew cards being used for everyone, usually they're just for the front few pews (if your ushers won't know who to seat in the front). It's not that there's anything wrong with it, but I think it's probably not worth the effort to assign everyone a pew. Just tell the ushers to seat people so that each pew gets filled up. I don't think it will be a problem.
