After months of dithering (and acquiring a few new stones) I finally bit the bullet and decided on what to do next. I'm going to set my oval yellowish-green chrysoberyl in a 5 stone ring. The side stones will be pink tourmalines and diamonds. I've okayed the rendering and it's been sent off for the wax to be made. The colors in the rendering are way, way brighter and more intense than the actual stones. The picture of all the stones is more accurate than the rendering but that's not saying much.

The rendering. For casting/finishing purposes, bezels and prongs are bigger than they'll end up being.

The stones. The pink tourmaline is not so raspberry looking as it is in this photo. The chrysoberyl is fairly close though.

Eventually I will have to decide if I want to leave it plain or have it engraved and/or millgrained. Is there any way to photoshop engraving/millgraining onto that rendering pic?

Oh and this is being done by Bostonian Jewelers.

Wow~!  Now that is going to be one very beautiful ring.  I love the design!  I vote against millgraining, I think it would detract.  Maybe some engraving . . . the stones are so pretty!

What a great project!  I love the more muted colors of the stones!  Yum!

(I wonder if Irina could photoshop some millegraining for you?".....I think maybe I'd like it).

Kismet, that is such a beautiful design putting those stones together, both in terms of colours and in terms of shapes. It is going to be gorgeous! Please post pictures when you get it!

I wish you well,

Bridget

Thanks! I am rather excited to see how it comes out. Alex at Bostonian said the whole process takes about three weeks so we'll see accurate that turns out to be. :)

The design was taken, more or less, from an antique ring I had seen. I rather surprised myself when I ended up chosing the pink tourmaline because when I went in there I thought I wanted the marquise stones to be the same color as the center.

Pink and green - my two favorite colors!!!  I love the bezel-set side sides.  Keep us posted.

There have been a few developments in my continuing ring saga. I spoke with the jewelers yesterday and they found a replacement stone for the faux chrysoberyl which they say is an almost exact color match and which they are giving to me at no charge. I thought that was extraordinarily nice of them. They also didn't charge me for the recut work on the fake. So Bostonian Jewelers gets a big shout out for being extra nice to work with.

Now the bad news. I'm too busy at work to take time off to actually go in and get it so I won't see the ring until Saturday. I'm going to leave the ring plain for now and consider the engraving/millgraining issue as I wear it for a while.

I (finally) picked up my ring on Saturday and I'm rather pleased with it. I decided to wear it for a while to see if I want it millgrained or engraved or keep it plain. I'm also pondering if they can take down the bezel around the tourmaline a bit and pare down the knife edge band as it sticks out a bit more than I'm used to. It's not uncomfortable per se but I certainly know that it's there.

The weekend was so dark and cloudy that I was only able to get one decent-ish photo but one is better than none, eh?

It was still sort of sunny out when I got home from work so I took a few more pictures (please excuse the ratty fingernails.) I think I'm actually leaning towards millgraining the bezels. Opinions?

Thanks for the extra pictures, your ring turned out great!  I could go either way on the milgrain.  I think will look great either way.  Maybe someone could do a photoshop rendition for you to see the difference.  If you do go the milgrain route, I would keep it fine and only milgrain the inner edge.
