My ff just told me that he was going to surprise me, but on Saturday he's going to take me to Jared's to see if this one stone that we saw when we first started looking is still there and if it is, we'll get it!!! This is the many who the whole time has been telling me that I can't have anything to do with picking out the ring because it all has to be a surprise! I was definitely surprised by this! Jared's isn't my first choice, but the ff doesn't want to buy it online and he wants to finance, so out of the b&m's by us that offer financing, Jared's is definitely the one I would want him to go with. They had the nicest stones of all the "mall" type stores that I've been to. It was a while ago that we saw the stone he's talking about, but it was so pretty. It was a .6 princess cut that faced up pretty big (it looked bigger than the .75 we were comparing it to). I can't remember the exact details as I was a newbie to diamond shopping and hadn't learned about pricescope yet, but it was somewhere between g-i and vvs2-vs2. It was gorgeous  . Recently I'd started leaning more towards rounds, so we're going to look at those too .I'm so excited!!! Jared's is pretty nice! You're a lucky girl! I met a lady last month who had a very sparkly 3-stone ring -- I believe they were HOF stones. She said she got it at Jared's! I am sure you will find a BEAUTIFUL ring there! Congratulations!!!

Julian, they do have really nice stuff, they're just a bit pricier than the vendors on ps. I don't really care what it is or where it comes from as long as it's sparkley, on my finger, and from my honey . I just want us to get the best deal for the money.

I almost just told my aunt who is *OBSESSED* with diamonds that we're going to look on Saturday. I only stopped because when I asked her if she promised to keep it a secret she said no . At least she was honest. If she wouldn't tell my parents I'd tell her, but they ask me when I'm going to get engaged and married enough as it is. It's going to be hard enough to be patient and wait for ff to propose when I know we have the ring. My parents bugging me about it would make it that much harder.

Hey Robbie - I totally know what you mean about wanting to tell your aunt but not your parents! When my guy and I had "the talk" I wanted to tell everyone, but my mom has been bugging me about "when when when????" for a couple of years now so I didn't want her to go into that again. Then my dad came to visit the same day that one of the jeweler catalogs arrived in the mail. I was out running an errand so he was home by himself and had picked up the mail and sorted it!!! Umm.... can you say "blushing"???? I tried to ignore it but part of me just wanted to run him to the airport so I could open the package!!! i eventually mentioned it to my mom, who seemed to know all about it already, just as sort of a head's up, start saving up, kind of thing. She hasn't really brought it up, but I think she knows more than I do about when, so that may be why. Or not. Who knows??? And I'm thrilled you get to help pick the ring!!! I do too, but I have to wait until AFTER he proposes. I guess that will keep me from going batty knowing he has it, but then I'll have that awkward time of not having it. I can deal with that though, since it means I get to pick it out. Sum

WE BOUGHT A RING!!! Ok, we put a down payment on a ring. It's practically the same thing though  . Yesterday, after my daily job searching routine, I decided to check out some of the local non-mall jewelry stores and found one that I really liked. They were so helpful and knowledgeable and they had the perfect stone for me! It's a .93 rb K SI2 (there's only one inclusion that I can barely see sometimes and it's going to be covered by the prong when they set it). It ended up being about the same price as the .6 princess that we were going to look at at Jared's. I LOVE this stone. They even let me take it outside to look at it in different light. I really couldn't tell that it was a K at all and the size is perfect. Yay! I looked up similar stones on PS and found that the jeweler's price was very good, so I told the ff about it when he got home from work yesterday. At first he was a bit wary since the store has no financing plan (I convinced him that getting a credit card that has 0% interest for a year would be the same thing). I asked him if he thought it was too expensive and he said no, but he thought the stone was too big (TOO BIG??? Is that possible? j/k it's definitely possible), but he agreed that we should go look at the store since they seemed to have very good prices.Well, he didn't think that it looked too big on my finger when he saw it . He didn't seem too into the diamond shopping, however. I don't think that he would've even looked at it it under the microscope if I hadn't requested it and when I asked him if he wanted to see how it sparkled outside he wasn't interested. I'm sooooo glad he let me pick it out. I know that he really wants me to be happy with it, and he really doesn't seem to have the passion for shopping for it like I do (not even remotely close ).We picked out the setting (a thin wg 4-prong tiffany style with a knife edge) and put down a down payment! I'M SO EXCITED!!! The final ring should be ready late next week. I highly doubt he'll pick it up next week though since he doesn't actually have the money for it right now, and even if he gets the credit card, it probably won't get here next week. I'm ok with being surprised from here on out Sum- I would've been ok w/ him proposing w/o the ring, but he really wants to have it when he does. Now I don't know if I should tell anyone that we bought the ring though. Maybe I'll start a new thread to see what others have done. ******************************** |
