What do you guys think about lake weddings? We're in midwest Indiana and I just started to think about the option...I have been looking for vacation homes that you can rent that are right on the lake or near a lake. I think it would be really nice to rent the house for teh weekend and my fiance and her BM's could get ready and stuff there the day before and then if we wanted we could stay there on our wedding night. It's really hard to find a place that has a big backyard that's next to the lake...but we do know a lake that has a really nice peninsula (sp?) type peice of land and we were camping at this lake once and saw a wedding and it was VERY pretty because their pictures had the lake in the background and the sunset and everything. The only thing I don't like about thinking about an outdoor wedding is Indiana has CRAZY may weather and it's never predictable. So we would most definately have to have a close backup plan which is hard to think of at this time.

Where in Indiana are you? I'm in Indiana too and might be able to suggest places in my area. I'm in northern Indiana--South Bend. Other than that I think a lake wedding could be beautiful. You need an indoor or at least tent back up option for May in my area.

We're about 40 miles south of Lafayette along I-74. If you've ever been in this area you've probabyl heard of "The Beef House" if you've not heard of that particular restaurant you've probably not heard of the town haha....there is a place that we're looking into that has a big barn like building where we could have the reception and then teh wedding outside and it has a house and a pond so we could have teh wedding outside by the pond or something....but we still have to go look at the place

we could do a wedding on the beach of lake michigan or something....that would help cut costs down cause less people would wnat to travel that far...do you know of any good places that have property right on the beach like a condo or something?

Hey firstbase-- me again! I'm from southern IN--Bedford/Bloomington to be exact, and I can tell you that Lake Monroe would be a beautiful setting. I don't know for sure which place to recommend, but I've always heard good things about the Fourwinds Resort. Also, there are so many places around Monroe Cty. and Brown Cty. to get married...that are just beautiful, and cheap!!! I'm sure the Lafayette area has lots of places as well. Good Luck!

I think that's a GREAT idea!!! (I can tell you are already a dream fiance!) How many people are you inviting to the wedding? If it's a smallish ceremony, what about renting out a small lakeside B&B with a pretty backyard and maybe a gazebo? I'm sure there has got to be one or two of those in your area. I've always loved wedding ceremonies where the bride and groom are positioned inside a gazebo. If it's raining, then you could move the ceremony indoors (of course, make sure the B&B has an indoor space that can accommodate your group). That would be so charming and intimate!

well our wedding is anything but small...when we made the guest list out it was 280ish..but i managed to cut it down to around 230ish but we're probably looking at 250.....i found a bed and breakfast in Lafayette that has this AMAZING front yard and stuff but you have to promise to rent 6 rooms at $150 a pop and the yard alone is $500....and the house has an old look to it so for $150 a night i would rather my friends stay in a nicer place. BUT GOOD NEWS!!! The only reason I was looking for an alternative location besides the BEAUTIFUL church we had planned was becuase the list was too big....so my fiance talked to her mom last night and how we were wanting to look at outside places and she said she didn't want to chance and outside wedding so her mom asked her for us to e-mail her the list and she would cut out alot of people from work and stuff.....she's a supervisor and wanted to invite 30 people from her unit and all the rest of the supervisors in her work...so we'll see how far that got us down. Alittle off topic...but i just started running so i could be in better shape for when we go back to college and get our engagment pictures taken and then i'll keep running until the wedding...do you guys know how much running sucks? haha! Stupid me volunteered to run in a 5K race next weekend because my fiance's parents are incharge of it..i haven't ran further than 2 miles in my entire life!!!

Firstbase! Good for you for taking up running! It does really suck at first, but then you kind of start to get addicted to it... it's the only thing that helps clear my brain after a busy day. Good luck with all the planning. Tybee |

Firstbase...that's great that the guest list will get cut some. I do know where you are in Lafayette. I'm in South Bend. If you decide to do Lake Michigan I could probably recommend some places. Maybe you should find a small reception hall and force the guest list down to where you want it to be. You also might check into getting married on the Purdue campus. I got married the 2nd time at the University of Illinois. It was fabulous. They did the catering and the flowers very reasonably. The grounds were well kept and there were rain options.
