The larger question is: What exactly are you looking for and what kind of diamond shopper are you? There's a diamond out there for everybody and if you happen to be willing to sacrifice "make" for size then perhaps this stone is for you. I would recommend you at least get a photo of the stone if you can't see it in person. Among other things, the SI2 grade can be a bit tricky due to lots of variables (not the least of which is the lab that issued the report, which you fail to mention). While no princess cut can be conclusively judged by the limited information you have supplied, I can say pretty confidently that the large table will probably look like a skating rink compared to other, better made princess cuts. Another warning sign about the stone's make is that the stone finished out just a hair above the 3.00ct threshold. This is almost never a happy coincidence. Best of luck! Bill Scherlag IceMine.com |

I'd pretty much concur Bill's comments here. 81% table. 71.2% depth with a 5.5% crown height sounds like the recipe for a watery looking stone. A good starting place (but still not a hard fast rule) for excellent looking princess cuts are either... a. Seek out AGS graded princess cuts for Ideal Cut or Ideal light performance or ... b. If you can't find any that are AGS graded, GIA graded with tables that are smaller than their total depths and checked by a professional who knows how to test diamonds for light performance. There are many good appraisers here who can do the job. Kind regards, Rhino |
