I just received an invitation to my cousin's fiancee's bridal shower. I probably will not attend because I've only met her twice and the location is in another state. However, should I send a gift? All my married friends did not have bridal showers, so I'm not sure if it's customary to give separate gifts for the bridal shower and for the wedding. Can someone who is more familiar with wedding-related etiquette answer for me? I plan on spending a lot of money on their wedding gift (I'll also be spending a lot of money on transportation and hotel for the wedding) so I would rather not. However, I will definitely send something small if it is rude to not send a gift. Thanks for reading! |

When there's a bridal shower I can't attend, I don't send a gift, but if I'm invited to a wedding, whether I attend or not I do send a gift. You could really go either way here since it's your cousin's fiancee. If you feel the need to send a gift you can, but I don't believe that etiquette necessitates that you do so for the shower.

I'm biased because my shower is 5 days away and not a single thing has been bought off my registry (most guests couldn't attend). I'd personally buy a small gift ($15-20).

you could just send a card which might be a nice way of acknowledging that you were invited but doesn't cost much.
