What did you gals eat on your wedding day? I assume you didn't wait until your reception to eat?

I would nibble protein to keep me going, but just a bit at a time...you WILL NOT end up eating at your reception unless you really make an effort to...you get so caught up and are busy greeting all your guests etc...the time flies and you realize you have not eaten! If you want to eat, I would ask maid of honor or someone to gently remind you to come to the table and that way you can at least take a couple bites!

it depends on your wedding...since ours was destination, i had plenty of time to eat and mingle and stuff esp since the guest list was smaller, plus i love food...and was dying to try everything. i didn't eat MUCH but i definitely ate. the day of i was planning to just have protein so i wouldn't get bloaty belly from carbs, but then some of my maids and girlfriends went over to the restaurant on the plantation (in hawaii) so i got ahi poke (ahi tuna tartare basically but more choppy) and FRENCH FRIES which were my weakness. hehehe. ________________________________ |

Mara, not to thread jack but where in Hawaii did you go? Being from the West coast originally I LOVE Hawaii...we used to stay at the Mauna Lani on the Big Island and the Four Seasons Wailea on Maui...do not get there now that we live in the East...

I was so busy with the guests I only ate my dinner and a bite or two of cake. When we got to the hotel afterwards I was soooo hungry. We ordered room service!! When we got home everyone was raving about the food. I wish they had passed more my way!! Eat whatever you like before, protien sounds good.

DF we got married in Kauai and it was the best decision ever. We can't wait to return, hoping for next year!!

my wedding coordinator will go to the kitchen during the reception and grab extra food for my future hubby and i and put it honeymoon suite for us. that way we'll be able to enjoy the food again later if we miss it.

I had coordinated a continental breakfast at the salon for myself, my BMs and my mom and MIL. They set up bagels, spreads, fruits, etc around 9 am. Honestly I was so preoccupied that I wasn't even hungry and it didnt dawn on me that I would not eat again until 630 pm! I was hungry so in hindsight I would have brought a granola bar or something to munch in between. At the reception I DID eat, but not much. I was too excited! Afterwards DH and I had a suite and we ordered a pizza and beer, we were SO hungry!
My favorite color is sparkle!!! |

Some of my "other mothers" (my mom's best friends) held a breakfast the morning of our wedding for all of the out of town guests and the bridal party. I think i had scrambled eggs and a piece or two of bacon and LOTS of water and OJ! I was actually able to eat (inhale was more like it) dinner at the reception, but was very rushed. We also had leftover or d'oeuvres packed up for us to take to our hotel... I cant recommend it enough... we were both SO hungry and never got a chance to try them!!! ETA: Another nice thing... we had water and crackers to nibble on while waiting for the ceremony to start (we were at the church early to take pics before the ceremony). At a friends wedding 3 weeks later I ran around raiding trying to find something for a fellow BM whose blood sugar had suddenly dropped, so you never know what will happen!

lord, i ate everything on my wedding day! mom and i had a private breakfast before the girls arrived for hair and makeup...i ate a huge plate of french toast and bacon. then we had fruit, cheese and cracker platters for getting ready. i never made it to the cocktail hour, but i did eat my entire dinner...all 5 courses! i wasn't shy about eating ;) and because it was a small wedding, i still had time to talk with each guest :D

Hardly anything, and not on purpose. We hit the ground running getting manicures, makeup, hair, etc so I recall one of the BMs going across the street to a market and getting us crackers and grapes. I felt like I was going to puke (not out of fear, but more the spectacle that it was going to be all day, with you at the center of it!) so I couldn't eat much. Even then at the reception, people kept interrupting us so I didn't really eat most of the food either.

K-we also did not eat and had to have room service, got in the room at 2:30, had to be up at 6:30 for a flight to France and so we just stayed up and ate, I was worried we would oversleep if we tried to sleep, so we fought to stay up and left all the room lights on. I got married at the most gorgeous hotel in LA (I am biased0 and the food there is incredible, people go there just to eat, and we had none of the wedding food. Boo. At my son's bar mitzvah, same thing happened. People still rave about the food to me 6 months later and I never got a bite! **************************** |

I pretty much ate nothing! I had breakfast with my parents and sister which consisted of a croissant and a cup of tea. That was it. During my cocktail hour, I literally did not touch a scrap of food and it all looked so yummy. At the reception, I had a bite of salad, 2 bites of steak and a spoonful of dessert. I didn't even eat the cake!! And I only had a couple of sips of champagne. It wasn't because I was trying to not eat, I was just way too excited and constantly on the go. I would love to crash a wedding at my reception place because everyone was RAVING about how fabulous the food was and I didn't even get to enjoy it! I also didn't sleep the night before or the night of my wedding. It's just way too exciting!

it's a great idea to have the coordinator or a maid of honor or a parents put some food in your room for after the party is over, or place an order with room service to be delivered when you get to the room or whatever....!! but i gotta say i smiled at the idea of being so hungry that you guys order something like pizza and beer on your wedding night, that is a totally cool memory!!! and so non-weddingy. hehee.

