i went to whitehall jewelers at the mall this afternoon and my G/F really loved their certified whitestar collection solitaire engagement rings. i was reading through some of the threads in the forum and found out that alot of people don''t recommend buying rings from mall shops. the one thing that stood out from the other diamonds we''ve seen is their 93 facet rating on their diamond ring. we both really liked the way the light reflected from the diamond. the ring looks something like this

http://www.whiteflash.com/golden-wardrobe/Gold_Details.aspx?ItemCode=WF-4013&size=6.00#

but the price was no where near this. their ring was 0.75CT TW round ring and was priced around $4k. my question to you guys is where can I find a diamond with a high facet rating for a cheap price. the ring i listed above from whiteflash looks very nice and the 2ct WF-4013e price was $1,584.00 which was astonishing compared to the prices I saw at the mall today. what exactly would I be getting from whiteflash for this 2ct ring as oppose to the one I saw at the mall today. they don''t have a facet rating on any of their rings.

thanks

when it says 2 cts, that means the head where the diamond is held is made to fit a 2 ct stone.

So what kind of diamond do you want and what is your budget?

And what does high facet rating mean?  Do you mean it has more than 57 facets?

the store claims that their whitestar diamond is made of up to 93 perfectly placed facets. i guess I misread the ad. i thought it was 2kt ring w/diamond for $2k. i'm looking for a round cut diamond solitaire ring for a good price. one that looks like a tiffany setting type ring. i'm looking for .75 to 1 kt best color and best calrity for under $3500, (preferably $2000) if it exists. i'm new to the whole diamond ring search so I'm not that familiar with the prices, yet.

"Perfectly placed" is a lofty claim.

There are some high facet brands such as Solasfera, Star129, and Eighternity (available at Good Old Gold) that have enjoyed success.  For example, the Solasfera is cut to "max out" the metric on the BrillianceScope.  If you like the look, that's cool, though most posters have opined that extra facets on a stone under 1 ct is too busy.  Other PS vendors specialize in Hearts and Arrows or AGS 0 ideal stones.

Whitehall, in my opinion, sells complete crap for the price.

In platinum, the Tiffany knife edge replica http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/Platinum--Tiffany--Style-Knife-Edge_792.htm  You could ask for a white gold version to save money.

With maybe http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/round-ideal-cut-cut-diamond-2459657.htm which you will have to ask is eye-clean.  WF has quite good standards for eye-cleanliness (it is in the FAQ section of PS.)

2000 is just about the minimum you can spend on a .75 ct stone with ideal cut.

That stone has 57 facets.  And, yes, 57 facets is enough to produce amazing performance.  There's a reason why it's a classic.

Hearts and arrows round diamonds are diamonds which are cut to have excellent optical symmetry. They will surpass most of what can be bought at mall stores. You are fortunate you came here before buying if you really want a quality diamond!

I'd suggest a simple tiffany setting to allow the most money to go to the diamond.

To learn more about diamond quality, read the Knowledge section on this site and view the excellent pictures on the 4 C's tutorial on the Good Old Gold site.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/4Cs/

You could get something like these along with a wg tiffany setting (around $200):

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
If you're interested in more facets, perhaps a gabrielle cut diamond would be nice? Pictures of BlueKeets gabi-cut here:
