Okay... so for kicks I was looking though some of the invitations from other's weddings I've recieved... and I noticed something. Some of them include a reception card. Some of them just DON'T. No reference to the reception at all (didn't loose the cards, I'm anal about this stuff). But I know there was a reception. And on one contemporary, less formal invite, on the main flat card (Jack and Jill are getting married! Please join them...) at the bottom there is one line that says "Reception to follow". So my question is... how mandatory is the whole reception card thing? I'm planning on fairly informal invites like these, for example, and well... do I have to pony up 50 bucks for reception cards? I've conclusively decided not to make my own invites, BTW. Can't deal. More power to those who can...lol. |

I'm not sure either but I really like your invitation... kind of in between super fancy and super casual.

And super affordable, Indecisive. LOL. These are the other ones I like--- they cost a little less than those and are a more casual, I think.

are both at the same location? I'd say if they are.. then you can get away without doing it.. but I TRIED to fit it all on one card for my invites.. and it just wouldn't.. even with several different styles/wordings.. So I got the reeption cards.. and since I did my invites/rsvps/reception cards in three shades of pink.. I'm glad I did so I had the varying colors.. |

I agree ... that's what we did ... granted, our invitations for "the barn wedding" were very casual (wording, style, everything) Ours invite people to a "hitchin' & hoe-down" ... give the location and then below that say "bbq & beverages if ya stick around" Then give the web address to our "website" where people can get more info re: lodging/maps/attire etc...

I would agree, if they are at the same place, and the reception is immediately after the ceremony, then no repection card is needed, the simple line "reception to follow" sums it up perfectly. However, if they are at two different locations, or the reception will be much later so you would need to specify a time, or you wanted to add specific instructions like "adults only" or something like that, then you would need the reception card, because thats just too much info to cram on the invite. Ok, I just noticed your wedding (assuming that actually is your info) is at 10 am, so people might not know exactly what to expect, but you could probably get away with something like "lunch reception to follow" (though I'm not sure what your actual plans are). And I love the second invite, I've always loved the look of that font. The third is definitely more casual, but really pretty.

Yeah...okay that makes sense. If they are at the same place... Which they will be. And Luncheon Reception to follow is what I had in mind. I'm bumping the ceremony up to 11 am though. I think. If I can. I think I'm going to order the first three as samples and see how the card stock is. I REALLY REALLY wanted Checkerboard invites with French envelopes but I just can't justify the added $$'s. The ones above are Carlson Craft. So we'll see. Checkerboard Invites: ![]() Or ![]() Or

Gypsy, I am doing the same thing. My ceremony and reception are at the same place, and there is not a gap of time between them. I'm with you ... why spend the extra for those little cards? And I like that you are adding "luncheon," since it is earlier in the day.

Fata... I just priced out the checkboards... and if I don't need reception cards, then I can afford the Checkerboard Invites. Although... I'm still going to order the three Calson Craft samples. I love checkboard because of their card stock... it's heavy and nice... and thier designs are more my taste than William Arthur. If the Carlson craft stock is nice though... why spend the $$ on paper? These are the most affordable Checkerboard invites I like and I already have the samples -- cause I got them last time: ![]()

And if not having reception cards makes the difference then I say go for it! On a long card like that, you should have plenty of room to add a line about the reception.

Ahhh! Perspective. This is true. For each of us it's different. For me it's the flowers. I can't image not having nice flowers at my wedding. And well... a few other things. On the invites I want a nice heavy card stock, for my gown I wanted silk... things like that. But if I'm squirrling money away for anything... it's the flowers. The Checkerboard white and silver ones I posted "Delicately Adorned" I like. They might be a little too formal though. So I might get a different pattern. We'll see. What invites are you getting? Now I'm curious cause you said that for you and Jcrow they are a priority.

From what I understand, if the reception and ceremony are at the same place it's not necessary to have a separate card.

Well, as my FI and MOH would tell you, I am having a hard time "prioritizing." When it is right in front of me, everything seems SO important. It doesn't help that I have a bit of a spending problem. lol My invites won't be as awesome as Jcrow's, but I am having white cotton paper (I'm a really tactile person) with navy letterpressed ink. The invite will have a tree/branch/two birds illustration and the reply postcard a similar-looking flying bird carrying a letter. The bird w/letter will also be a tiny motif by the return address. I'd show pics, but the illustrations aren't done yet. This is just one example of how I started out being reasonable, but got lost along the way... went to the stationary store, liked a Crane's invite... read too many Martha Stewart Weddings magazines... and decided I wanted custom. Its a sickness.

1-brown border w/ green inside 2-light green grassy one- my only problem (DONT'T kill me- is that i don't care for the type right justified. it leaves way too much weird white space. but i do LOVE the green color. so fresh!) 3-second one 4-first one

Jcrow... I REALLY have to just not look at letter press and really high end invites because well, I love them. I really do. I refuse to go into stationary stores to see the books and sheets in person, cause I know that once I start touching them I'll want much nicer ones than I've budgeted for. That's why I'm doing the online and sample ordering thing. I can control what I look at and make sure it's within budget. With flowers though... I ordered my bouquet. I ordered Peonies in September. Which is just crazy and fiscally irresponsible. But I couldn't help it. They are what I wanted. And as much as I TRIED I couldn't compromise on that. So I went for it. Fortunately sanity returned before I got an all peony 15 stem hand tie... and I got peonies with orchids and roses... so that was good... but still. That's 6-8 stems of peonys.

gypsy: those latest invites are excellent! Preference 1-1 2-4 (and i like the justification) 3-3 4-2 I fell somewhere in the middle of the paper budget spectrum. to me it's like flowers -- while they are so beautiful the day of the wedding, they just get thrown away. I think that most guests ditch their invites and couldn't justify spending insane amounts of money on them. however, i wanted invitations that reflected some of our personality and the "feel" of the wedding. ETA: although our ceremony and reception were in different places, we didn't have a reception card, because the reception was held where all of our guests were staying.

LOVE those! I even saw the one with the branches (in blue) and thought that might have been nice for my wedding. But alas, no birds. Anyway, I like the draped circles (#1) the best. Then the brown-bordered one(#3), second.
