We registered in our first store today! I was so excited to see our name printed with our wedding date. It was so silly.. but I was so excited :) Where has everyone registered? I just wondered what kinds of stores? I did go online and register our Pfaltzgraff pattern as well.. but.. this was the first actual store we registered in.

Cheers!

Congrats, SDL!  So glad to hear you've taken the "plunge" and registered!  I wish I could buy you a wedding gift now, I feel like I know you, lol!

We registered at C & B and Marshall Fields.  We had already lived together and didn't need a whole lot of "stuff."  I did register for china and flatware, which we were happy to receive, but now two years later we are still finding we have to spend out of our own pocket to fill in.

You're the best, and I hope you get everything you lil sapphire lovin' heart desires!!!

We need EVERYTHING..
So we registered at BB&B and Linens & Things.. no fancy shmanzy stuff for us.
We also registered for Target, although honestly, the Target stuff is mostly just "fun" stuff that would be nice to get.. but I don't really care if I do or don't.

And.. I'm a registry stalker!! I am a BAD BAD BAD girl!

We registered at Bloomingdale's and Williams Sonoma.  And here we are, 3 weeks after the wedding and almost EVERYTHING has been purchased!  MS, I was a total registry stalker--checked online at least twice a day!  So bad...

We registered at Dillard's and Williams-Sonoma.  We don't necessarily "need" anything either - being in our 30's and having lived together for nearly 2 years, and on our own for 10...  But, I ended up registering for a lot of nicer things to replace our low quality crappy stuff - you know, the stuff you buy because you need it but you're broke and single so you opt for the absolute cheapest one you can find?  Like, we've got some cookware that is really ratty - and since I love love love to cook we registered for some super duper nice All-Clad & Cruet cookware.  And knives... our knives are for crap so I registered for some Wusthoff (sp?) knives...  We've got about 5 or 6 fairly expensive items on our registry and figure that our parents, grandparents, and a couple of other close relatives or friends will want to splurge on us, and the rest of the items are mostly under $40, mostly kitchen gadgets and some everyday place settings.  My mom gave me her fine china so we're set there.  I think I'm also going to register at Restoration Hardware, but not really tell people about it, just to get the completion program discount - I'm saving pennies for a new leather sofa and they have one that I've been drooling over for about 2 years.

We're at BB&B and Sears. I really hope people mostly get stuff from our lists, we spent a lot of time working on those! It caused a few arguments too - I tried to explain this is your chance to ask for the things you want or ought to have, he didn't want to replace anything we already own, like towels and sheets!

That's MRS. Pittenger, thank you very much!

We registered at Williams Sonoma and Geary's of Beverly Hills.  We have lived together for about a year now, plus I love to cook so I have lots of nice kitchen stuff.  We registered for our crystal and china at Geary's.  Nice cookware and some random kichen stuff from Williams Sonoma.  I love C and B too but I didn't want to register at too many places.  The Geary's registry is our absolute favorite.  The have a gift letter program so when someone sends you something from your registry you get a lovely letter stating what you got and from whom.  Then you can chose to either pick up all of the items in the store or have them sent to you all at once.

I registered at BB&B and C&B. I went with my mom since FI would be more trouble than help. He is not exactly a shopper.

Funny, we registered at William Sonoma too.. I REALLY want that pink mixer rofl. My Pfaltzgraff dishes are "Tea Rose" so it goes with my kitchen theme.. My walls are a very pale pink in my kitchen. Its the only place in the house that's painted "my color".. I love it. I found my hand towels at Target, which I love. But there are just a few things there at WS that I wanted. The mixing bowls, the spatula's.. utensils that werent' spendy at all.. I have wanted that pink mixer though now for probably three or four years.

I love Target, and they have some things we could really use.

For having lived together almost five years, we really still dont have very much... We have three sets of mis matched dishes (only the Pfaltzgraff are used however). So the others are HIGH on the top shelf not to be used because they're ugly and my FMIL bought them. Gross. They are awful, tacky bold flower print and I hate them. We really need flatware.. and matching cups.. which we also have a ton of different kinds of. lol

Oh.. I love BBB.. oohahh.. They have a huge one here in Mission Valley.. Its a two story.. it rocks.

I would actually love Lowe's gift cards.. good Lord.. they never expire and we could always use them. lol I hate to admit cash would also be really nice, because it would go into savings.. for the house we are saving for in three years...... I can't wait to get out of this one.. *sigh*

We're registered at Target and Macy's.  We finished the Macy's yesterday and I just so wasn't into it.  I'm not a china-pattern kind of girl (hello, we rent a 950 s.f. apartment) but I loooooooooove crystal so that's the only reason we went to an upscale dept store.  Truth be told, I'd scrap the registries if we could and hope for cash.  We really don't NEED anything and knowing that we'll move overseas in 2-3 years makes me feel guilty that we won't be able to take a lot of the stuff with us.

