Hello ladies, I've been lurking here since a week or two before getting engaged in May, but didn't want to post before the engagement and haven't had time since due to moving to Korea the first week of June. FI and I have been engaged for a little over a month now, we're both in the Air Force and stationed in Korea. We had a bit of trouble trying to decide when to get married, since if we're married the AF will try to send us to the same base, but we also wanted to be able to do a wedding where our friends and families could celebrate with us. So we were trying to decide between doing a courthouse marriage while here, and then a reception/vow renewal when we returned to the states. But then we found out that if we get married over here they will send one of us to the other AF base in Korea, so now we're just waiting. Our tentative date is September 8, 2007 (I figured FI could remember 09-08-07!) I just say tentative because we can't book the site more than a year out, so that won't be done until September of this year. My family is from Ohio and will be able to help with a lot of the planning, but depending on where we go next we may have three months to do last minute stuff or one month. That worries me a little, since I have bought my dress, but haven't done any fittings and I'm worried that a month out won't be enough time. I'm at work right now, but I'll share pics of the dress when I get home. The other bad point to only having a month is that FI and I wanted to be the ones going to the cake testing and the food tasting and picking out the flowers and etc. Now it may have to be done through my family (which my mom LOVES, of course) but depresses FI and I a bit. I suggested waiting until spring 2008 to get married to have time to plan a proper wedding, and my mom FLIPPED OUT. She naturally wants grandkids and knows that there's no way I'll even think of it until I'm married, though she knows I'm not planning on having kids right away anyway, but she thinks it's more of a possibility after I'm married. I don't really want to push it back that far because that will be a 2 year engagement and I'd rather not live together for a while before getting married, though I had said I would live with someone if we were engaged, so it wouldn't be completely against what I'd prefer. But, that's just me in a nutshell. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts so far, and hope to be able to contribute more as I get further into the wedding planning and learn more to share. |

Nice to see you back JJ and posting! I wish you luck with all your plans and hope things are ok for you over there!
