Not sure if this is even relevant to what you do....I'm *really* into natural cures and skin remedies these days... For MANY reasons, apple cider vinegar is my NEW BEST FRIEND!!! Would the wonderfully acidic properties of the vinegar be neutralized by say, coconut oil or lavender oil? (for external application on the skin)...

Recently, researchers from Mizkan, a japanese food manufacturer, reported that regular vinegar intake of 3 teaspoons (15 ml) or more per day can significantly lower the level of cholesterol in a persons blood. They found that acetic acid, the major ingredient in vinegar, is responsible for this effect. The results were presented at the 59th Annual Meeting for the Japanese Society of Nutrition and Food Science in May 2005. Maximize this benefit by taking the apple cider vinegar tonic home remedy (2 or 3 teaspoons to 8 ounces of water) and increasing the amount of fiber rich food in your diet (more fruits and vegetables) while reducing the amount of saturated and unsaturated fat. DIAPER RASH The vinegar solution can be a 50/50 mixture of ACV and pure water, a 50/50 mixture of ACV and rubbing alcohol or a solution consisting of one-third vinegar, one-third pure water, and one-third rubbing alcohol. If the ear problem persists, see a health professional. ECZEMA Even though testimonials abound throughout the net on the effectiveness of using apple cider vinegar to relieve heartburn, no scientific studies have been done to substantiate this. A recent survey, however, conducted at the Earth Clinic web site found that vinegar was the best of all the home remedies suggested to relieve heartburn or acid reflux. So to relieve occasional heartburn, try drinking the general apple cider vinegar tonic home remedy (2 or 3 teaspoons to 8 ounces of water) before each meal. JELLYFISH STINGS (Chironex Fleckeri and Chiropsalmus Quadrigatus) Reference: SINUSITIS For sinus headache, Marie Nadine Antol, in her book The Incredible Secrets of Vinegar, recommends adding an eight of a cup of ACV to a cool-air vaporizer and inhaling the infused-air directly for 5 minutes. SORE THROAT SUN BURNS ULCERS URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS VARICOSE VEINS WARTS WEIGHT LOSS YEAST INFECTION A vinegar bath, prepared by adding one cup of ACV to the bath water, can also help provide external relief. LOL!!! Nothing kinky. That would have to be waaayyy kinky- b/c of the STINK!!! And way to go Darlin Joy...(btw, that's what I call my little princess kitten Gracie) Without getting too much into my own details... .... I am blessed with great skin on the face and chest and back...the legs and arms are another story...hubby says I'm a crazy psycho..I'm sure he's partly right LOL...Well, after using vinegar on my arms during the burn, I noticed a remarkable change in my arm skin ...it is nice and shiny and firm and sooooo perfectly unbumpy and not dry...I started to look into it...(btw, much of this could be just b/c of the sun...so I"m exploring anyway)Vinegar (especially apple cider...Braggs makes a type of unrefined which doesn't smell as bad)....neutralizes the ph of the skin- and is great for everything from vericose veins, to wrinkles, to acne, to keratosis, to psoriasis, to etc etc etc.... if applied externally....many people add a few drops of other essential oils, or green tea and use as a toner....I think it can dry a little but it's main function is to balance the skin...there are also many listed benefits for internally... Baking soda is the same. It is a natural exfoliant. I believe that these are in SOOOO many beauty products that cost a fortune.... Papain (papaya) is said to be amazing for for some of these things too...in fact, expensive potions and prescription creams for different conditions contain papain....dissolves keratin and helps with many skin conditions....you can buy powder or just meat tenderizer LOL...that's what's in it (that or it's cousin Bromelain...aka pineapple enzyme) Anyhoo...I"m just all over this stuff now... BTW, coconut oil is the MOST amazing stuff on the planet. Truly. I've never experienced anything like it. I stay so smooth and soft all day...and the initial greese seems to be soaked up by the skin.... ______________________________ Stewart says: I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. I love ACV for my hair- it gets rid of buildup. mix a cup with a quart of water, dump over hair in shower. let it sit for a minute or two, rinse, shampoo and condition. you will have super soft hair. I think the infamous MUA aspirin mask is the best for exfoliation. Baking soda is good but does change the PH in a not so good way so I have heard? Anyway, put 5 uncoated plain aspirin in a shot glass and add some purified water- drop by drop until it dissolves into a paste. you don't want it too liquidy. Anyway, spread this on your face, the AHAs are so good for the skin. leave it on until it dries (it makes me sneeze sometimes!) and then rinse off, exfoliating with your fingers in a circular motion. voila, younger tighter looking skin!

