I got highlights yesterday and they are a gross pinkish-orange color and some of them are just pink! I made the awful mistake of trying a new salon, my aunt's idea because she wanted to get my hair done as a birthday present. I told the lady I want a light brown color, even picked it out from a selection, and it ended up being ORANGE! I went back there today to get a refund of the $110 I wasted on this crap and they gave me the number of their district person to call. What really sucks about it though is even if they do refund it, I am going to have to pay a lot to get this corrected. I'm probably going to end up being out $200 and still have a slightly screwed up color.

No, my hair wasn't colored at all before this. It was a while ago, but it had all grown out. I talked to one of my friends who is currently in cosmetology school and she said she did a number of things wrong. For one, she bleached it and then put toner on it, which is a huge no-no. Then, she didn't let the toner sit long enough on some parts (the pink), too long on others (the orange) and missed some parts all together. And its going to take them two weeks to mail me my refund. ![]() Has anyone ever had something like that happen? I just hope mine is fixable.

Yikes!! It's fixable but they really did a number on your hair. It will cost a pretty penny to get it fixed but it CAN be fixed. Also this process won't be good for your hair either. I'd demand a refund and get it fixed somewhere else!! This happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago and she was sooo upset. Hang in there, and stand firm!!! Oh and good luck!!!

i had a snafu with my current stylist last year when i was still getting to know her..my old stylist typically changed my colors fromm summer to fall a bit to make them more reddish brown for fall rather than lighter amber for summer. highlights. anyway i mentioned to my semi-new stylist (had been using her for about 6 months, aka ~3 visits) that i wanted to 'add some red in' for fall, thinking that she got what i was saying because that is how my old stylist (who she knew) would say it. but no...she bleached areas of my hair which were already highlighted and then she put a color wash in that was like some candy apple red color. i remember thinking, hmm this is taking like 2ce as long as typical and why did i not have to go under the 'dryer' to let my color sit etc. so then she's cutting my hair after it's all wet and washed and i'm like man that red is really red. i said something and she is like yeah the wash looks great. i was like what wash? so then it came out and we were both like yack! the worst part was it was right before a big family trip to go see some of greg's family and i was going to meet a whole part of the family i hadn't before. not like my hair looked HORRIBLE but it just wasn't ME and it wasn't how i typically looked. it was way too reddish candy color and it didnt have highlights really because of the wash covering things. so anyway she said it would wash out over time and it finally did but not soon enough and then the next time we did the RIGHT way and since then it's been great. she said she would fix it if i wanted but i was like i don't want to add more crap into my hair and have it potentially fall out from overtreatment...it's tolerable for a month or two. but yeah that sucks!! is there any way to just deal with it for a while or do something really mellow to it so that your hair doesn't freak and fall out from overporcessing? sorry to hear that, but i think it happens to all of us at some point in time eh?! agh! good luck gal. ________________________________ |

I know a lot of places do corrective coloring so it can be done and I assume done well and gently so as not to fry your hair, but you need to find a salon with a darn good colorist.

Xchick03- If it makes you feel any better it could be worse... I wont go into becuase it was just too weird. But I would highly recommend Bioway Pro-Pac to repair the damage that is about to be done to your hair. Once a week one minute and it really works.

I am sorry and can empathize...I hope they were VERY apologetic. I thnk they should pay for you to go to a high quality color corrector to fix it. Or you can make sure to tell everyone who did your hair!!! (look, I know accidents happen but this should not be something that goes on in a nice salon...if you did it yourself, maybe, but not in a nice salon...) when I was in high school I had bleached blonde hair. I decided with a friend to put on those celophanes by sebastian to make it shiny. I was just going to do the clear but ended up with my friend's red one. My hair turned PINK like cotton candy and looked like doll hair, fake and fried. My hair was so porous from being bleached that I had to put a brown rinse on it almost weekly, and every inch that grew I cut off, so I had to live with short hair for a long time til it all grew back, which I hated on me, and my hair had been halfway down my back. I think I cut it to my shoulders to get off a chunk of it. Since this was my whole head, not highlights, I had no choice. The brown looked dingy and weird, like a bad wig, and it took a good couple years to really fix it. I learned a big lesson that day... **************************** |

I talked to the district manager and he said they'd send me a check in the mail, but I wont get it for like two weeks. And I told him they should help pay for the damage they did, but he said there was nothing he could do. They were all just so rude, I wish I could sue them or something and get them closed before they ruin anyone else's hair. It would be different if it just happened to me, but they really screwed up my aunt's hair too and the manager did hers. I've got an appointment to go to my normal stylist Friday, so hopefully she can do something. My hair really isn't damaged right now, surprisingly. I hardly ever get it colored or even blowdry it, so it stays really healthy. The only problem I ever have is it getting oily. I know getting this fixed is probably going to cause some damage, or a lot, but Pam (the woman I usually go to) said she had some really great treatments she'd give me to make it healthy, I think it might be the same stuff you mentioned, Mat. I just hope its fixable, there is absolutely no way to live with this. I wish my camara was working so I could show you how bad it really is.

