So I got the green light from hubby to do an e-ring upgrade. ');" alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/31.gif" border=0> YAY!

We're several months away from being able to make it happen, but now that I have the nod, I'm tempted to buy a Gottlieb setting that's on consignment.

It's a great deal and I do think it's beautiful, but I also love a particular Tacori setting.

Should I go with the classic, lovely and very reasonable Gottlieb & Sons:
(Sorry, I'm not sure how to attach this picture, so I'll do a link)

http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Search/JewelrySearchDetails.asp?sSKU=89990

Or this Tacori setting, which is pricier, but still so wonderful:
(again, please forgive the link)

http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Search/JewelrySearchDetails.asp?sSKU=88787

I know they're very different, but I really do like them both. I value your opinions, so I'd love to hear what you all prefer.

If I went Tacori, I wouldn't buy it until I had the stone. If I went Gottlieb, I'd probably try to snap up that great deal now as I know approximately the size stone I'll be getting and the vendor believes it'll fit in the head just fine.

So...whaddya think? ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0>

While they're both really gorgeous settings, I'm going to have to vote for the Gottlieb and Sons (though never seeing either in person, it's a really tough choice). I cannot tell you how often I enjoy the sparkle in my e-ring band. My whole ring sparkles!

That being said, which can you imagine on your finger for the next 10 or 50 years? When you close your eyes, which setting would you want to see when you opened them?

the detail of the tacori is very cool...but i like the center stone to stand alone.  my vote would be for the shared prong.
have you checked out the facets collection?

If you don't mind previously owned you could get the same Gottlieb & Son setting for $400 and have the head changed to fit your stone if need be.  Talk about a really good deal!

ETA: oops I re-read and saw you were looking at this one on consignment.  I think it is an awesome deal and a very pretty ring!!

You guys are just the best!!! ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0> I really appreciate the comments and feedback. Sounds pretty dang unanimous. I'm gonna go with #1, which was what my gut was telling me.

And of course I'll share stone options when I get to that point. ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif" width=15 border=0>

Thanks, everyone!! You helped make this decision an easy one. ');" alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/35.gif" align=absMiddle border=0>

Everyone just reaffirmed what your gut was telling you. I was late to chime in but I like #1 too.

#1 is Pebbles old e-ring (and if you are talking about the ring at Pearlmans, that is Pebbles actual setting).

I like it very much, but you might want to search for Pebbles thread on the setting, because the way the stones sat bothered her (something about them being uneven).  Just an FYI.  Hopefully she will chime in.

P.S.  She has pics of the setting in a thread here on PS too if you are interested.

I love that Gottleib setting - loved it when pebbles had it - was probably my favorite of all her settings!  If it were my ring size and could accomodate my stone or have the head switched to do so, I would snap that up from Pearlman's in a second!!!  It's got my vote!

Me too. Peebles even told me after she decided to consign it she missed it and almost bought it back.

Thanks to you all, I am now the proud owner of that lovely Gottlieb & Sons setting. Yay! ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0>

I remember when Pebbles decided to change settings, and I've had my eye on it since it showed up at Pearlmans. ');" alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/31.gif" border=0>  I was waiting for the big green light from hubby on the e-ring before I got too excited about settings shopping--if ya know what I mean. ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif" width=15 border=0> Plus, I was still pretty torn about the Tacori 'cuz they're just so darn beautiful.

It was also so nice emailing with Bill. Turns out a friend of his grew up in the (relatively small) town I live in. Small world, eh? ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0>

Hi Kathy!

I'm glad that setting is going to a good home!  MrsSalvo is right -- I was *this close* to buying it back because I had missed it more that I thought I would.  The main reason I did not is b/c I thought Bill would kill me!

The reason why I sold it to Bill in the first place is because the first two diamonds (not the bigger ones on either side of the center, but the ones directly next to those) sat a little lower than the others.  I had two different jewelers tell me that that is how they are supposed to be, and it is because they shared a prong with the larger stone.  Does that make sense?  To most normal people, that would not be a big deal, but to someone as anal as myself, once I noticed it, I just could not get it out of my head.  I was also at the time in love with a Scott Kay 3 stone ring so that's what I traded it in for.

I had the setting for less than a month and it is practically brand new.  It had never been sized before.  The diamonds are good quality and there is a matching wedding band available that will sit flush with it.

I hope you enjoy it.  What kind of diamond are you putting in the center?

i know you've made your decision but the first one is my favorite as well!!  It's going to be so pretty when you get it!

And I had to laugh as I scrolled through the pre-owned rings and came across the one that the guy brought back because she wouldn't sign a pre-nup.    No telling what I'd sign for a ring like that!

Nothing you can see that isn''t shown.

It''s easy.

Hi Pebbles! ');" alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/35.gif" align=absMiddle border=0>

Your setting is definitely going to a good home. ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0> I'm so happy I chose it--and that it was still available!

I looooooooooooooove your Scott Kay 3-stone. It's absolutely stunning. It's great to hear that you missed your original setting, too! ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0> I think I can live with the slightly uneven stone thing, especially for the price! ');" alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/31.gif" border=0> And I don't have super great attention to detail for stuff like that, so I bet I won't even see it!

My plan is to put a round H&A in your setting. I'm thinking something in the 1.25 carat range. My husband and I have been married for almost 14 years and although I love my original wedding set for sentimental reasons it's--uh--let's say not so beautiful. We were pretty young when we got married (22) and fresh out of college. We had about $14 between us and did the whole Kay Jewelers (then Weisfield's) route. I think it hurt my husband's feelings initially that I wanted a change. He's a very sentimental and sweet guy. After awhile, though, he was basically like, Hey if that's what you really want, I'm cool with it. Nice, huh? It wasn't until I bought my Jubilee from GOG that I realized how beautiful diamonds could be. Now there's no turning back. ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif" width=15 border=0> My poor husband!

So, hey, is your original wedding band with Bill, too? Otherwise, I'm sure he could probably get me the matching one through Gottlieb & Sons, too. What a nice man Bill is. I'm continually impressed with how great all the vendors around here are.

Chickflick (your name always makes me smile because I used to review movies under the pseudonym Flick Chick ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif" width=15 border=0>), your post cracked me up! ');" height=15 alt="Insert smilie " src="http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/5.gif" width=15 border=0> I lust after that "prenup" ring, too. The descriptions on some of those pieces kill me, like the guy who thought his fiance wouldn't notice if he used a CZ. (snort!)
