My 3rd anniversary is coming up in January and my DH wants me to get an upgrade. The same day I started my research on the new ring I found this forum, must be luck . I never put much interest in diamonds before, never check out jewelry stores or other's rings. Now I find myself checking out blings everywhere I go . I'm also a fan and collector of LV's and the gals here seems to also have an addiction to purses . I had a blast learning and checking out the beautiful rings here. After a month of looking I think I found something. This diamond is put on hold by me https://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-2414889.htm . My DH is pushing for a 2ct ACA that is still within our budget but I love everything about this diamond. I also fractured my original ring a 1.2 ct. with 2 kids and 1 more on the way I think a 1.6ct is more practical. Please tell what you think.

Well, my opinion is that if you can stick with I SI1 or higher and still go bigger, then why not? I don't think having small children matters as far as stone size is concerned. But I just bought a 1.63 carat stone myself, and that is just the right size for me! I wear a size 5 1/2 ring. You should be fine either way! ~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~

Having fractured a 1.2ct diamond after a mere 2 months ownership got me cold feet about owning an expensive diamond. The 2ct is an I/SI2 and significantly more expensive. Yes, having children affects diamond size believe it or not. I'm constantly cooking, cleaning and feeding wich results in getting my ring dirty and knocking it all the time. A 1.6 ct would help me feel less protective about the ring .

I honestly think you'll have exactly the same issues with a 1.6 as you would a 2.0 in regard to the stone getting dirty and knocked against things. But I really like the 1.6 size, as that is what I chose as well for my upgrade! I personally would not favor an SI2, so I like your 1.6 stone better anyway! I hope you're planning to insure the new ring...that helps take some of the worries away! ~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~

Just insure it and enjoy wearing it! And if the 2ct is the one I think it is, it's a stunner. (Don't forget that you can get a Pricescope discount if you pay by wire transfer.)

Kasmom: I think you are making a practical buying decision based on the current situation in your life, No matter what the other women think. (Man's Perspective..) I really like the stone you picked out. It has top notch optical syymetry, cut to tight proportions with minimal variances via the sarin report, and a gorgeous IS report which shows an excellent blend of blacks&reds which will provide excellent contrast. I also like the fact that you found a very nice eye-clean si-1 in the I range getting the most out of your money. It will take you further down the road till you feel the need for a future upgrade.... I know you say now, I would never need another upgrade, but never say never. And there isn't much of a jump between 1.2 to 1.6. Like the other PS' say here, the mm difference between the 1.6 and 2 isn't going to make a difference as to which has a better chance of being damaged. You can set it so there will be minimal chance of damage, and of course insure it...... I agree, go for the 2ct, insure it, wear it, enjoy it.

Maybe it's just me but I think wearing a 20K+ ring doing house chores is a bit ridiculous. WF have a great upgrade policy so maybe I'll upgrade in 5 years when the kids are all in school and I can spend my day lunching and shopping . This is not only an upgrade but also a replacement for my fractured ring (not insured) . I used to hesitate about insurance cause they always gave me a hard time when I have to claim something but this time I will insure. All I need now is for WF to email me regarding my questions about the diamond so I can make decision about the purchase. I have no experience with WF before, do I wait or do I have to call and nag them for answers?

Only you can decide if your comfortable with a larger stone. But nobody other than you is ever going to be closer than 10 inches, so I doubt it'll be a deciding factor. WF also has two ACAs in the 1.6ish range that are I VS1's, so they're good options if this one isn't to your liking.

I also don't have any unrealistic expectations. Since many PS'ers claim to have amazing eye-clean SI1 stone, I just want to ask if they consider what WF said up to their standard for eye-clean. So many people here have eye-clean SI1 or even SI2 stone so I don't think is unrealistic of me for trying to find one. I just want to know what consider eye-clean. I chose to go with SI1 for best value for the money if money's not an issue I would just order an VS1 and be done with it.
