I bought a gorgeous ring from Osterman Jewlers.  It is almost 2 carat, a bunch or round diamonds all over.  I bought it for $2400 last october.  How much do you think i could get out of it?

$2400 or $24,000 ?

it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone.

DF, she said it was a bunch of small diamonds with a total weight of 2 cts.

Unfortunately, you won't get much reselling a ring that you bought retail. You can look on ebay and watch what similar rings sell for.

do you have a picture? diamond settings can run $2400 easy. Is the setting and the stone a total of 2 carats or is the center stone almost 2 carats? you can normally expect about 1/3 of what the ring is worth in a resale transaction..

ETA: ok, so it's got a lot of little diamonds and totals almost 2 carats? I'd still like to see a picture and you can still expect to get about 1/3 of the value...

oh i get it now
a bunch of round diamonds totalling almost 2carats.  WHEW!!
i was thinking the same thing df was... an almost 2carat center for 2400.  THAT would be scary!
at any rate, mrssalvo is right.  you can expect about 1/3 if you are lucky AND find the right buyer.
a ring is only worth as much as someone will pay for it!

best of luck to you.

i thought she meant a 2ct rb with a bunch of smaller diamonds on the setting.

I know, I know. When we see "2 cts." around here, we visualize Mara's ring! When I reread it, I understood what she meant as $2400 and 2 ct. solitaire would not work together!