The asprin mask also got a great review on makeupalley...the only thing is that when I recently went to the dr., the nurse suggested not using too much asprin even topically....Also, I was under the impression that baking soda balanced the skin's ph...but on second thought, if it helps exfoliate, that can't really be true...

Hello everyone ~ ![]() As far as Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) ... it will leave you skin smooth. It is a great ingredient to make scrubs with. One of my favorite is for Acne or oily prone skin (Teenage Daughter) ... Mix baking soda, corn meal and salt. This will help kill the bacteria, exfoliate dead skin cells and leave skin soft, not dry. I use a mixture of baking soda, dead sea salts, and oatmeal blended in a food processor. I do this once a week. I do not leave it on for very long, maybe scrub and massage my face for about 30 sec's ... then rinse. Baking Soda is wonderful in the bath, ... I am going to link one of my bath recipe threads ... there are tons of different ways to naturally care for your skin! http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=39798&forumID=18&catID=&search=1&searchstring= Enjoy!

My great-aunts and uncles, who ate wheat germ and yogurt before one could buy them in grocery stores, used to recommend apple cider vinegar for absolutely everything. They were mainly speaking to my parents, however. I never tried it.

so does ACV balance the skin or just dry it out? i actually have pretty good skin and am intrigued but the properties listed on the vinegar (esp varicose veins as i'm slowly getting a few here and there and want them gone without having to laser them), but not sure if i want to experiment...hehe. ________________________________ |

I think it acts more like a toner/balancer...especially if not at full strength. Also, I read that it is good to use the sort of unrefined vinegar...check out Bragg brand...I'm not getting fry at all after a few days. Quite the opposite. Very nice and smooth...Then again, I may have my other bff Coconut oil to that for that. I don't know what I'd do without my coconutty friend!

Hi everyone ~ ![]() Starting today, I am going to use (ACV) on my Romeo. According to many sites , the (ACV) helps balance out the ph in skin, whether it be human or dog.It states that when the skin's ph isn't balanced that is when our skin is more prone to insect bites, pimples, acne ... so I am going to try it on my dog who is very itchy this time of year due to flea bites. It's like he has an alergic reaction (according to the VET) , we have to bath him every 3 days to help keep the fleas at bay, and we give him oatmeal baths to reduce the itiching. I am going to see if the ACV helps ?balance his skin? and maybe it will relieve the itching so he doesn't find the need to scratch & bite, which leads to tender owies! ![]() For dogs or animals ... humans to ... they say to gradually add it to your drinking water. And for the doggies, after their bath, use a diluted amount as a final rinse to keep coat shinny, skin soft and helps retard insects from biting. I'll let you know if we see any differences in Romeo. I'll try it, it is sure better than having to give him an antihistimine to control the allegic reaction he sometimes gets. Take care, and thanks to Moremoremore for letting us in our her secret! ![]() Have a wonderful weekend to all!

I wonder if you could do the same with your skin? I wonder if you put a glove on an swiped a strip against your skin where you have been applying ACV, like on your left arm, and then swipe a different strip where you applied ACV mixed with a lil' Coconut oil ... and see if there is any difference? Just a thought. I am definately NOT a chemist by any means!

Hugh? ![]() But I guess that people who have horses and goats use ACV in their feed, or drinking water to help cut down on the fly bites? They even use this concoction added with 1 cup of pinesol in a sprayer to help cut down on insect's ... they say even with the added pinesol, it is still less harmful chemical wise compared to the commercial insect sprays they buy for their horses. (Who knew?) They also said that they add use it as a final rinse on the horses ... and their coats are so shiney, and it was so much cheaper than buying the "name brand" stuff. Hi Everyone ~ ![]() UPDATE! My daughter tried the vinegar on her face yesterday evening after doing her normal scrub ... she went ahead and tried it full strength (Obviously didn't consult me ).I checked her face carefully today ... and I must say ... I am very impressed! ![]() She had a huge red blemish on her nose, and a med-small on her chin. Both were red and inflamed. Today, the one on her nose is not red, and has shrunk to about 50% in size, and the one on her chin is not red, and 75% gone! Her face overall has a more softer look to it. I am so amazed! My daughter said that it did smell, but not as bad as some other medicines we have had her try in the past. Tonight she is going to do her normal scrub and do the 50/50 solution. She said by doing it this way, it probably won't smell as much. I guess we shall see what her face looks like tomorrow! Thanks Moremoremore for the secret of ACV! ![]() ![]() ![]() Have a super day!