Sweetie, dont worry. It is completely fixable. I am a former stylist and I specialized in color. I love corrective color! If you go to a stylist that is good with color you should have no problem. All it sounds like is that the toner they used was the wrong color or they didnt leave it on long enough. The correction itself should not be bad at all. Your new stylist will probably just pick the correct shade of toner and when done correctly should cover the mess. Depending on how bad it is, it could be a one step or two step process. Good Luck and dont worry, I am sure it will be fixed!

Thank you, that makes me feel so much better. I have my hair in a ponytail right now and the top is bright orange and the ponytail part is blonde, brown and pink. So, to me it looks like she put way too much toner in the front and little to none in the back. And it was the wrong color.

Get your phonebook, call all the salons and see which ones do color correction. I have had several things happen to me. I went for highlights (a little all over) I came out completely lemon yellow. They hadn't even rinsed all the goop out of my hair it still felt gummy. I went and had to have it corrected. Hint, never put an ash color over very light blonde, you end up with green or grey hair.

There really isn't anyone around here that specializes in color correction, but I did get an appointment with my usual stylist for tomorrow and she's great. My best friend has been going to her for about 10 years and I started a year ago and she does the best highlights I've ever seen anywhere. And she said she'd probably be able to fix it, if not she'd find someone who could. I am really beating myself up for not going to her in the first place.

I'm sorry about your hair. I have had no experience with dying my hair, but I have friend who had a treatment done after dying her hair too many times which saved it from being fried. It was some sort of hot oil treatment, and her stylist was also able to restore her original color. Hope your hair turns out okay.

I'm sorry to hear about your disaster and how the heck do you get pink/orange color when you clearly asked for light brown? Maybe that person was fresh out of beauty school but in any case they should've given you your refund and corrected the problem for free since it was their mess up. |

The best advice I can give you is to be sure to get your hair toned regularily. After the initial colorist fixes your hair (and it'll cost a bit extra that time around) get your hair toned periodically. This will be less expensive and help keep your hair maintained between the more pricey all-over coverage.

I am surprised you actually got your money back. Anytime I have ever complained about anything to do with my hair, they want to 'fix' it, often by the same person that f*$ed it up in the first place. I say NO WAY is that person touching my hair again. I went to Mario Tricoci for a haircut several years ago. My hair was obviously crooked. They were planning to let the same guy fix it who cut it that way in the first place. I am like, you're kidding, right? The way I figure it, cutting my hair straight is the minimum I will settle for. As far as color, I have had it highlighted for years and whenever I move to a new town, I have to find someone new to do it. Again, when I let Mario Tricoci's colorists do it, I would end up with huge patches of dark hair interspersed in with my highlights. I complained. I went back three times and kept having different people try to do it. Finally, I settled on this one girl. I went to her for a few times. I kept telling her my hair was too gold. She kept putting the same color on so I complained. She said she had used the one the first time and I liked it so even thought I told her that each time after, she kept using the same stuff. Then, she acted like a big baby and got all defensive. I went elsewhere. This last time, I wanted my hair kind of red. It ended up way too red. So the guy put this color wash on it, which turned it orange. But what really ticked me off was that he charged me to do it. It wasn't the color I requested in the first place and it wasn't after the color wash. I am going to look for someone new again. Were you able to get it fixed?

I had that happen. Almost exactly. Bleach then toner. UGH! I was in DC and paid a fortune for it. Didn't ask for my money back... should have. I went to a color specialist to get in fixed. How did I find that person? I watched people's hair in a trendy spot in Dupont for an hour... when I saw a person's I liked I asked them for the information, called the salon and ask them if they were color certified. I asked for 3 people's salon info... and one was just right. Went in and had them comb through and over a color that was the as close to my normal hair color as possible. Fortunately the pink higlights were just half head. So even with the high DC prices it was an affordable fix... about 90 bucks. They also took my all one length hair and cut layers into it to get rid of the fried parts throughout. The salon was fabulous actually.. .expensive but I went there from then on and since then? Well I've learned about how to correctly highlight and color hair myself (and I have a salon here that sells be their professional products)-- I do it for my nieces... so that when I go in to get something done I know EXACTLY what they should be doing. And I'm careful about picking my colorists and stylists. Good luck. The cheapest fix is just to put one solid color over it all probably. Oh... best salon product for this mess? Purology Condition Reconsruct/ Repair in the green bottle. Will keep your hair healthy. My niece (before I took her hair over) accidentally turned her hair navy (not blue/ black... just flat navy) and we had to beach it then color it and I get her my Purerology and it kept her hair surprisingly heathy even with all that.

I cannot believe they would not fix it. I'd be so IRRITATED if I were you. I've had to go back & have my hair redone (for free of course). Sometimes my hair dresser colors it wrong, or cuts it wrong & I can always go back & have her adjust it. That sucks & I hope you are ok for now. Good luck getting it fixed, and just wear hats for now. Jeannine Divergrrl *************************** Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got.... :-P |
