Hey, I've been looking at shipping options to send my ring back to Whiteflash (to get a horseshoe sizer put in) from here in Canada but have had no luck so far. None of the big courier services (Fedex, UPS) will touch it and only have a maximum $500 of insurance coverage anyways for Canada-US packages. I had talked with Purolator (a Canadian-based courier) and originally had gotten a quote of about $250, but apparently they didn't know I was sending jewelry because I just called for a new quote (I wanted more coverage) and they say it's illegal to send jewelry to the US with a courier!! I'm sure there are Canadians here who've had to send things back to vendors in the US. How did you go about it? The only thing I can think of is taking it to a local jewelry store and paying them to ship it for me (apparently it's legal to send it from store to store across the border?!?). Please help

I would ask WF. Here in the states, they only accept Registered Mail. They will tell you how and what type they accept.

I asked them and they said they weren't sure. The only thing they could think of was to get 3rd party insurance on it (through an insurance company) but they said it would be super expensive. There has to be a better way... Thanks for the response though Jazmine, and by the way you were my inspiration for the horseshoe sizer!

Hey, she didn't have a whiteflash ring but I am pretty sure allycat had to send her ring back for sizing to NY, you might want to search through her old post and see if she explains how she did it. -Dave

Looks like Allycat crossed the border and mailed it from inside the US... I will actually be in LA for a few hours (just a stopover) in early June but it's from 8pm to 1am, so I don't know if the USPS office would be open that late on a Thursday. I'll probably change my flight and try to get there in the afternoon. I guess having to wait a month with the ring spinning on my fiancee's finger isn't the worst scenario. Thanks so much for the help!!

ideal_emerald, Glad I could help, good luck with finding a new flight. If you can't maybe wherever your final destination is has more shipping options available as well. -Dave

Hmm... apparently that plan won't do. The spinning is driving her crazy so we're going to look into buying 3rd party insurance ($$$) since there appears to be no other way to get the thing back to Wf. It's unbelievable to me that no shipping companies will take this thing for me. That's their JOB!! ![]() Sorry, just upset because of the hockey games.... I'll be fine.

Where in Canada are you from? Are you within driving distance of the boarder? What about any friends or co-workers you trust that could possibly ship it for you. Oh, and what about getting it sized locally, do you not want to do this becuase of warranty issues? last but not least I could be wrong but I heard somewhere about temporary plastic sizing things that could hold her over until you can get the ring to white flash. -Dave

Here is a link to one of the threads about em but I am sure if you look around a little you can find a more informative one: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=26961&forumID=3&catID=&search=1&searchstring= maybe it could be an inexpensive way to hold her over until you can get to the states to ship it

Okay, for 1 month this is what I suggest. Go to your local Claire's jewelry store (or something similar if you don't have them up there) and get some ring snuggies.I think Walmart has them also. I had to get some this weekend as I was across the country where the temperature is much colder, hence my ring was way too big. You can't even tell you are wearing them and they will do for 1 month. http://www.ringsnuggies.com/faq.html

Edmonton, Alberta, which is about 7 hours from the border I think. No friends or coworkers are going down to the US anytime soon. Yeah we don't want local because we don't know any local jewelers so we don't really trust them, plus apparently the horseshoe sizer isn't a very common procedure so we'd like Wf to do it. And yes there's the warranty as well. I'll check out the temporary sizing things if the 3rd party insurance is astronomical in cost. And maybe a local store will ship it out for me, but that's doubtful. Thanks for the suggestions though familystone, it's very much appreciated.

Oops, bit late on that post. Thanks for the new info, I'll run the snuggies idea by her and figure something out. At least we have a few options now. Thanks again!
