With 17 days to go until the estimated arrival of our first child, I am sad to say that my swollen "Hamburger Helper" hands as my husband so affectionately likes to call them, can no longer accommodate my rings and now they are just sitting in their box...lonely...waiting for me to fit into them again.

I had a friend whose eternity ering and wedding bands had to be cut off for this reason, so I'm not taking any chances. I'll just sit here, looking like an unwed pregnant chick, and wait for our little girl to arrive!!!

Just wanted to say hello as well. Hope all is well with everyone!

If I had a MM ring, I couldn't stand to be without it. Have you thought about stringing it on a chain and wearing about your neck?

oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

awww heart prongs, you poor dear!!

at least it's only 17 days out!! not too bad.

i was thinking if we ever had a kid i would get a fakey mcfakerton big blingy asscher eternity ring or something just for that purpose, might as well wear something fun and different for the few months that i would have hamburger helper hands. hhehe.

Awww, heart prongs, hang in there.  I couldn't wear my rings when I was in the final stages of pregnancy either. I bought a cheapo wedding band so I'd look married.  I had to have something.  I was really young when I had my kids and didn't want to look like an unwed mother.  So silly of me but back then that's how I felt, hehe.

My friend who is pregnant did exactly what Mara was thinking.  Her set no longer fit so she bought a faux wedding set.  She felt like people were eye balling her assuming she was having a child out of wedlock  (Like it's anyones business even if she was ).

exactly what I did.  I couldn't stand to not wear a ring and ofcourse I really didn't want to walk around and having old ladies stare at me while shopping (I shopped alot to get out of the house at the end) thinking I was an unwed mother (for some reason that really bothered me ).
Mara's right though...at least its only 17 days.  My hands were so swollen with my first that I was months out...thus my purchase of nice looking fake LOL

So sad it has to sit in a box, but better than being cut off!  I too would buy a huge old fakey mcfakerton ring and wear it everywhere till the real ones fit again!

I think it's great you made it through most of the pregnancy with your rings able to fit! My friend had to take hers off months before her due date. I've already given this some thought even though I'm only 12 weeks. I don't think I'll want to wear a fake set. I was thinking about maybe getting a nice platinum band -- I've always wanted one anyway. Maybe 4 mm? I'll be sad not to be able to wear my diamond, but I think I'll be so excited to be that far along that hopefully I won't care. Good luck with the delivery!!

Get yourself a plain band that fits, put your rings on a chain 'closer to your heart' ala Carrie on Sex and the City, and give that hubby a slap with your Hamburger Helper hand for calling them that.

Congratulations,  Heartprongs!!!

LOL,  I was HORRIFIED when I saw the abbreviated title of this thread on the Posted Today page!!! (The important word "fits" is missing)

I think the anguish of missing MM for a while is a small price to pay for the REAL gem that's soon to sparkle up your life!!

Best wishes to you!

I had a fakey mc fakerton for when my rings no longer fit me during my last 2 months.  I still have it-- fake gold plate and cloudy cheap CZ and all.  It's sort of a sentimental thing to see it gathering dust in my jewelry box.  Hopefully your fingers will go back to the size they were before pregnancy.  Unfortunately mine went from a 4.5 pre-pregnancy to a 6 during pg and then only back to a 5.25 that they are now.  I had to have my rings re-sized.  Same with my feet.  I wore a 6.5 before pg, went to a 7.5 during pg and then only back to a size 7 that I wear now.

Know what's funny about this...seems damn near all the mommies I know couldn't wear! their rings...so maybe we were the only ones who even thought about the unwed mother thing.

I could wear mine fine..(it was a thin band...)but I wasn't allowed to wear jewelry in the hosp..I kept making sure I referred to Steve as "MY HUSBAND".  LOL!!

Ah let the old ladies harumphf and shake their heads.  Their generation only pretended to be good...they just did it all in secrecy...

You guys are too funny...If I had more than a couple of weeks, I'd definitely go buy myself a big old honker! We'll see how they fit afterward. I didn't gain that much weight, so hopefully they'll be back on my fingers asap!!!

Thanks for all your kind words as well...We really cannot wait to meet this little "gem"!!!

Congratulations to you Demelza...it really does go by rather quickly after the first trimester!!!

Talk to you all soon

First congrats on your soon to be baby!  And second, you are LUCKY they fit you that long!  I have 4 kids and with each of my children, my rings stopped fitting me somewhere around the 5th or 6th month.

I tried mossanite in a larger size and hated it.

I ended up buying a bigger ring in white gold (my real rings are platinum but I did not want to spend that on a temp ring) and wore it through the first 2 or 3 months after birth until I lost the weight/swelling.

I got my money's worth out of that ring with all my kids LOL.

Dont' worry, your ring will fit.

And TRUST me, nobody thinks twice about a very pregnant women with no ring.

When I see a pregnant woman with no ring I would never assume she is not married,  I think, poor thing she is swollen.
