It basically gives you a visual assesment for the amount of light leakage found in diamonds. Many folks have found this tool very useful in their search for diamonds. Kirk

Not only did I use it to help me select a diamond, I will always be able to identify my stone by looking at it through my ideal-scope. The pattern of reflection is a pretty darn good signature. Be aware though that most jewlers will give you big time condescending looks when you break it out and try to convince you that only THEY can tell you if the cut is any good. My advice is don't listen to them! -Greg
