Well some of you know about all my diamond drama and I had pretty much called it quits untill I could do more research.

Well I woke up today and it just hit me. I had found a great diamond, from a great store, with great customer service, and it was on my budget. So,I drove back to Donald Haack (the orginal store), put 10% down and will be picking the ring up Thursday!!!

I feel like a thousand tons is lifted off my shoulders and I'm excited again!

All I can say is this just feels right.

JT, I think that was a good decision if you wanted to buy locally. You got great service from a nice store, and even if you paid a premium for it, you know you got a good quality stone. Congratulations and please take some pictures of it when you get it!

Wonderful JT, you had such a great experience with them the first time and this is really what you wanted to do.  I'm sure they were happy to have your business as well.  Now that you've seen the "great deal" at the other store you can feel great about your purchase.  Congrats, can't wait to see the pictures!

I searched a lot on here and a few other online stores. I fully understand I paid that premium for buying local, but I think Ashley will like this better (along with me).

The diamond I'm getting is princess cut and is absolutely beautiful. It's an H SI2 and they showed me the GIA report and pointed out every inclusion under 20x. She also showed me how to read the GIA report so that I knew for myself I knew what I was getting.

If you read my earlier post you can see that I had a bad feeling about the cheap diamond from the beginning. People told me to go with my gut and I didn't. Now, I feel great. I really feel like this is right and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Thanks for everyones support!!

I just hope everything goes smooth when I go to get my money back....(I will get it back)

JT, good to hear! Two great examples of life lessons here.

Sometimes we find the things we want most when we stop looking for them.

 and

Always go with your gut.

Can't wait to see pics!

If you express it you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid... for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things....

You know this, and I know it and what foolery to be toasting an 'independent press.' We are tools, and the vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, all are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

JT, I can't imagine that they'd still be in business if they didn't honor their return policy. So I don't expect you to have a problem. But I'd recommend keeping things very positive..saying that you simply found a stone you like better elsewhere rather than beating them up over the cavity in their stone which is why the price was so cheap. Hopefully keeping things postive will make them cooperative about promptly refunding your money.

I think you made a great choice, and again, please come back and show us the ring!

When I talked to them I just said I felt like I needed to do a little me more research because and find things out on my own. He asked if I just wanted to hold on the diamond and I simply said I would rather have the money to keep in the bank until I was ready.

BTW: DO you know the names of any good independent appraisers?

JT, I don't know of any independent appraisers in our area. But honestly, when buying a certified stone from an honest fine jeweler, I don't see the need for it. You could do just what you did with the other stone and take it and let some other gemologist at a nice jewelry store check it quickly for you to be sure it matches the cert, etc., but I don't see the need to have it appraised if Donald Haack will give you an insurance valuation.  If you were buying from some mall store with an unreliable cert(other than Southpark!) , I'd recommend an appraisal because mall jewelers are notorious for having poor quality stones.

Didn't the jeweler at DH show you all the inclusions under magnification and could you see them on the plot on the cert? As long as you did that, I think you should be okay. But that's just my opinion. Others will disagree. I just feel that is what the cert is for..to verify the stone quality. And you can compare prices on the price search on this site, obviously. Or scan the cert and post it here and people will tell you if they think you should question something. You should be able to get a copy of the cert before buying the stone/ring.

Yes she did show every inclusion that was shown on the GIA report under 20x. I thought that my insurance company would want an independent appraisal, but now that I think about that it doesn't make sense.

I trust Donald Haack and I know they aren't trying to hide anything.

BTW Diamondseeker: Southpark is about an hours drive from where I live (Midland) and the lady I have been working with (Donalds Haacks daughter) lives about 10 minutes from me. I go to school in Matthews at night and I pass right by her house on the way home. In order to save me the trip she offered to bring the ring, GIA report, appraisal and a microscope home Thursday night so I can stop by on the way home from school and pick it up.

JT, that is really nice of her! Excellent service does mean a lot. I did go with an online vendor, but I didn't go with the lowest priced one either. I did go with the one who spent the most time with me and offered the most service. So I respect your decision very much.

That's right, you do not need an independent appraisal to cover the item on insurance. Just be sure you ask her to include an insurance valuation when she delivers the ring.

Thanks for the heads-up diamondseeker. I will be sure to ask her about it tomorrow.

The diamond will be set in a WG trellis/trellios setting.

I can't wait and I will try to get pictures up ASAP, but I'm leaving for vacation as soon as I pick up the ring...
