Okay so we have dates reserved with three venues in DC for September-- the 9th or the 16th depending on the venue we pick (have appointments for last weekend in Sept. to do site visits and pick one) And well... I'm irrationally freaking because of the flowers/ color scheme. It's after labor day, so summer is over but not really fall in terms of weather and well... I'm torn. I've wanted green orchids in my arrangement for a while. But I'm thinking they are too summery-- too tropical wedding. Peony's are another flower I ADORE but also think will be too summery, and possibily too hard/expensive to get in Sept. Here is one bouquet I like a lot... is it too summer/ spring? White tulips. Hydrangeas. Orchids. Peach Roses. Can you suggest alternative color schemes? Don't want to go totally fall.

I'm having the same problem, trying to think of flowers and wedding colors for November. And I have that same bouquet photo saved on my computer! Maybe I got it from one of your old posts. Anyways, I've been wanting green orchids for a while as well and I was going to pair them with red, almost crimson, dahlias or roses. I like the peach roses in that bouquet. Also I think golden yellow roses would be beautiful for fall weddings. I'm interested in anyone else's suggestions on fall wedding flowers, but one thing that I think brings "fall" into a bouquet are those berries that are reddish/ gold colors. However, I don't think it would go with the green orchids. Maybe eucalyptus thrown in with green orchids and other flowers???

I was a part time floral designer for 10 years. College and Lawschool. But well... I mostly did funerals and holidays... when I helped with weddings it was centerpieces, alterpieces, boutineers and corsages. Never the bridal bouquet... and I never did client consulting for weddings-- funerals and holidays. So beautiful flowers are REALLY important to me. I'll be doing my own centerpieces, alterpieces, GM boutineer and corages-- but I'm going to order my bouquet, my BM's bouquet and grooms boutineer from a florist. Want to use roses because they are cheap and easy to work with for the centerpieces and 2 mom's corsages. Want to use SOME roses in the bouquets-- but not all. I would do all red... but I hate red roses. Really hate them. 10 years of working Valentine's Day at florists. FI has never bought me red roses. Ever. But here's a REALLY lovely red bouquet. Amarylis, Amazon roses (fancy-- usually ecuadorian roses) and china berries. I could deal with the red roses in the bouquet... there wouldn't be many of them-- the amarylis takes center stage... but the thought of all red roses in the centerpieces and so forth gives me hives. LOL.

Then there is pink. Never been a huge fan of pink in my home or in clothing. But I do like some pink/ mauve flowers. FI bought me Light Pink French Tulip this past Valentine's Day... and light pink oriental lily's for the one before that. But this bouquet is lovely in pink. Just lovely. I could do pink and white roses with oriental lilly's for the centerpieces with a few mini callas thrown in.

Of course there is something to be said with flower colors in summery bright hues as well.

I don't know what all of these flowers are, I think they're dahlias. But they look fallish.

Similar color scheme to the one we both like sunkist... only with more September freindly flowers... is actually quite stunning. Would translate well into affordable centerpieces too.. What do you think?

Thos Dahlia's are pretty. Really pretty. They'd look great with these ranunculus don't you think? Ooops wrong pic. This is the cake I want (different flowers)

Are ranunculus a fall flower? I was reading they are considered winter flowers. Ranunculus are pretty though. I wonder how they'd hold up in a bouquet though. Oh! And Gypsy that's a really pretty cake!

Oh. And to keep going on my green orchid obsession, here's a boutineer/corsage. See it has those berries behind it, you could add more of them to make it more "fallish".

I think some of that is green hydrangea ... no I unfortunately don't know what the other delicate green stuff is. Don't have a great memory... lol. Last time I did any type of extensive floral work was 5 years ago. These days I stick to basics and holiday arrangements. We could ask though. Darn... just lost the webiste were I found it. Yeah... no blue on the cake.... but a colored wide band ribbon with flowers that match my bouquet. I love the size and shape of it. And the proportions of the two pieces to one another. You're doing november.. so winter flowers wouldn't be a problem (don't know if they are winter flower for sure). And they are so pretty... like small bright winter peonies. I LOVE the green orchids. LOVE THEM. MMMMM.

And for your September wedding, it's so close to summer and just getting into fall, I think you have a lot of options. When I think September, I think a lot of yellow and orange. Sunflowers are pretty, I'm not a sunflower girl though. Those orange ranunculus are very tempting!

When you think about wedding and flower colors, do you ever think about how the color will look with your complextion, etc? I don't know if I'm going the extra mile in being a worry wort, or if I should just pick a color already!

Ok, now for a while I was think I wanted red and green, similar to the colors present in the green orchids with red on the tongue. So I've played a little with some of these pics. Does it look like a Christmas bouquet??

Nope... everything I'm looking at will look good in my dark hair... and the rest is going to be no where near my face. As for My BM... she's a blond with a golden olive complexion... and if something doesn't look good on her... then I'll pick champagne or black for her. But I can see how it would be a concern. I'm not having a large wedding with my colors everywhere so it's easy for me to dismiss it.

Hmm, alright, I'm glad you don't think so  My wedding is going to be the Saturday after Thanksgiving (provided we get an open time slot for the ceremony!) so I'm a little concerned about the "clashing" of holiday colors...

Gypsy. I think of September as not really being fallish at all. Still pretty hot, and summer is lingering, so I don't think you should worry about summery vs. fall flowers. I think you can still linger in the world of summer flowers-- orchids might be lovely. Especially in DC, isn't it still quite hot in September? |

Yeah... Dc is quite HOT Tybee. That's a great point. Tropical even. LOL. But the town is so... colonial. Not tropical in feel. But I ADORE the all green bouquet I just posted. Of course they wouldn't work with my budget... I'd have to double it to get all green orchid arangements and such... plus they are a pain to work with. Hmm... thinking of it. Love the green hydrangia's-- could go for those instead of the green orchids... Sunkist-- along the lines of the bouquet you photoshopped-- in terms of color combos-- is this bouquet (can't get a larger pic). http://www.hanoverpaflorist.com/showproduct.aspx?productid=1266&CategoryID=15 Oddly enough. The pink is really appealing to me. Just THAT pink bouquet. Your right Tybee it's something about that particular bouquet. Hmmm. Could get the mini callas bulk from my cousin. September is an a/c month for us up here in southern Ontario, Canada. So September counts as summer to me. I think you could swing summer flowers with no problem, especially if they were in those warm, rich tones. I think of late summer as a time of ripeness, so anything that evokes those kinds of images would be fabulous. I really wanted orange daylilies, because they are one of my favorites, but they aren't available in the spring and that's when FF wants the wedding. I think these golden callas are a real knock-out, too, if you are looking for late summer tones.  Legally cohabitated |

I wonder if an entire bouquet of those golden callas would be too much? They are so strong I wonder if they would be better balanced as an accent... But you are the florist.  Am I sitting on my head by wondering that? I know nothing about flowers, except that they are purdy and I like the vivid, striking ones.Legally cohabitated |

Ok, well just to share my final brainstorm for the night, here's what I've got. It looks like it would be pretty expensive though and I'm aiming cheap! Maybe I'd have to substitute orange roses?? I'm loving the green apples though!
