Since I'm trying to find a ring that would look best on my finger, I'd kind of like to go into a store to try them on the with the eternity band that I'll be using for my w-ring.  Any recommendations as to where I should go?

I keep going to different jewelry stores but no one place seems to have very many rings and I'd really love to find somewhere that has a bunch that I can try on.  I don't really care about quality since I already have a diamond that I'll likely have set by another jeweler.  Ideas?

(btw - I'm in Orange County, CA)

Thanks!

Hi Jossy, I'm in Orange County too. I'd suggest going to a Robbins Bros. They have tons of settings. I'm not sure exactly where one is, is it Mission Viego? or Laguna Niguel? Look on their website.

I've been trying on rings this week too. I went to South Coast and visited 3 jewelers there and I wasn't *wowed* by anything yet... Yesterday I went to Liberty Diamonds in Irvine. It's in a little warehouse, they make jewelry there, they were OK. I already have a diamond too, and they started to talk it down and that didn't impress me at all.

Where have you been already?

Sunkist, thanks for the recommendations!  I've checked out a number of the jewelers at Fashion Island and I wasn't impressed by the selection.  I was planning to go over the South Coast this weekend and I'll check out Robbins Bros. instead.  Thanks again!

Kaleigh, I understand that there's a Bailey Banks and Biddle at South Coast so I'll check them out - thanks!

I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks!

There's Nathan Alan, BBB, Cartier, Tiffany, BlackStarr&Frost...anything else I'm missing at South Coast?  Just missing a HW.

I would think the mall at South Coast is the best place...maybe not all in one store per say but a lot to choose from...

Tiffany's is always a good choice to narrow down what you really want.  They have so many styles and different rings to choose from.  Bailey Banks and Biddle is good too.

hey everyone - thanks for the recommendations.  I went to south coast last night and found a couple of settings I really liked.

One was this Vera Wang setting in platinum at BB&B.

And another I liked was at nathan alan - it was a cathedral setting with a basket under the diamond that was micropave.  There was also micropave on the part of the shank that is just below the diamond, which was really pretty.  I liked that when you looked down on the stone you couldn't see any of the embellishment but then when you looked at it from the side it have such pretty details.  Had anyone seen this ring anywhere else?

Both rings sat flush against the eternity band that I'll be using as my w-ring which is what I'm looking for.

I hope to check out Liberty Diamonds and Robbins bros soon.  Thanks again for the guidance!!

Jossy,

I think I tried on that same Vera Wang ring last weekend there at BBB! Who helped you? Was it a guy named Michael? I didn't go to Nathan Allan (I couldn't find it...) and I can't perfectly imagine the setting you're talking about, but I love the style of looking plain and classic from the top, but beautiful detail on the sides! That's what I've been looking for as well I'm so glad you had a fun time trying on rings! Liberty Diamonds was nice, I would buy there over one of the BM stores. They'll be much lower in cost. They have pieces that they make there in the office and they even have someone's dog there who is so cute and he walks around the store! Also, they can make anything you want custom, if you're interested in that. Have fun and thanks for comming back and sharing

sunkist,

How funny that you tried the same exact ring!  I was helped by a woman by the name of Pamela at BB&B.  She was very nice.

Definitely go back and check out Nathan Alan because they had some very nice settings.  I wish they had pictures of them on line... If I find a picture of one like the one I saw there elsewhere, I'll post it.  I've kind of doctored an image to give you a better idea of what it looked like.  Imagine that this ring did not have any embellishment on the shank except on the part that I have drawn in under the basket and on the basket itself.  I hope that gives you a better idea.

I'll let you know what I think of Liberty when I get the chance to check them out.

Thanks for the response!
J

Ooo! It sounds beautiful Jossy! Hmmm, maybe I will go to Nathan Allan tomorrow I think I have already chosen my setting, and it's in New York~! But hey I can always try on more just in case, right?

So, did you say that you are just getting ideas about settings and someone else will make one for you? Or did I miss understand.

We got my diamond from Liberty Diamonds and they set my diamond in a setting bought elsewhere...they were top-notch with my rings and I now will make the trip back to them for ongoing inspections and rhodium plates (when needed)...I won't let anyone else touch my rings!

Sunkist, you did not misunderstand - my original plan was to have something designed but if I find a setting that is already made that I really like then I may just go with it.  The problem is that I will probably decide to have the stone bezel set (it's an OEC) but I have a feeling that the I'll likely find a prong setting that I really like so I'll need to have someone create a bezel setting using the ring with a prong setting as a guide... we'll see.

what does the setting you've found in NY look like?  I'm from Manhattan and will be there next week for work - any recommendations regarding places to look there?

AChiOAlumna, thansk for your thoughts on Liberty!

Jossy, have fun in NY! I found a few threads full of places to look in NY.

If you were spending the day in NYC

Diamond ring shopping in NYC

Where to try on rings in NYC?

Also your idea of turning a prong setting into a bezel reminds me of Chrono's new ring! Picture is attached below. I think it's gorgeous! And it's an OEC too. Chrono's Link
The ring I really want to go with is at Lockes in NY. If you've spent time here on PS you've probably seen Matatora's new ring and that's the setting I want! Here's a LINK to that too. Sorry this post has so many links but hopefully it helps!