I thought registering for gifts would be so much fun but in reality, it was exhausting.  Okay, the kitchen area was kinda fun but arguing over dishes was not fun and trying to explain to FI WHY we need certain things...ugh!

Me three!

We already have a lot of stuff, so we're really going the "upgrade" route with our registries.

Registering was one of the first things we did after we got engaged.  We were sooo excited!

Did anyone do the C&B Sunday Morning Engagement thing?  It was a great experience.

Yeah...I was thinking the exact same thing DF.

I live in the UK, and more and more couples are now registering with stores for their wedding gifts. I too have seem some pretty expensive items on wedding lists.

I remember my mother (who is retired) being invited to such a wedding, and she was desperately trying to find something on the list she could afford. She then felt guilty, as she realised the couple would know exactly how much she had spent.

In the old days, when folk were starting out, they were happy to recieve whatever gifts people bought for them. If they wanted to ask you 'specifically' what you wanted, then they could. But folk weren't under any obligation or pressure to buy from a wedding list.

When I got mairred my daughter was only 6-months old, and some people bought toys, as a wedding gift. We were grateful for absolutely everything people gave us.

yeh we did. it was pretty cool. it was nice being in the store putting out our place setting to make sure it all went together without feeling weird. everyone else there was doing the same thing...

and we got the heart shapped glasses, but they were chipped

The most expensive thing I have on my list is a mixer.. its pink.. I've always wanted it but dont expect it.. I plan to buy it after the wedding regardless.. but holy moses.. 1500.. I'm just shocked.. that's just kind of over the top.

We registered at CB and Macys. My Fi and I moved in together after we graduated from college, almost two years ago so we are mostly upgrading our kitchen items, but don't need a lot.   The most expensive item on our registry is a $500 vacuum that is supposed to suck up pet hair and never get clogged ; )  I figured I'd put this on the registry because even if no one buys it for us and I'm really not expecting anyone too, we get a discount on it after our wedding so we'll just buy it then.

When is it "too early" to register? If we're planning on a May 5th (2007) wedding, when should we?

Excellent questiong Ebree, I'm getting married May 27, 2007.  I've read that you should register as soon as you get engaged, then I've read at least a year before....so when is the earliest we 2007 brides  should register?

FI and I just registered this past weekend.  I was really excited and looking forward to it, but it ended up being kind of frustrating because FI was sick and in this annoying grumpy mood the whole time.

Anyways, since we registered I have gone online and changed sooo many things!  At Bed Bath and Beyond they sent someone to walk around the store with us and pressure us into registering for more/pricier stuff.  Then, they would change the amounts and add stuff we didn't even choose.  For example, we scanned four bath towels because it's just the two of us and we already own some towels, but I went online and they had changed the quantity to eight!  When we got home I just went on and changed the quantity back to four.

We went to the Sunday morning Crate and Barrel event, and that was pretty nice.  Plus, they were out of the champage flutes so they gave us a paring knife instead (which I liked better anyway), and said we would get the flutes in the mail.  Bonus!
We also registered at Macy's.

The most expensive item we registered for was a $279 Kitchenaid stand mixer.  We also want a $400 set of pots and pans, but we figured we'd register for individual pots and pans and then if we get enough we'll exchange them for a complete set.

Ebree - We just registered this weekend for our August wedding.  I wouldn't register too early, because by the time your wedding rolls around, lots of the stuff you chose will be discontinued.  I actually think that even 6 months ahead of time (like us) might be too early, but at least this way I have time to tweak my registries for a while before anyone actually tries to buy us anything.

The stores try to tell you to register as soon as you are engaged so that people can buy you engagement gifts off your registry, but unless you really think that will happen it's probably not a great idea.  We had two engagement parties and only got ONE gift total.

From bellaonline.com...

"If your engagement is more than a year long, then don't register as soon as you get engaged. You can and it's not inappropriate to do so, but many of the stores will alter their inventory every few months because of the change in seasons. If you register early, you run the risk of registering for an item that won't be available when your friends and family go to purchase it. Six to eight months before the wedding is a pretty safe time to do your registry."

My fiance and I have a lot of kitchen stuff, but all of it used to belong to our parents (it's a bit old). I want to register for new stuff since a wedding is a new start. I'm tempted to sign up right now to put the Dyson Animal on it...that's one thing we'll definitely be registering for. It IS $500.00 though. Is that the vacuum you're talking about, SeaShell?

Well, she wasn't exactly hovering over us, but she would take us to a section, give us her "advice" and then leave us for a little while to decide what we liked.  I'm not sure if they do that for everyone or if she was doing that because at first the scanner gizmo wasn't working, so she had to take the stuff we liked and enter it manually herself.  Anyway, it was kind of annoying, but I comforted myself with the knowledge that I could go home and change it all online afterwards.  Which I have done every day since.

UGH!   I'll have to remember to specifically request 'no chaprone(sp)'  I wonder if Linens and More is like that...maybe I'll register there.
