hello, newbie here.  ordered a ritani 3 stone with 2 blue sapphires. it is my 5 yr anni ring, blue stones rep my 2 sons, age 3 and 18 months. 1 carat center stone h, si clarity.  quote was good the day i called--8700. bailey banks wanted 11,000.    i also bought the band. sisters jewelers in boston called ritani then called me. they called this am to tell me the ring is ready and price increased by 500.00.  can they change a quote?? i love this ring but feel like they are playing games.  i had hoped to return to them as my jeweler, they were very nice, friendly and cheaper than bailey banks and biddle.  how do i proceed?? they should pick up the 500 bucks, yes?? they said ritani increased the price due the increase in plat.  sound unethical??? i am nauseas, possibly pregnant, and my husband wants to cancel the order with sisters, it is custom made, not sure if i can, size 6 is standard.  this is the ring of my dreams, been wearing plain band.  any advice appreciated. alot of viewers, but no replies.    thx d

The quote is just verbal?  Do you have any quotes in writing, say when you ordered the ring?

I think the jewelers are within their rights to pass down the price increase to you -- since Ritani is an outside vendor.   But if they are gracious and appreciate your business, they should absorb or even split the price difference with you.

I can understand that it sounds ridiculous to give you one price and then hike it up quoting plat. increases, but a quote is a quote.  And you bought that ring based on the quote.  You are well within your right to cancel the order, methinks.

Just a tough situation for you and for your jeweler.  Can you call Ritani to verify the increase just for peace of mind?

I agree that you have the right to cancel...You ordered on the basis that it was $500 cheaper than they are quoting now.  That just isn't right IMO.

I disagree. I the vendor should suck it up if they underquoted, not the comsumers fault.
There is also a markup between Ritani and the vendor so the vendor could eat some of their own profit but passing it on to the customer after the sale had been made is poor business IMO. Even if Ritani did raise prices, it wouldn't effect rings already in progress, only new orders I'd guess.

always a lesson to be learned...get and invoice in writing. When I had my ring made by quest, they quoted me a price, I paid 1/2 right away and they sent me an invoice with the remaining balance due when the ring was done. They had to remake it 2 times but I still paid the agreed upon price..and plat. has been going up steadily for some time now..

thanks mrssalvo, i agee that i should not have to suck it up.  alas i have my ring.  i refused to pay the 500 extra.  i was told first it was due to increase in plat, then due to shipping, then to increase in diamonds price.  which is it?? they offered to pay half price, i said no, they should take responsibility, and a quote should not change.  after a few analogies, she agreed to sell at quote.  i was ready to cancel and get refund via cc.  flower/hand pics tomorrow when it is more sunny.  thank you all for your support and verbal self-defense.  thank you mr pearlman for your expert advice--a quote is a quote is a quote.  i love this ring, can't stop looking at it.  i also feel great about not paying the extra 500.   a happy ending. pics tomorrow.  thank you all
