My friend is having her wedding shower this weekend and I'm not sure exactly what to get her. She has registered at a couple of large stores, but I live in Boston without a car and neither of them is accessible to me via the train. Since the shower is Sunday, that does not leave me much time to get her something off the registry. What could I get her that would be a good gift? I could have ordered something online but didnt think of that till now and my other friend and I didnt get the shower invites till last week...I'd like to get her something different/original, but I dont really know her taste b/c she is not a really close friend of mine (or my other friend who was invited)... Any input would be greatly appreciated! *~SP~* |

The safest thing to do would probably be to get something from one of her registries (if they are available online) and have it rush shipped to you by Friday or have it sent directly to her. I assume most online registries have gift wrapping available. If you don't know the person that well, it may best to go with something you know she wants, from the registry. You could get creative with the wrapping, such as buying several small items and putting them in some kind of cool bowl, or basket, to personalize it.

does your other friend have a car? perhaps you both could go in on a gift from the registry together and do it that way. Or a cute pair of pajamas from Victoria's secret can always be exchanged/returned for something else if she doesn't like it.

I too would either rush order something directly to you or to her from the registry (if to her, just have them put on the card 'to be opened at the shower!')...that's what the registry is for - so people who aren't sure what she would like will know exactly what she would like!! If that's just not an option, then something with a gift receipt.

Hi Sweetpea! Haven't seen you around here in a while, hope all is well If you don't go with something on the registry I think something from Victoria's Secret would be good. It can always be exchanged if it's really not her taste. There's always household staples like nice dish towels, or a pretty glass water pitcher, or maybe a neat house plant. Oh! or games, like board games or card games if they're into that stuff. Or a package for staying at home together, like a movie, popcorn, a blanket, and drinks.

Don't forget good ol' cash! I didn't frown at any of the checks that were given to me for my shower. I would prefer, and I bet most brides-to-be would too, to get a check rather than something that wasn't on my registry. The Victoria Secret gift with receipt or just a gift card from VS is also great. OR, you could order a gift online from the registry, have it shipped directly to her, and write a note inside the card that says "Your gift will be delivered directly to your home." I don't think you need to go to too much trouble with the car and all that, just for this gift. Keep it simple.

I've been in this conundrum before and just ordered on-line and got a cool card and small token-y gift for the shower itself--with a picture of what was on its way to her from the registry inside the card. Cheesy maybe, but better than flying 3,000 miles w/ a gift for me!!
