Hi all,

I just tried on a few Watters bridal dresses, and wow, do I love them!

I wanted to try on this one:
http://www.watters.com/product.php?coll=brides&style=2039B

but they didn't have it in the store. I did try on the bridesmaid version, though (same basic shape), and I love it!

I did try on this one and I love one this too!! http://www.watters.com/product.php?coll=brides&showid=426&style=7049B#

OK, so now for my question. I need to get this dress FAST -- we got engaged a month ago and are getting married in September -- so I don't really have much time for alterations. They measured me in the store, and I am a perfect size 2 according to Watters charts ... like so perfect that I'm afraid I won't have any room for error (like, an extra lb. or two). I am the exact measurements on the chart. So to all you Watters brides out there, how did your dress fit? Did you feel that they fit pretty true to size? I'm afraid if I get the bigger size that I'll need too much altering done, and I just don't know if I'll have the time.

Thoughts?

Thanks!!

OMG, are you me?  That's exactly what happened to me (and my dress 2039B)!  When my lady at the bridal store took my measurements she said, "neat, you won't need many alterations" b/c they were exactly the same as the measurement for the size we ordered.  Then I freaked out for 2 months because I thought it would be too small... when I took my own measurements they weren't as small as they had supposedly been in the dress shop that day.  BUT I went in for my first fitting a week and a half ago and the dress fit just fine... probably with a little wiggle room still.  I think the Watters dresses run really really big.  I mean, I'm a couple of sizes smaller in my wedding gown than in normal clothes and that's never supposed to happen!  So I think you'll be just fine!

I totally have the same problem!  I just ordered the Watters dress 5053B, and I was a little worried - I fit perfectly into one size, and I was worried that it might be too small.  (Unfortunately, however, I do not wear a size 2!)  I would be interested in what people have to say about this.  i don't want to alter down a huge dress, but that would be better than having a dress that is too small and can't get bigger!

Oooh, LizzieC, do you have any photos of you in your dress?? I'm trying that one on tomorrow night, but so far I've only seen the photos on the Watters Web site. It was the first one I fell in love with on the site and I can't wait to see it in person!! I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the 7049 though and would definitely be happy with that one, too! The sleeves are so lovely in real life.

For the record, I'm not a 2 either -- I'm def.  more of a 4, so I was shocked that my measurements matched the size 2 on the chart. I did have a size 2 bridesmaid dress years ago, and while it did fit, I had to unzip it to yawn!! So that does worry me a bit ... I guess I'll see what the other bridal shop tomorrow recommends. The girl today did say that there's a little bit of room in the liner that could be let out if necessary, so maybe that'd be enough?

The one good thing about doing this all in such a short time frame is that I don't have the time to drive myself nuts by trying on a million dresses!

Oh and in addtion, I love the 5053B too! It's too gowny for what we're doing (outdoors in Newport, RI, on a Sunday afternoon), but I think the pickups are so gorgeous! A nice, simple dress yet not plain. Just lovely :)

Yeah, I consider myself about a 4 as well, and I'm a 0 in my Watters dress, which is why I was so nervous about it.  I was like, I've never been a 0 in my whole life!  So you should be perfectly fine in a 2.

This is my dress thread, and it has one pic of the 2039B, but all the dresses are Watters
http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=40174

These are some knottie bios that have some pics too:

http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.htm?profilename=feb05_bride

There's also a general Watters dress bio, http://www.theknot.com/co_profileview.htm?profilename=wattersdressbio

It's nice to get an idea of what they look like on real people!  The 2039B looks like a completely different dress on me than it does in the model pic!

Hope that helps!

Hah, I've seen your dress post a million times but never realized #3 was that dress! By the way, even though I didn't weigh in, yes, #3 was my vote too :)

And thanks for that knot page -- I'd stumbled upon it before but couldn't find it again for the life of me when I tried searching for it!

W&W makes so many pretty dresses ... this is by far my favorite part about wedding planning so far!!

you ladies are so lucky to fit into a perfect size!! My top was 4 waist a 6 and hips an 8!!! So I ordered the 8.  Its here and I go for my first fitting next week.  I actually ordered the BM dres 5299 for my wedding dress.
This is one of my favorite knot bios that has someone wearing it.

ellla,I had so much fun trying on dresses.  I was torn between the BM dress and the 5053b, but it just seemed to fit my vegas wedding...so enjoy finding the perfect on

msflutter- I adore your dress... I didn't realize it was a BM dress!  It's so bridal!  I can't imagine it as a BM dress.  Are you still planning on doing the red ribbons?

Yes, I am thinking of adding some red.  My current idea is to add a red sash instead of the ribbon at the empire waist and to replace the bottom row of pleated ribbon with red pleated ribbon.  I have my first fitting on Wed and cant wait to see what the alterations lady says!

Yes, it is so bridal.  But at $250 a steal, i can alter it as much as I want!

$250 -- wow!! Yes, that dress is much more bridal looking than bridesmaidy (to me at least) -- and the red would make it so unique! Can't wait to see photos of that!

Update for me: I tried on the 2039B last night and am in love -- it's THE ONE! The woman at the store did say that Watters run a little bit big, so I should probably be good in the 2 -- whew!!! So hopefully I'm just looking at a quick and easy dress shortening and maybe a simple bustle if it needs it. (Please don't let those be famous last words!)

Lizzie, what type of jewelry are you doing with this dress?

msflutter- I think the red will look so amazing!  I'm looking forward to seeing it!  Did you get your shoes yet?

ellaila- Congrats on finding the dress!  My second dress fitting is tomorrow... hopefully it'll be all finished!  Oh, and at my salon, they said they couldn't do a bustle on that dress, so you might want to double check.  My jewelry thread is
http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=44265   I still haven't decided whether or not I'm going to wear the lariat at the wedding or just at the reception.  It'll probably be a last minute decision!

My cousin is getting married in October and she picked a Watters dress. She wears a 10-12 and her dress is a 12. It fit snice with a little bit of room I think.

Three shops have now told me that Watters dresses run big, so (fingers crossed) hopefully the dress will fit me just right. As I said before, I don't have much time for alterations, so I'm pretty much going on the assumption that it'll fit me well and that I'll just need to be shortened a bit (toes crossed). :)

Lizzie, do you know why they said they couldn't bustle the dress? Would it rip the tulle? That's all I can think of ...

I didn't ask because I wasn't planning on doing a bustle anyway, but I'm sure they could come up with something.
