Is it possible to do a Trillion diamond with a tension setting?

I''m thinking of a Helix band, One end of the band is holding the Diamond across the base of the triangle and the other end on the point. Anyone have a link to something similar?

If this can be done, as well as the one below, I don't see why not. I'd suggest contacting someone who deals with tension designers (Dimend Scaasi, Pearlman's, etc)

This is a Gelin-Abaci from Dimend Scaasi

Yes it is.  The point of the stone must be blunted so it does not chip but it is not a problem.

Hey Bill.

Do these settings put a big compressive force on the diamonds or is it more of just a very snug fit? That princess looks precarious to me, and a trillion would be even more so.

Gelin&Abaci and Bunz have some, but Kretchmer's come with the cleanest, elegant lines, IMO (below). And the one at Pearlman's was also Kretchmer...

Are these anywhere similar to what you are seeking?

The G&A ones are heavier designs - at least those on the website (www.gelinabaci.com). I think they have a simple one too... just couldn't find anything like that online.

One colleague has one - about 7mm wide... It looks great on her. It is not an e-ring.

Hope this helps

I can't speak to the other manufactures of tension settings but Steven Kretchmer compress at 12,000 lbs per square inch.  Compare this to a pronged ring where you have on average 400 to 600 lbs per prong and it's quite amazing.  Stressed, grainy, and low claritys do not do well in this type of setting.  Does that answer?

I am in the process of buying a tension set band. With mine, I am having the bar at the bottom for more support.
Here is a picture of the one I am getting, but the sides will be rounded around the stone. I think with a trillion something like this, but with the sides that hold the stone, top to bottom intead of left to right.

Preface this all by saying I'm getting a G+A ering right now for my intended.

If you go to micky roof jeweler's website, you can see all the Gelin Abaci settings they sell--what is especially nice about the micky roof website is that they also have a chart of what cut and size of stone they can put in each kind of setting. As far as I can tell not too many of them will take trillian cut but there are some. So in terms of Gelin Abaci that answers your question. There are other tension setters, Kretchmer being the most prestigious. His settings I found were quite expensive and the vast majority of them didn't really do anything for me.

Thank you for all the replys and links they were very helpful!

I just love the look that a tension setting gives to a diamond. I especially like the style of Steven Kretchmer but I haven't seen "THE ONE" yet. I'm having a hard time finding anything with a tension setting in my city of Grand Rapids, MI to try on. Most stores at the mall have little to choose from, or try to sell me something else and give such negative feedback about tension settings.

I work with 3D CAD software and I'm actually trying to build a model of my ring and make a prototype.

My husband and I would like to get new wedding bands and upgrade my engagement ring for our 13th anniversary. My wedding band and Engagement ring didn't go together too well and I think I would like something like this helix with companion:

My current diamond is round about .6 carat in a prong setting. I'm considering changing the stone to a Trillion if possible. I don't know anything about upgrading but eveyone seems to have a different rules.

It might be an extra trip but I strongly recommend you make the effort to try on the tension rings in person. I was surprised (but not turned off) by how large most of the settings were and how heavy they were. I ended up buying one so I (and she) obviously liked them, but I think it could have been a problem and in the end I was glad we saw them.

Don't know how this ring was made - tension or some other strategy.

The picture comes from a website more often mentioned on the color forum - Edward Bristol's 'Wild Fish'

Just an(other) idea... - custm , this time.
