I have been engaged for three months now and have been looking for an e-ring.  I went to a local jeweler's and found an e-ring that had sapphires on the sides of the diamond that I liked.  Since then I have found an e-ring at Fay Cullen which I really really like.  I already have a diamond for the center of the stone, which came from one of my great-grandmother's rings.  It is a european cut, about 0.5 ct.  Since finding this ring I have gone around to the local jewelry shops and have not been abel to find anything close to it.  My problem is that myself and my fiance are leary about buying the setting online.  Can anyone give me their opinion of Fay Cullen or give me other websites that would have similar rings to the one at this link:  http://www.faycullen.com/art_deco_ring_settings/500/162m1ds.html

My local jeweler was also concerned about my diamond fitting in the setting from Fay Cullen.

Thank you in advance.

FC says the setting can fit a 0.55 to 0.7 ct diamond.  I have never bought any settings from them, though I have drooled over quite a lot of them.

it is beautiful. there was someone here recently who purchased from her and wasn't happy. you can read her story here. you might want to do a search here on PS, enter fay cullen into the search box to read some others experiences as well.

The jeweler was concerned because their range for what size diamond it could fit was pretty big, in his opinion.  Plus, my diamond is only 0.5, so that is just below the smallest they suggest.  I am just really weary, especially because of their return policy, that's why i'm looking for alternatives.

That's really a beautiful setting!  If you know the dimensions of your stone I would suggest calling up the folks at faycullen and see if they think it will fit.  I would try to get an answer from them in writing if they say yes so that it will be easier for you to return it.  It looks like they charge a stocking fee for returns...I'm not diggin that so much.

I like the Beverly K ring, but it is out of my price range.  We are looking to spend $1,500 or less on the e-ring.  I looked at Saturn's but didn't find much, so I'm emailing them.

Thanks!!!

Have you checked out Kirk Kara's rings?  Beautiful settings with sapphires.  My friend has his Charlotte setting and it's gorgeous.

That is a very pretty setting! But I do have to say that the old saying applies here..you get what you pay for. The Fay Cullen settings may cost less but they may not be as fine a quality as Tacori or Beverley K. But if it were me, I would only do this if I were buying the setting from a vendor who would set my stone (for example, Pearlman's). He'd for sure order the ring with the right size head and be responsible for that. I do think it would be risky for you to order a setting online that is not even the exact size for your diamond especially since they'd not be setting the stone.  But come to think of it, you'll probably need insurance on the stone before it is set, because many vendors won't insure stones they didn't sell while setting them.

Here's the Charlotte set, though my friend has a round brilliant in it.

I would be careful because I bought a setting online a few months ago (not from Fay Cullen), and I told the vendor the measurements of my stone. They told me the stone would fit, and when I received it, the stone did not fit. I called them to tell them that 3 different jewelers told me the stone wouldn't fit. They did not accommodate me like I thought they would after they had my money. They wanted me to pay the shipping, etc. to send it back to them and pay an extra $100 or something for a new head to fit the stone. I gave up and now have a useless setting.

I LOVE THAT CHARLOTTE SETTING. Oh my gosh. That is beautiful! Wish I had seen it when I was resetting my family diamond! Although it would have been out of my budget.

Here is an idea for the original poster: I was in a similar situation, after I was already married I inherited a ~ .75 OEC stone and wanted to set it with sapphires! I was on a limited budget and did not find anything antique that was the quality I wanted in the right price point. So I got a Stuller while gold 3 stone blank mounting and got beautiful ceylon sapphires for the sides. It cost about $600 total. It actually was quite a bit less than I had budgeted. The setting itself was only about $200, the rest was the sapphires. In the future I may find (or have made) a more antique setting in platinum and I will use the same sapphires. On the other hand, I may leave it exactly as it is because I love it!

Sorry to break the news, but you might want to read this thread...someone else didn't have the best experience with faycullen.  http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=49077.  There are however others here who have had good experiences with faycullen.

Ugh, I posted my story on the other thread, but it were me I wouldn't do it.

Have you checked out www.antiqueengagementrings.com? They have some cool older settings.

Lizz - that sounds tramatic! What did you end up doing with the setting?

I was just on the Stuller website and it states that they only sell to jeweler's.  Did you have a local jeweler buy it for you?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.  I went to another local jeweler today who does custom work and he is going to work on getting a quote to do the e-ring I want!!!  I'm so excited.  Thanks again!!

Larissa, I am going to use the setting someday. I will just buy a stone for it and have a new head put in that will fit the new stone.
