Definitely thinking about having one...now that I actually have a date of course it's still about two years off (March '08) but I can start somewhat thinking about what I want to do right?

Anyway, I was thinking Cabo or somewhere in the Carribean...my mom suggested St. Lucia..my parents own this awesome resort timeshare and one of the options is St. Lucia...it's gorgeous plus they'll give the guests a group rate. We can get a private villa with our own private pool. St. Lucia looks like it'll cost less $$ too.

Anyone else planning a destination/beachy wedding? I think IslandDreams is as well...hey btw IslandDreams if I do a beach wedding...I'm definitely getting a blue zircon necklace and maybe some blue zircon earring jackets for the wedding!

Hey PrincessV-

My FI and I are thinking about having a DW in South Florida (Miami Beach or Palm Beach areas).  We are from NJ, so it would be challenging, but I think so fun and SO US!! We are thinking sometime next May...

I was actually considering a DW in St. Lucia. My mom has been there several times on cruises and says its the more gorgeous island in the Caribbean. In the end, I decided against a Dw, but I still might honeymoon there.

Dani: ooh keep me updated! That sounds lovely!

Xchick: would you happen to have any pics? Also, I think I read that you're having your wedding in Charleston, SC? Hehe I'm from SC and I adore Charleston! Reese Witherspoon was married in Charleston in a small wedding I'd love to know where she got married at. Have you picked a location yet?

i assume you meant cabo mexico? it's totally a tourist trap, i wouldn't think of it as beautiful at all, the resorts are nice but the rest is nothing special and parts of it are just plain icky...i'd do the carribbean over cabo hands down, or if you do west coast, go to hawaii!

as a destination wedding-er .... it was the best decision we could have made. our memories of that day and the days leading up to and after seem so much more vivid...and the euphoria you feel about getting married seems heightened by the vacation feel!!

Unfortunately, she was so busy she "forgot" her camera...on every vacation.

I didn't even know she got married here. I love her and I think they are the most adorable couple. I'll have to find out where she got married. And we're still debating locations, still considering the beach, though.

We're getting married on a cruise ship- my fiancee's idea but I totally went along with it because he was excited about it (he's not a "wedding" kind of guy and would actually be just fine with a courthouse/JP ceremony) and it's a package deal- little planning.  It's also very reasonable, price-wise.  I'd love to do a beach wedding but it was important to me that certain family members and friends be able to attend, so we're getting married while the ship is docked in Galveston so everyone can make the wedding even if they can't make the cruise.  I also like that our wedding will take place on the day we sail so we'll still have the entire cruise to enjoy ourselves without worrying about any wedding stuff.

Besides, it just fits our personalities- not a lot of fuss and bother but still something special and memorable.  We've invited everyone on the cruise with us so we'll have plenty of company on the honeymoon (parents, aunts/uncles, even Jim's grandma!!)

St. Lucia sounds wonderful.  I think that's a great idea!!

Nothing you can know that isn''t known.
Nothing you can see that isn''t shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn''t where you''re meant to be.
It''s easy.

St Lucia was our first choice but their "residency" requirement (3 full business days, not counting the day you arrive, weekends or holidays before you can get married) was too much so we decided on Antigua, which only requires 1 business day.  St Lucia is a beautiful island and if the time restriction isn't a factor for you I'd say go for it!

I've been to St. Lucia and Antiqua and the are BOTH gorgeous! My sister honeymooned at the Sandals St. Lucia and was not pleased with the resort though ... I stayed at St. Lucia's LE SPORT Spa Resort and LOVE LOVE LOVED it! I did the St. James Club in Antiqua and LOVED that too ...

When I was looking for Italian Villas I came across this one in St. Lucia ... if you'd rather have a private house instead of a resort feel ... it has nine bedrooms & gorgeous views.

Oh I can't wait to see what you choose!

We're getting married in the US Virgin Islands. Very meaningful place to me and my family, plus it's still in the US, so my FI's brother can marry us.
We're totally excited!
Congratulations, by the way, Princess V

Princess V, FI & I are having a destination wedding at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica at the end of this month.  The advantages so far have been that it's pretty low stress, very easy to plan (we meet with the on-site wedding coordinator when we arrive in Jamaica to decide on all of the wedding details--location, flowers, cake, ceremony, etc.) & cost effective for us.   We'll be at the resort for 10 days total so it will serve as our wedding & honeymoon.

The downside is that a lot of our close friends won't be able to join us.  (We're going to have around 30 guests but the majority are family & friends of our parents.)  Also, I'm not sure how it's going to be hanging out with the folks after the wedding when we're kind of on our honeymoon.    Most of our guests are leaving on the Monday after our wedding & we're staying until the following Saturday so we'll have some time alone together.

As the date draws nearer, I've been a bit nervous that I've never actually been to the resort before & don't know what to expect.    I'm sure it'll all turn out fine as these guys do weddings all the time & must have it down to a science, but I've been obsessing nonetheless.

All in all, though, I think it was the right choice for us.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

Oooh wow so many responses

Mara: Good point about Cabo especially in March all those college SBers *shudders* How long did you stay in Hawaii before the wedding and how long after?

XChick03: I'm think I'm pretty set on a beach wedding I just have always adored the ocean so at least that is settled with me! Let me know where you decide your wedding will be.

chickflick: I think a cruise ship sounds like a great alternative (only I get motion sickness really easily, even on cruise ships I sometimes get sick weird I know!) It sounds like it would be a great thing ideally for us too if only I wasn't the way I was

AmantdeChat: Yes, I did see the residency requirement...which I don't think is a huge problem because we're doing it sometime the week of March 03, my fiance has SB all week that week...plus I want the other guests to have a semi vaca too.

deco: Yeah I'm not really impressed with Sandals actually I wanted more of a villa feel...that house you found is gorgeous!! It'd be perfect except I can't put my fiance's mom and dad together...really bad divorce as in they still really hate each other and can't stand to be around each other. So, we get to kind of leave it up to them to decide where they want to stay.

Tybee: That sounds great! Do you have a knot bio or some pictures of the place? I want to see Congratulations!

Brightspot: Oooh you must just be so excited! Make sure you take lots of pictures!! Are you going to have an informal reception type when you get back?

ETA: Oh yes this is the website http://www.festivaresorts.com/windjammer.html of the place in St. Lucia my mom was suggesting that we could stay at and use the time share as well. What does everyone think?

We are getting married on May 22nd at a lovely small resort in Antigua... I bought a PROM DRESS! on ebay for 70, it's perfect for a beach wedding (handkerchief hem, light and airy- I'll do pics soon!)

I originally did not want a DW and in some ways still wish we were getting married here; we are having a reception afterwards, however, so I think that should make it a little easier to share with friends and family.  Good luck!  (P.S. the blue waters resort offers free weddings w/ a ten night stay; it's small, they cater to mostly british tourists- you can decide how you feel about that- but it seems like a classy, lovely, and not too incredibly expensive place.)

I had friends go through Sandals on St. Lucia, they loved it and said it was wonderful. I'd use Sandals simply because its all inclusive.

I am getting married in the Bahamas this Sept. I am really looking forward to it, but the best advice I can give is, get yourself a wedding planner!. We flew down there 2 times to check things out and meet with people but we still are definitely getting our money's worth out of our planner!
