Anyone in Michigan or Northwest Ohio have jewelry insured through Chubb with a stand alone policy? I'm really not liking what State Farm is telling me about their claims process, but every Chubb agent I've called around here isn't interested in dealing with me unless I switch my other policies over to them...

call or email Bill castro at www.totaldollar.com. I emailed him and he got back to me in a day or two. He'll write a stand alone policy.

I went through Bill Castro and I'm in that area of Ohio. I needed a stand alone policy too.

Date: 9/7/2006 1:21:47 PM What did SF tell you? I have them, and when I got my new ring insured, he said they'd try and find what I had, but if not they'd cash out. I told him they'd probably be hard pressed to replace what I had, and that I wasn't wanting to buy from anyone else other than this vendor in the future. He said that's the way most people felt, no problem.

mrssalvo- duh! thanks! my brain isn't working today...![]() State Farm basically told me they will replace it. They said they don't really ever cash anyone out. I told them it was a custom ring (it isn't, but just wanted to see what they'd say), and they said they'll try to work with the company I originally got the ring from, but that if they could get it cheaper from somewhere else they would do that. That just doesn't really sit well with me, if I can't get a Chubb policy I may have to go with State Farm but after talking to them I wasn't thrilled with what I heard. God forbid something happen to the ring, I don't really want some claims adjuster deciding what my fiancee will be wearing for the rest of her life...

Date: 9/12/2006 12:26:03 PM Well, that may be what they said, and what they want you to believe. But I would imagine, if you were insistant on an exact replacement, and they couldn't come up with it, they'll eventually fold. My guy wouldn't tell me they'll cash out if they won't. I know someone else on here went through this exact scenario, and because they couldn't come up with anything comperable (and they knew it), they cashed out in the end. Not sure that it was SF though.Author: youjane1 mrssalvo- duh! thanks! my brain isn't working today... ![]() State Farm basically told me they will replace it. Laney and I both went through our homeowners for a claim. I have allstate and i'm pretty sure so does she. We both carried our rings as a separate rider and had the like kind replacement policy. I had an OEC stone and they couldn't find anything close so they cashed me out. laney purchased her stone from GOG and submitted all the paper work. They couldn't find anything that she would accept that matched the specs of her original stone so they cashed her out as well. The key is making sure you have as detailed as possible appraisal making it hard for them to replace it. I will say that having just purchased a new stone I want a cash out policy which is why I pursued Chubb. They actually are not licensed in my state under some to gov't guidelines so I may swith my homeowners to Traveler's b/c they do offer a cash out policy for their jewelry.
