I was just wondering what peoples opinions are on the hearts and arrows diamonds. Are they a lot better then the typical ideal cut? If you were to buy about a 1ct. round what specs would you want. I know a lot is about personal taste i.e. color, clarity. I am thinking D-H (I know it's a broad spectrum), and VS1-SI1. I am thinking that the cut is probably the most important factor, which of course I did not know till I joined this site a very short time ago. Therefore we are probably more willing to pay more for a better cut and sacrifice color/clariy.
There is so much information out there I just wanted to get some opinions. Also, I have read a lot about the internet websites such as WhiteFlash and they seem to be a better deal then most of the stores I have been to. Any thoughts???

Well I can answer some of your questions. I too knew very little about diamonds before finding this site. However once I did find the site I was able to find soo much information and increase my knowledge base. You are correct that cut is the most important factor when choosing the diamond. A great cut can make all the difference. Also you are right that online vendors will more than likely have better deals than the B&M's you will look at. I recently purchased a .555 ct Hearts and Arrows from WhiteFlash. I saved roughly $600 as opposed to buying it at a B&M locally that I was looking at. All I have to say is read up on the info that is available to you hear and just ask for advice. There are sooo many knowledgable people here and they are all willing to bend over backwards to help you. Best of luck for your search!

True love is the grandest thing of all.

Do you mean a branded Heart and arrows diamond or a diamond with hearts and arrows? The H&A pattern basically shows the symmetry of the diamond. The better the symmetry, the better the hearts and arrows pattern. While it is something to look for, it's not the only thing.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably go with Whiteflash since their prices are really reasonable. I'm debating on the hearts and arrows and the expert selection, partially because I can get a bigger stone with the expert selection. I guess it will come down to what I can talk my guy into, 1 ct. -1.25. I will ask for more advice when the time comes closer, I am just glad I am armed with so much more knowlege since I found this site.

Thanks

I would say if you asked around here on PS what the 4c's were they'd tell you CUT, CUT, CUT, and.... oh yeah CUT!!!! DO NOT SACRIFICE CUT FOR ANYTHING. An ideal cut diamond will help hide a not so ideal color or lower clarity grades. Demand an AGS000 or GIA EX cut stone and you can't go wrong..........

I always knew one day Id look back at the times I cried and laugh, but I never knew that one day Id look back at all the times I laughed and cry.

You'll be fine with the Expert Selection! My personal preference is G-H color and VS1 or VS2 clarity.  I helped my brother-in-law choose a 1 ct. ES stone last week, 1.02 cts., H, VVS2 (because there were no other contenders in H at the time). It is supposed to come tomorrow!

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
