okay, so I go into the city to put a down payment on the setting. The lady says, "this is your setting, it's a size 6 but we will make it a 6.5". I looked at it and it had scratches on it. She said they can buff them out and it will look brand new. This setting will cost $875 in plat. If she had to make a new one it will cost about $1,200. I asked how old this setting was and she said 4 weeks - (who knows if that's correct). I put the $300 down payment on the ring and was driving home thinking... how many people put their finger in that ring? I know I'm nuts but I searched for a long long time for a perfect diamond then I'm going to have it put on a ring that's been passed around from hand to hand. Am I nuts? I guess I figured my girlfriend would be the only person in the world to wear that ring. So, I might have to spend the extra money because of my crazy OCD. However, I see the same setting online for $750. I assume the online stores stock up on these settings where as a small mom/pop store who makes their own just keeps a few at a time. I paid the downpayment via a check. Any thoughts on this topic? I also think I spent about $500 in gas traveling to different stores. :) It looks like this: http://www.whiteflash.com/pimg/jewelry/gi_JD0102_f.jpg but I wanted it in a 6 prong. |
