I'm not sure why it changed everything *timing wise,* but last week's unfortunate trip to the jeweler really set things in motion! I knew you guys were right about searching online....I found 2 semi-mounts that are super close to my original plan (slightly smaller pave diamonds, but minor difference) and I should have them in my hand TODAY to look at!! I'm SOOOOOOO excited. I really went back-and-forth on having them shipped, thinking it really would be smarter to have the diamond first, but my bf told me to go ahead and have them sent so we can look at them. YAY! So then this wednesday we went to a different local jeweler (not to buy, just to look at daimonds). And I am totally torn. I'm doing the whole pave band/halo (prong) setting, BUT I can't decide between a pear or an oval. I originally wanted a 3 stone oval ring (last year) and Ritani's 3-stone endless love made me fall in love with the halo setting, and from there I fell in love with a pear because it was just so different (from anything I had ever considered). I DO worry about trendiness, and for me to get a halo is more over-the-top than I normally am (but I LOVE it), so what do you guys think?? I love them both :) ![]() FWIW, I wear a size 7 and even though I wouldn't consider my hand short, they're not especially long either. Long story short: BF is really getting into this process more and more and is happy to see me excited. I gave him an "out" for having the settings shipped and he wanted me to have them sent anyway, so that has to be a good sign, right?? I'd love to hear opinions on the stone/setting, but mainly I really just had to come be EXCITED and tell someone!!! ![]() jen |

Well, either way, ovals and pears are both unique settings. Maybe not on PS, but if you go outside to the world around us (why do that? ) most of the stones are RB. But IMHO, I think ovals are GREAT. They are classic, but also unique. :)

While in general I prefer ovals to pears, that is *not* the case when it involves a halo. Diamond Lil's ring is one of my all-time favorites. I think it is classic and beautiful, and not at all over-the-top or trendy. In any event, I don't think you can go wrong either way. Have fun!

I recently (via another thread) realized how much less expensive ovals are to rounds (I presume pears are similarly priced?) - this is definitely a bonus. Personally, I think pears might be more flattering (slimming, elongating) for shorter fingers than ovals would. I don't have any empirical proof of this - just something I perceive in my brain.

Do you have pics of the shapes in the settings your considering? Or even just the settings?

OK, well, aren't *you guys* a lot of help (dripping with sarcasm, i hope you realize) :) !! That was one vote pear, one vote oval, one vote both :) Hahaha OK, now you see MY dilemma! Stermag -- i think you might be right about the shape of a pear on my fingers, but the oval has a similar effect (ugh). Ovals and pears seem to be pretty close in price, with ovals generally being slightly if any bit higher. Amy -- I was hoping to take a pic of the settings when they got here and then I guess from there I will need to figure out how to get them posted on here! Momothree- I love diamonlil's ring too -- Showed it to my bf when I first got on PS and said "THAT's what I've been talking about!!" Exactly how I envisioned mine! Anchor -- It feels close, and it feels exciting, but it could still end up being a bad case 'o "boy soon" Let's hope not!! OK -- update -- no settings here yet, I hope not to be another victim of bad mail delivery, but it's supposed to come fed-ex, and by my calculations, they have one more hour. If they don't come today, i will be so let-down --- We really *do* get more impatient as things get closer, don't we? ![]() ![]() ![]() jen

Quick edit --- DiamondLil's ring is gorgeous and I really love it, too, but the one I meant earlier was Firegoddess's ring --- if i go w/a pear it will be very close to that, but with (hopefully) a 1 carat diamond (obviously smaller than hers!!) Just wanted to make That clear in case anyone had any other ideas about settings for me (in case the ones being shipped to me from mavilo don't work out -- ps they didn't come today. Does fed-ex deliver on saturdays? The wait has really just begun and it's killing me.![]() jen

Just get everything!! ![]() I would never be able to pick one shape, or one setting, or one anything that I wanted. They're all so wonderful! BF wants it to be a surprise, so he has a long list of things I'd love and he's going to choose something that he likes from that. That takes the decision making off of my terribly indecisive hands. Is that something that might work for the two of you? (Even if not a surprise, just having him make the final decision if you can't.)
