We're not sure yet, but right now we're leaning toward Macy's (which will merge w/ Marshall Fields soon) and Crate and Barrel. Perhaps Bed, Bath, and Beyond also. Those of you who are already married, how were your experiences registering at various places?

We're not registering until 4-6 months before the wedding (that's when I heard it's best to) but when we do, we'll probably register at Pottery Barn and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

We registered at BBB; there is an old thread on this, I think it is called "registering for gifts we don't need". We chose BBB because you can take back stuff and get cash. I know it's awful but we don't need anything that people would typically give as wedding gifts, and since you can't create a "tuition registry" at our schools (what a good idea that would be!) we just registered for mostly stuff we don't need and will be taking it back. I feel kind of guilty doing it this way but at least we can return it than have like, 17 woks. |

We are registered at Crate and Barrel and Macy's. Our wedding isn't until July 2007, but we knew our parents were throwing us an engagement party. Registering at both was easy. We actually went to the Macy's in Herald Square so that we could physically see/touch things like place settings and crystal. That Macy's typically has a wider selection in stock and on the floor than many local Macy's. We made it a fun wedding day in the city. However, I would definitely divide a Macy's registry into more than one trip! (Especially at that location.) I knew we were done for the day when FI was shooting me with the "gun" saying that I was "too expensive, so [I] would have to go on lay-a-way." He followed that up with kissing a large silver platter and raising it above his head like he had won Wimbledon. We were able to register for china, sterling, crystal, and kitchen wares (pots and pans, mixer, utensils, etc.) Tackling linens and towels also would have been way too much for one day. The one big problem we have had is that Crate and Barrel discontinues stuff ALL the time! Every time I log on to our registry, I see that more and more things are "no longer available online" and then discontinued all together. Not simply seasonal things, even the plates we were considering as every day ware were discontinued between browsing online and going in to the store to register! We are going to wait until much closer to the wedding to add anything else to that registry, so to better ensure the things will still be available! Munchkin

I also heard BBB is great now, they have a fine china section that is new at the one near me. Williams Sonoma can be nice too if you can get to one. They have great things. Department stores (Bloomies comes to mind) also have awesome selections! **************************** |

Date: 4/23/2006 3:30:33 PM I always loved the movies where the couples were at their wedding and everyone was giving them envelopes!!! So practical...you get what you need, and save the rest...no one needs 5 juicers. I think some of the computer registries are not always updated well...something looks like it has not been purchased so you end up with multiples til it gets updated...

Hehe, looks like I'm one of the few who is dying to get things from her registry! I'm just salivating over appliances, china, and everything else. However--and this may sound rude--I hope that people either give us money -or- something off our registry. I'll be pretty bummed if we get a lot of home stuff that we didn't ask for because everything we want will already be on our registry! |

Macys , although they are constantly changing their inventories, which results in me having to change my registry every couple months because items keep getting discontinued!

I'm registered at Bed Bath & Beyond for kitchen and misc things and at JC Penney for bath and bed stuff. Both was easy, although at JC Penney you can't register for evertything on-line that you could buy on-line which is kind of annoying but I'm sure it's their way of getting you in the store. My only problem with registering is I keep changing things...hehe I can't decide on what exactly we want and need.

We are registering at Crate and Barrel and Target. Many of our friends and family are from small towns where there aren't Crate and Barrels near by.

We registered over a year before the wedding and we got stuff from it for birthdays, christmases etc so it worked out great...it was easier for people to buy us stuff from it ahead of time. also we had an engagement party so we got gifts from it then too. We registered at CB, PB and WS and got most of what we had on there if I can recall...I still do need to finish up my china though! I did alot of the registration stuff online and filled the registries and managed from there too. ________________________________ |

We havent registered anywhere. we werent really going to untill a month or so before the wedding. Now I really want to go to macy's and william sonoma and register. Especially with the new house on my mind, i can think of all kinds of things I want to register for. We really arent expecting many gifts though, so registering hasnt been a priority.

we did Macys and Crate and Barrel. Both have been good. We looked into BBB but the prices were almost the same as Macys (w/in cents of each other), and although you can get cash back from BBB we went w/Macys because more ppl were familiar w/Macys... and a few relatives didn't know BBB at all... I dont' know if they're national or what but some ppl in the east coast didn't have one near them. Anyway. I didn't have any problems w/either store - the advantage to Macys is you can always use the gift cards or return stuff and get store credit for other stuff I guess, and their completion program is pretty decent - 10% everything on the registry for 3 mo after teh wedding, which you can use multiple times.. and if there's anything you want you can just add it to the registry after wards and buy it to get the discount.. hehe. If you get the Macy's card too they have a lot of specials for that, so for example this past weekend they had 10% off any purchases on the macy's which is on top of the 10% registry completion. And, this is kinda sneaky, but I found out my china was on sale this weekend w/a bonus of two free soup bowls (usu. about $30 each) if you spend $150, so I returned some of the place settings that were bought at retail, bought it back on sale, and got the extra soup bowls. So we ended up getting money back on the difference (sale vs retail for the settings) and are getting all the soup bowls we wanted (we were short a lot) ... of course the money back is on the macys card as store credit, but we were able to buy some other stuff off the registry we wanted - and we got the double 10% off bc of the macys card and the completion discount. The ladies at the china dept and registry dept at my local macy's were totally cool and did this paper pushing for us. We spoke to a manager that told us that the big bosses try to discourage this kind of thing but it's not against the rules. Plus the staff pretty much understand you just want to complete your registry and get the most out of the money, since the china is usually a pretty ridiculous price. I think we calculated that by doing this we got hundreds back in savings. If you ever try to do this, it's important to talk to a registry person at Macys and look at your registry record to see who bought what for what price. Because when you try to return something off your registry, the system automatically brings up the lowest price (for ex, if person A bought 1 place setting at $50 and person B got 1 at $80, the $50 return price will show up first) BUT if you have the shipping slip or a gift receipt from person B, and say you want to return at the price person B paid, then they can scan the receipt and you can return it for $80. I hope this makes sense.

Well, we are not married yet but we registered at BB&B, C&B, and a small one at pottery barn because they had the bedding I liked. I actually found it overwhelming and did most of it online.

We didn't register but instead are telling anyone who asks (and are spreading word through relatives) that if people feel led to give us a gift, just give us a gift card to Lowe's instead. We have way too much stuff already since we've both been on our own for a while and I realllllllly like to shop.
Nothing you can know that isn''t known. |

We're not going to register. Not to offend anyone, but we feel it's really tacky to "suggest" to people what they should give you as a gift. Actually, I'd really perfer no gifts at all, that way there aren't ten thousand thank-you's to hand write!!!! I always knew one day Id look back at the times I cried and laugh, but I never knew that one day Id look back at all the times I laughed and cry. |

We registered at Macy's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Pottery Barn. All of them were great, easy to register at, great with returns. I didn't have a problem at all. In retrospect I shoulda also registered at Williams-Sonoma...I love that store!!!
