I am happily turning 40 in June (I am really looking forward to it), and my FI asked me for ideas for gifts... I really like the style of bezel set diamond earrings, and pendant that Blue Nile carries.. can you give me other *fun* (realistic- lol) ideas? A nice watch would be nice, too.. but I honestly dont know much about watches.

Speaking of unrealistic, I suggested moving to Italy but.. its a no go. LOL

Honestly, I would like something that I will always remember my 40th by. But.. because we are still paying for our wedding, it has to be budgeted between somewhere between 300-800ish... sadly, he would prefer the low end. lol

Thanks in advance!

Any chance of a trip to Italy?? Perhaps coordinated with your honeymoon?

I think a nice watch would be a great 40th birthday present too.

I'm a big watch lover too ... I got myself a Tiff watch for my 30th birthday, and at 38 now still wear it everyday! That's what I like about watches ... if you pick wisely, it's something you see and appreciate EVERY DAY.

Earrings & pendants are nice, but you don't really see them much. (Unless you're a mirror-holic like I've been accused of being at times )

But I'm also all for travel. Memories last forever too! Italy ROCKS! Ya
wouldn't forget THAT!

ETA: ORRRRRRR ... what about a great, CLASSIC designer bag you wouldn't ever have gotten yourself. Gucci? Louis? Tods? As long as you pick something totally classic, not trendy (hello Kors, Jacobs: talking 'bout you!) you'd probably have that in 20-30 years too!

SDL, I know you can get a Gucci for around $3 - 400 or so, one of the 1500 series I think.  They look really nice, elegant and simple, a good name and a quality watch for not too unreasonable a price, I have one myself.  Congrats on the big 40!

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be...

Actually, we visit the shelter here constantly... I wouldnt be adverse to it at all. Our baby Hannah was a shelter dog.. her previous owners got her from one, and then didnt treat her very well..

I think getting a rescue dog is a great idea.  Next dog I get will definitely be a rescue.  Irina a pug lived for 26 years, that is amazing.

Yep kaleigh, especially for the "twisted airway" kind of breed, but it's not that rare for pags to live long healthy life.
Sorry for dogjacking your thread Lady.

if you get a pug, be sure to do the research on their potential breathing/airway issues as bad breeding or mixed breeding can be a curse not a blessing with this breed...they can look cute on the outside but you never know about inside. i have run across just-fine ones, and also ones that have had alot of breathing problems and need surgeries etc. we have a bunch in our complex, they are verra cute!

Well you will still be 40 when you go so you could consider it a late birthday present right?! Italy is beautiful - I'm glad you are able to go next year!!!! My husband and I were engaged there in '90 and hope to go back in the next couple of years or so.

Happy early BDay SDL!

I think diamond earrings sound lovely!

Enjoy Italy , and then when you come back home, then splurge on a lil' fury love-ball!

I am currently still in saving mode for my 40th bday present. Hubby gave me $$$, but I decided to have a pair of dangle earrings custom made, and willing to save for a lil' while longer to get the look I 'really' want.

Keep us updated, how exciting your future is ... Bday , Wedding & Italy !
Just Yummy!

ETA: Oopps ... I just re-read this post, and thought you were going to Italy like for your honeymoon. Well, I still say get the earrings, and then maybe for Thanksgiving or Christmas ... splurge on a cute lil' lovin' furball !

LOVE ... is the Greatest Gift of all!

Happy early birthday!! Adopting a shelter dog is such a great idea... We adopted my sister's dog when she was a puppy (she's now 10... I can barely believe it!) and got her from a shelter. Her poor mother, a beautiful Husky, was being mistreated while pregnant. As a result, Kinou is a bit on the small side, but she has energy to spare!! She's a great dog and I love her very much.

Happy birthday, and happy wedding planning!

We just recently got our best dog ever as a rescue dog.  We already have a purebred golden, but my little daughter was having a rough time emotionally and we felt she needed her own dog to love.  We were outside Petsmart and I saw this little black dog limping around, and said, why is that dog limping?  The rescue worker said, because he only has THREE legs!  I was so embarrassed, but my little one took one look at Corky and said THATS MY DOG.  I was hesitant, and we waited about three weeks to follow up, but we got him, and he's a firecracker.  You'd never guess he's missing a leg with all the charging around he does.  He keeps our golden and the cat on their toes.  We take him to the dog park and he chases all the big dogs (he's only 14 lbs).  And he knows he was adopted to love our kids.  He follows them everywhere and hangs out in their bedrooms.  We've had rescue dogs before (retired racing greyhounds), but he's the best.

So, I vote for 1) diamond earrings and 2) a dog!
