Hi all - I'm new to the forum. I've spent HOURS poring over this website - I just can't believe all the info. Anyway, here's my story - abbreviated!! For our 10th anniv hub surprised me with, "You can get a new setting for your diamond or upgrade." WOW - this was a no brainer. While I have ALWAYS love my 1.08 Lazare, I had always wished it was a little bigger (I feel really horrible saying that). Anyway, I feel so sorry for the guy - I don't think he had ANY idea just how much this would cost him. I went with another Lazare only because I know NOTHING about diamonds and I know I've loved my diamond and ALWAYS get compliments on it's sparkle. Well, believe it or not, I agonized over whether to go with a 1.5 or a 1.76. The 1.76 seemed HUGE. After agonizing for a few days, and with the help from people from another board with, "There's nothing wrong with a diamond with a weight problem," and "Have you ever heard of diamond shrinkage?" I decided on the 1.76 H VS1. I also looked at a 1.74 D SI2, but went with the first even though it was a bit more expensive. So now for the setting. I wasn't crazy about any settings that I'd seen but I had seen the Hearts on Fire Wondrous in another store (I noticed the store on the way to my first appt with the current store, and stopped in quickly). The store that I am dealing with got the Wondrous in but it holds a 2.0 carat and this just didn't fit. So they had to order a setting for the 1.76 and in a 5 1/2 size. It's going to take 7 weeks!!!! Is that normal? I'm going crazy second guessing myself. I wish their website had a better picture of it (I've seen some really clear pictures from websites here). Has anyone seen this setting? I don't know anything about settings, but this one seemed very expensive. Well, thanks in advance for any opinions!! I'll go back to reading... ![]() http://www.heartsonfire.com/img/WonBrdR.jpg |

Wow! It sounds like you are getting an excellent stone and the setting looks really nice, too! I think it is common for ordered settings to take several weeks to arrive. I was told 3 weeks for a ring today. Be thankful you had such an easy time finding a setting! I looked and looked and ended up with a pretty simple setting because I couldn't find anything that I just loved! Please come back and post pictures in the Show Me the Ring forum when the ring arrives! We definitely enjoy seeing fine quality diamonds around here!

Ooooh, lala! Can't wait for the pics on this project, it's going to be a stunner. Ditto about the time, 3-4 weeks is normal...despite the hard wait.

Thank you for your replies - I am a little anxious and of course seconding guessing everything I did. For instance, I decided on the H color with very few inclusions rather than the D color SI2. I was swayed by the fact that the H was more expensive - so to me (who knows little to nothing) I figured that meant the H was a better stone. But after reading many posts here, I'm getting the impression people might have gone with the D (eye clean is a term I'm just becoming familiar with!). I was worried that if not perfectly clean, the inclusions might have become more noticeable - or at least impact on the sparkle. Under a microscope there was a big one right smack dab in the middle. But I was also thinking, I always got compliments on my ering (1.08 Lazare - a typical comment was, "Why does it sparkle so much?") so surely I'd be happy with an H color. Do you guys have any thoughts about these two diamonds? I may post this question on it's own thread. Thanks!!

You will find a lot of people on PS who go for size over clarity. But I am not one of them. I want a fine quality diamond overall. I want great color (H and up), great clarity (VS and up), great cut (ideal/excellent), and as big a size as I can afford! Just to make you feel better, the diamond I chose for our anniversary is a 1.63 H VS1! The H color is near colorless but allows one to get a diamond over 1.5 cts. for a decent price. Well cut stones in H face up very white, but I relaly can't see tint in mine from the side either. It is usually not worth paying for D color, but it was the SI2 that brings that price down on the other stone. It is generally a little less expensive to buy hearts and arrows diamonds online as opposed to a regular jewlery store, but if you had a trade-in on your old diamond, then that would be the way to go usually! So don't worry, you did a lot better than most people who find PS after they have bought a diamond!

Personally I would have chosen the H VS1 over the D SI2 also. There is nothing wrong with an SI2 if it is eye clean, but most people really can't tell the difference between an H and a D when the stone is set. And I have to say that I LOVE the setting that you've chosen! I have a Hearts on Fire setting myself and I have been very impressed with the quality. As Diamondseeker said don't forget to post pictures of this beauty for us!!!

Thank you SOOOOO much Diamondseeker and Sundial - I instantly feel much better. More calm... Phew, this has been stressful! I am still in shock that my husband didn't blink an eye when I told him the price. There was much more to this story (about my trade in and an appraisal on another 1.02 carat I had) but I'll try and post later. THANK YOU again - you guys have made me even more anxious to get my ring!!

Trust me, we've been where you are and understand you feelings of doubt completely!!! But you should see the people who come on here and who have bought poorly cut diamonds, and it is hard for us to tell them that they didn't do very well. But I believe Lazarre diamonds are among the best name brand diamonds, so you had a very good eye from the start!

Good job on picking the upgrade and the setting!!! I like the stone you picked. The SI2 for an ering might bother me -- it's the whole mind clean thing. I think SI2 for earrings would be just fine with me but not for an ering. It would be mind clean for other folks tho. I will be waiting to see your photos. Congrats!
