As sort of a follow-up to the Upgraders and Resetters thread below, I was curious as to how long you would wait to save up for an upgrade or a reset. Usually people give big anniversaries- 5, 10, etc. Could you be so patient as to wait 5 or more years?? My husband has agreed for me to outright buy a bigger stone. He didn't give a set date- I just figured we'd have the money by next fall. But now I'm wondering if I should wait for our 5 year anniversary, which is oh, more than 3 years away!

ARE YOU LOOPED UP ON VINO, Lady??? Wait years for NO REASON?? I'm just kiddin' ya ... kinda! But if the agreement's already made, the minute the money was available I'd start a'shoppin'. Don't THINK diamonds are getting any cheaper (who knows?? maybe?) but you'd probably get much, much less for the money three or four years from now.

Maximize the bling by minimizing the waiting. What could be better?

Are you crazy?  Any anniversary will do, in fact any time you can afford it will do.  I upgraded at 1 year, 15 years, 19 years, and 28 years.

hehe logan girl you are crazeeee!!!

if nothing else, think about the $$ you save by not waiting. part of why we did the upgrade this year is because of the way prices are skyrocketing. even just in a few short months this diamond would have cost me more $$. in another few months i'm sure it will be even worse the way prices have been going. so i'm glad that i hustled a bit to get the diamond now rather than waiting.

I say go for it now.  Why wait for a 5 year anniversary??   I know you love to think things over and love that about you.  But get what you want now.  Seriously.  ETA:  Mara is so right, think about how much extra you'd have to spend if you do wait till the 5 year anniversary mark.  Buying it now will actually be saving you money, in the long run.

this is my *now* theory. I have been waiting and saving for over a year and just don't want to wait anymore. so, i'm on the hunt for my stone. the way prices are increasing by the time I get where I want in savings the prices will be out of reach. I'm going to go with what I can, get an upgrade policy, just in case, and just go for it.

So, I'm a big fan of gratification.   But there are lots of good reasons not to wait, which have already been mentioned (pricing, etc)!  I would go for it now, can always reupgrade later.

No time line and I am out the door shopping!  Seriously, I would be off so fast his head would spin...it may take time to get what you want so I would absolutely deal with it soon...at least start the process..what you want, how you want it set, etc...

Oh, Logan, that's so exciting!  I know you said he didn't want you to upgrade the stone so you have made major headway!  Will you buy another stone or trade this one in?  For so many of the reasons stated above I truly wouldn't wait.  Besides, he could change his mind and you'd be heartbroken.

Let the hunt begin!!!!

Do it now before you spend it on something totally silly like a kitchen remodel! Seriously though, if you have the funds and green light from DH, shop now before prices go up even higher. Can we come, too?

Grab it while the going's good!  Waiting is no fun and price hikes are even less fun!  Plus as Kristy says if you don't something else silly will eat up the cash like car repairs etc, new windows, furniture .  Yuck.  Happy shopping!

Oh I SOOOO know how you feel. I've been wrestling with this since the FIRST day I got my ring. When it got stolen I had a momentary sadness, but now I wouldn't be too sad if it NEVER returned from processing. I troll WF daily and look for new additions. I'm trying to restrain myself, but I really don't see how I'm going to last 5 years. It's like a physical need for bigger bling. Let me say that if it wasn't in a Leon setting, it would have been done 5 months ago.

I've even considered all sorts of options...i.e if I send Leon back the setting and melt it down, I wouldn't have to pay for the platinum and the diamonds...right...*sigh* I keep trying to convince myself this is plenty big, but from the very beginning it looked small, so I'm not seeing how years is going to diminish my eyesight.

This made me laugh out loud!!
Anniversary, Schmanniversary.....  After I got my e-ring in 2004, I was very happy with the diamond and didn't think it was likely I'd ever upgrade. I turned my attention to the wedding, buying our house, getting furniture, and those pesky college tuition bills!  I quit looking at pricescope for more than a year.

But since I had issues with the setting, I eventually came back to pricescope to look for help on finding a vendor to fix my ring (or maybe make a new one).  Next thing you know, there was an upgraded diamond, too!  Well, I couldn't help myself!!

I got the upgrade 2 years (almost exactly to the day) after I received the engagement ring.

And, yes, I prolly shoulda been buying new appliances.... but that can wait.  That stove gets hot and cooks food OK!  That refrigerator keeps the milk cold!

DiamondFan: Stolen. Then recovered. Fortunately. But unforunately for my upgrade dreams . I don't have it back yet, so maybe it will look bigger when it gets back. Doubt that

LoganSapphire: My boyfriend had told me a while ago that I can get a new stone, because I had convinced him to buy me something much smaller then he had planned. So we have the budget. The thing is, in our relationship, he's the SPENDER, and I'm the massive saver. I'm much more stingy and rationale with money, so it's always been up to me to make sure that we are on the right track financially. I'm not into clothes, purses, cars, etc., but I really love diamonds. It's HARD though. But seriously, if your husband is the SAVER in the relationship (or you both are) and he says yes, I would JUMP. When a spender says yes...well I  know he's not that prudent, so I have to be rationale...

Psssht!  Diamonds always come first!  You can cook on a fire made outside and keep milk in the sink, wash clothes in the bath - no need to buy appliances in my book when you can have DIAMONDS!  Only slightly kidding.... Nor did I have a microwave for years!

well i didn't get an upgrade. hubby too sentimental for that. what I bought for myself was a used 1.25 carat rock. i wear both the original ring and the larger ring.

i didn't want it until:
i got the diamond bug (around age 40. prior to age 40 diamonds did not appeal to me.)

i didn't get it until:
the house was paid for and furnished
we had a sizable chunk of spare cash floating around.

and I didn't ask, i just bought it.
