I looked through all the settings on BN a few months ago and didn't like any of them "as-is"... there were a few I would have liked slightly modified, but nothing "off the rack". Then I ran into this one and fell in love. I'm not totally sold on the BN route though... I'd been thinking it would end up being custom but that's probably because I've yet to see a setting that I so completely swooned over instantly. Has anybody seen anything like this elsewhere? If I didn't go the BN route, would it have to be custom? I have a whole folder full of idea photos, but this is the first one where I wouldn't change anything. options please? thanks!

If you love it as it is I would say to go for it! Going custom is not always cheaper and you dont ever know *exactly* what you are going to end up with. With BN I am sure the price must be reasonable. I say go for it. You sound in love!

I'm thinking that BN is a bit overpriced, but then, if custom cost more, that wouldn't really help, eh? This setting is $1500 in platinum, so that's not so bad, but I, of course, dropped a 1.29 ct. oval in it, you know, just to see.... and that totaled the ring at $7,202, which still isn't so bad... it's just a bit of sticker shock! I'm new at this!

I'm new at this! I know, it is overwhelming at first when you start to figure out how much things cost! Another option is to buy just the setting from them and to buy the diamond elsewhere and have them set it. Just a thought. $1500 for platinum and the side diamonds is not bad at all. I dont know for sure, but I dont know if going custom would be cheaper but you could always get quotes and find out!

Unfortunately, I don't think BN sells their settings separately...

Alas, they don't... directly from their "product policy": "Our settings are available for purchase only when combined with the purchase of a diamond. Blank or empty Blue Nile settings are not available for individual purchase." Thanks to PS, I've seen so many different places to look for diamonds, that it's almost a letdown to pick it that way, but in the end, the ring will be on my finger. I'm sure my BF would love to get frequent flier miles from an e-ring purchase... (American does this) still, if anybody has seen this elsewhere, please post! Thanks!

Well depends..... do you want a plain shank? strictly marquise side diamonds or that shape on the side? I have a whole folder of "leaf mitifs" I'll post some for you. http://www.markschneiderdesign.com/bridal-group8-3.html ![]()

OOOOOOOO I may have found a winner. I didn't read all the details but you can buy this without the diamond and "customize it" from what the description says. And I cannot see any differences between it and the BN setting. Oh I am hoping for you now! http://www.novelldesignstudio.com/cgi-bin/display/search3.cgi?id=280&c=Engagement+Rings&s=Semi-Mount+(Side+Stones)&s2=White+Metal&f=&nhs=6&back=c;Engagement+Rings;;s;Semi-Mount+(Side+Stones);;s2;White+Metal;;nhs;6;;f; ![]()

Hehehe I have organized folders and one is for leaf motif rings, cause I think those side marquise look like leaves. I knew I had that very same one from BN in there so I just saw what else I had in there and what do you know the exact same one from Novell hehehehe. Just lucky I guess! So now you have to keep us updated on what you decide sum!

I really like that ring. I've seen a fair number of vintage and reproduction rings with that kind of look, but this is the first "modern" setting I've seen and liked. Very nice! *** |

You're right... it's not an uncommon thing in repro/vintage rings... maybe that's why I like it so much... I originally wanted an antique setting, but well, my fingers are sausages so I realized it would probably have to be new! I'm pretty sold on it!

So, I take it this means you get to choose the setting? Excellent! Speaking of large fingers, I hated going into B&M jewelry stores to look at rings because most of the rings on display would only fit on my pinky. However, some of the replicas are available in whatever size, such as the ones at Fay Cullen.

I flat out demanded that I get to pick it! He was kind of surprised, but he's agreed to it, understands that whole thing about me wearing it for the rest of my life... plus I've helped pick all the jewelry he's given me, he admits he wouldn't know what I'd like without my help. We were chatting about it one night at dinner and he was teasing me about one of our friend's cheesy proposal (at Outback steakhouse) and I said "Please don't do it in a restaurant..." which surprised him, then I said "Oh, and I want to pick my ring!" Luckily he still wants to marry me after all my "demands"! He didn't really understand how the proposal could be a surprise if I picked the ring so we decided that he could propose without the ring and we would pick it together later, but since I CAN'T STAND waiting, I decided to get an idea of what I wanted in the meantime. Who knows, maybe if I show it to him now, he'll actually have it for the proposal, but he's enjoying torturing me. I sent it to him but he said he wouldn't give me an answer on it! He thinks this is fun. HA! ![]() I'm not looking forward to trying things on that don't fit... it's not fair that they don't stock a larger range of sizes!

I bought my e-ring, one wedding band and one anniversary band from Blue Nile and would do it again :) They were great to work with and much less than the stores we had gone too. $1500 for a platinum setting with diamond side stones is not unreasonable at all! My friend is looking at a platinum with 2 half moon side stones (.25ct each) from Jareds and just the setting is $3k.

The setting is a great price, but they don't have an upgrade policy, and I'll probably want to do that at some point, but if what we find elsewhere isn't a big savings, we'll probably go with them, if only for the airline miles. I have a necklace from Blue Nile that I love, so my BF isn't averse to online diamond buying, and the experience he had with them was good. Of course, that time, Fed Ex left the package at the door to his apartment when he wasn't home and he was glad to find it still there when he arrived... Hopefully they handle larger purchases better!?! We have a box at the UPS store these days though... our front door is in a "transitional" neighborhood.

are you buying the stone through BN? i thought i recalled that they do not sell empty settings without their stones? maybe not. just thought i'd throw it out there, in case it's true and you did not know.

They definitely don't sell empty settings, but ILoveSparkles found the setting manufacturer and it is available through other channels! I was thrilled to hear that. If we go through Blue Nile, we'd have to get the whole thing from them, but if we can get it through a jeweler that has an upgrade policy, I'd probably be happier... as long as the price wasn't that different. If the jeweler puts a premium on the setting, we'd probably just go the BN route. I'm just glad to see that I don't HAVE to buy it from them to get that exact setting!

oh yeah after i posted that i saw the other setting, der!!! i'd vote for hand picking your own stone with an upgrade policy and then getting the setting. hopefully the markup won't be too high, also see if the jeweler you choose to source the stone through can get the setting, you may get a better deal that way. good luck! ________________________________ |
