We had decided that we wanted Belize to be the wedding spot...if i am reading the rules correctly...you have to be in Belize 3 days before filing the marriage liscense...then it says it takes a week....so does that mean I have to be in Belize for 10 days before the wedding??? I am really hoping that I am misunderstanding this...if anyone has wed in belize..please help! THANKS

Hi Gracie.

From the websites I've read, it looks like you have to be in the country for 3 days to wed in Belize.  But of course I did not marry there so I can't speak from experience.  I'm listing info I've found -- I'm sorry if you've already found these sites.

Here's wedding info from the official Belize tourism website:
http://www.travelbelize.org/honeym.html

I found another great looking resort in Belize, they specialize in weddings and even have a registered marriage officer, and chapel, on site.
http://www.mopanriverresort.com/wedding.html

And I just found another list of requirements from Victoria House -- it says that just ONE of the parties must be in the country for 3 days prior to the wedding.  http://www.victoria-house.com/requirements.html

Here's some more info from another resort:  http://www.hamanasi.com/belize_wedding.html

It says:

"The Government of Belize requires that you reside in Belize 3 business days and can submit your marriage application on the fourth business day. The completed paperwork is ready the following business day. We can facilitate the paperwork for you. Ministers and Justices of the Peace may conduct ceremonies in their respective churches or any other location you choose, traditional or otherwise. Many Ministers will officiate non-sectarian ceremonies and allow you to write your own vows. Registry working days are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM — 5:00 PM. The Registry is not open on statutory holidays"

REQUIREMENTS FOR A CIVIL or CHURCH WEDDING IN BELIZE

IF NEITHER OF THE PARTIES HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY MARRIED:
Fully completed marriage license application form - Notarized by a Justice of the Peace.
Photocopy of front 2 pages of passport and page showing arrival date into Belize.
Both parties must be in the country 3 business days prior to filing the petition of the license.

Hi Gracie,
I got married in Belize and although I was legally married here in the States first and didn't need to worry about this, I did do some research and you only have to be there for three days before the day of the wedding. I was married at Hamanasi and all of the big resorts will guide you through this. They take care of everything.
