I'm new here also, and have been reading several different sites trying to straighten it all out in my head, but the data for the cut, and how to figure out if it's a good diamond is not working for me. I have several different diamonds I've found on White Flash that are what I want to spend, should I cut and paste all the info for further help?

Thanks

I think we need to start over.  You are looking for something about .85-.95 for 3K?

those are all virtual diamonds.  you can read more about that here http://journal.pricescope.com/Articles/12/1/Why-are-there-several-dealers-offering-the-exact-same-stone.aspx  and here   http://journal.pricescope.com/Articles/32/1/Getting-information--In-stock-diamonds-versus-diamonds-located-with-suppliers.aspx

stick with in house diamonds such as the ones found in 'expert selection' and you will save yourself a lot of headache.

Yes.  Is that a reasonable goal?

Thanks

I read the articles, and is it generally a matter of waiting, either for a slow vendor, or finding another diamond because the one I want has been sold already. Waiting isn't really a problem for me. I have a broken hand, and can't wear my ring yet, and maybe not for months. Or is it just unlikily that the particular diamond even exists?

S

Thanks

It's a reasonable goal.

Something like this one?  http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=864375  It comes up on the PS search as in-house, but I think that is a mistake.

Yes, that looks good. Thanks! If it's not in house, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist right? Does it  mean it might be at another vendors warehouse and might get sold before I buy it?

Thanks

Welcome, Stephannie!

In-house means the jeweler has the stone in his/her possession and can physically look at it to tell you about it and answer questions. The virtual diamonds are listed by many vendors and they may have already been sold. Those are not in-house and the jeweler would have to call it in (have it sent to them) just to look at it. It's MUCH better to limit yourself to in-house stones. I am sure people here can help you select a few good ones!

(Gee, there are a lot of us with the yellow avatars on this thread!)

virtual diamonds do exist, but without having direct access to them, you don't know for sure what the status is.  they could be out on memo or sold.  if you are interested in a virtual diamond, you would need to have a vendor locate it first.

Here are some more:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2136/

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/1902/

http://www.dscaasi.com/diamonds/diamondDetail.asp?stockNum=123-806

To get that price in that size range, you'll probably need to look at H-I-J color and SI1 clarity. Good Old Gold tells you on some of the stones if they are eye clean, which helps a lot!

What's weird is that I picked Red for my icon....

My husband is going to wig when I try to sell him on the online aspect. Besides Better Buisiness, what can I do to assure him? Are you comfortable with the sites being recommended?

Thanks

hehehehe...when i went to change mine to yellow i actually got blue first!

i understand your husbands hesitation as far as the online aspect.. i think most of us were there at one time or another.  rest assured that the reputable vendors recommended here are legitimate.  there are thousands of people that have purchased from these vendors.  often times more than once!  i have multiple purchases from wf and am very pleased with their product and service.

We've all been there, Stephannie.  I came on here in January looking for a diamond for our anniversary. Didn't know how little I knew about diamonds until I started reading here! Four months later and several jewelry store visits later, I will tell you as an honest person, that I would be 100% more sure of buying a stone from one of these vendors than I would have been from ANY of the stores I visited in person. You see, once I learned about diamonds, I found that the quality was lower and the price was higher in regular jewelry stores because MOST people are clueless when it comes to diamond quality!!! They may know a little about color and clarity but I learned here that CUT is of extreme importance! And who knows about cut? Almost no one unless they study on this site. Oh, and the Good Old Gold site has great pictures on color, cut, etc. if you go to their tutorial on the 4 C's as well.  The only stores I found with equivalent quality priced the diamonds about 30-50% higher, and I am not kidding!  I personally feel more comfortable going with a vendor from this site that has been in the jewelery business a good while and who runs an actual store. That makes me feel like they'll be there in 10-15 years if I need an upgrade or new setting or something!

Read a little about the 4 C's and then start to ask questions to narrow down the qualities you want. Be sure of your maximum buget. Sometimes you have to go up in price to get the size and quality you want, or go down in size or clarity or color to stay within a budget. You're in a great place to get help! I am so thankful to have found this site before we bought my new diamond (and I'm still looking!)! Good luck!