At our post-DW reception back here in the state, I for one, will be stuffing my little bridal face to my hearts piggish content. Too much thought goes into the food for me to not enjoy it! And I'd rather have people commenting on how much I ate, rather than (as some mean-spirited people are known to do) comment on the fact that I haven't touched anything and do you wonder if she's anorexic? Oink! |

The wedding coordinator has offered to provide "finger sandwiches" (whatever those are) and drinks for the bridal party as we get dressed. I'm usually and excellent eater, but I can imagine getting all caught up in the moment and forgetting to eat! I am one of those people who FREAKS out when their blood sugar drops, so I need to be careful. Oh I can't wait!!! Tybee |

I had coffee and a breakfast burrito in the morning. At the reception my awesome awesome coordinator (a friend from out of state) made sure we were first to eat so that we could eat our food before any of the reception events began.  We also had lots of cake, as there was no way I was gonna miss out on our yummy cake (after we smeared each other with it first, of course!) hehe.

For my first wedding, we had a very fancy brunch reception in a large mansion in my hometown. We basically recreated their Sunday brunch just for our guests. But, I didn't eat any of it. My then-husband and I went to Wendy's on our wedding night. How pathetic is that? For my 2nd wedding, one of my BM's was very insistent that I eat something. She brought food she knew I'd like and made sure I ate some. I did actually have a few bites of food at my reception but only because I had twisted my ankle 4 days before the wedding and could barely walk. I sat and people came to me instead of me going to tables. But at least I got to eat.

P.S. I also had hash browns with my breakfast burrito. I get cranky when I get hungry so I had to ensure that I fueled up for the long day ahead of me! I would highly encourage you not to wait until the reception to eat something. A girl needs her energy!!!

I would totally recommend having a good hearty breakfast. The rest of the day might fly by and with all the excitement you might forget to eat. I had turkey sausage, poached eggs and an english muffin. I also ordered finger sandwiches, fruit and waters, sodas, etc. for everyone while we were getting ready. With 5 bridesmaids, 2 moms and hair and makeup people hanging out for a few hours, it was great to having something to nibble on. I managed to eat some dinner, no cake and I so wish I had sampled our cocktail hour food~

Bagels and coffee for breakfast with my 'maids. Had lunch with them at our hotel restaurant...some kind of sandwich-y thing, I believe. By this time, I wasn't hungry and was just running on adrenaline. Dinner -- at the reception I ate probably 1 bite of everything on my plate...I was too busy doing laps around the room with my new hubby. I don't even remember eating any wedding cake! (aside from 1 bite from the cake-cutting)

CareBear- I'm so glad that you asked this ... I was wondering about that myself. I'll prob. have something light, just enough that I don't pass out! Then yummy Southwestern food at our lunch reception.  I'm a little bitter about the fact that I'm not going to get to really eat "Rehearsal" Dinner (in quotes, b/c we're not rehearsing) the night before the wedding... It's a 5 course Italian dinner! With tiramisu! And I'm going to be stuck eating salad or some crap b/c I've gotta be in a teeny white dress the next day!  Otherwise I'll get the salt/carb bloat thing going on, and that won't be so cute. Actually, I'm really bitter about that.. I'm a foodie!

What ever you do make sure you eat something! I was to busy/excited/nervous/ to eat more than a few bites of fruit before the wedding and by the time the wedding was over I was ready to faint. I ended up scarfing down my 9 month old nieces bag of dry cherrios in the back of the church before we could take pictures.  Also, The idea of having something in the room when you get to the hotel was a must. We were lucky that the bridal suite came with complementary snacks. We were both starving. And if all else fails, there is nothing wrong with drive thru.

DH and I actually went out to breakfast together the morning of our wedding day. It was so sweet, he came and picked me up in my PJs, we drove to a scenic outlook just 2 minutes away and he had brought Noah's bagels and some juice- I love Noah's. It was great just to have some time together alone before all the hectic-ness started. I know some ppl don't want to see their FI before the ceremony, bad luck and all that, but I personally recommend it highly!!! For lunch I had my friend/coordinator organize lunch for all the BM - she ended up making these fantastic pesto chicken sandwiches and chinese chicken salad and fruit salad. It was delicious and we all had a full stomach. Even with both breakfast and lunch, by the time 5PM rolled around after the ceremony and pictures, I was sooooo wiped out - I think partly from dehydration, bc as soon as I drank some soda and ate some appetizers I was much better - so remember to have a BM bring around a bottle of water for you! I managed to eat a decent amount of appetizers and some dinner also, but was hungry at the end of the nite - our caterer had promised us a package of food for the hotel but it never happened... luckily our hotel had laid out some chocolate dipped strawberries for us! yum! I'm one of those ppl that doesn't do well at all if I don't get food/water thru the day, so I made sure I was taken care of for the most part... and I highly recommend bringing aroudn some snacks and water for the whole wedding party!

This thread really depresses me!! I can't imagine paying $75 per plate for everyone to eat but me!! You really can't eat while everyone else is eating ?

I'm with you, Indecisive. After all the dieting I'm doing for this wedding, I can't wait to stuff my face with all of the hors d'ouevers (I never spell that right) that we've paid for! I fully intend to eat, drink and be merry. We plan to eat our way around the Caribbean, starting with our wedding reception. Good thing cruise ships are all inclusive - we're getting our money's worth!!

My MOH and I stayed at my hotel the night before, and we had breakfast in their restaurant the next a.m. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and juice. Afterward, we went to hair appointment and then back to the room. My other friends who came to help us get ready brought a few snacks and some much needed water! The last thing I wanted was to feel jittery or faint during the ceremony/reception from not having eaten. _____________________ |

I made a point to eat that day cause I also start to freak out if my blood sugar drops too much. I started the day with an early lunch with the BM's and we arranged for an early dinner/snack from Subway for the entire bridal party and family who had to be there early for formal photos. Then, wedding at 7, and at the reception our caterer made us plates and pushed them into our hands (Yay!).
