I used to work with a girl who had a band just like this and it was beautiful:

(from www.whiteflash.com)

My engagement ring has .35ctw of bead-set diamonds in the band, and I don't want to "match" it with a similar wedding band as I feel it should stand out. I'm fine with getting a plain 2mm platinum band to go along with it, but some part of me feels a little sparkle in the band wouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately, my hands are very small and my fingers are short (ring finger size 6) so I wouldn't want to go much over 2mm for a band like the one above. Maybe 2.5mm at the most.

Have you seen it at that width? Would such a thin size even work? Do you think it'd look good with a bead-set solitaire e-ring? I know it might look weird, but if the band was thin, it could work, right? Be honest! Nothing's been bought yet!

I have the Tiffany etoile version of that ring.  It is just under 4mm with the edges having a rolled under effect so it doesn't look as wide as a typical 4 mm band.  I think you have to have a certain amount of width to a ring like that in order to have space to scatter the diamonds.  If you go alot thinner, the diamonds would probably look more like they were in a row instead of scattered.  I would call a couple of vendors to see about having something like that made in a thinner width.  They could tell you the limit to the width to get the 'scattered' look.

2mm is very small.  as mgr said, you wouldn't really be able to get the 'scattered' look.  the band would just not have enough room (and the diamonds would have to be unbelievably small)  what about a band with alternating shapes to be different?

I have a 2mm plain band and I agree with Belle that you will not achieve that scattered look with a band that thin.  I too would think it would hard to have diamond burnished set in that thin a band.

I'm all for getting 2 bands -- one plain and one with diamonds.   That way if you want to wear a band just by itself you'll have something sparkly to wear.  A 2mm plain band is pretty cheap -- I got mine in 18kt white gold from Signed Pieces for $65.

Since you don't want a matching band, I'd just get the plain band. I'm honestly not a big fan of the scattered diamond band with you're gorgeous antique looking e-ring.

to me your e-ring and the scattered band are two totally different eras in terms of design...

that scattered band would be appropriate for a RHR i think with an e-ring like yours. i like the rings that belle posted for yours or get a matching band or just a plain one.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone (and for the compliment, MsSalvo)! The plain band is still definitely a frontrunner, but I just can't get that one band out of my head. I like it because it has rounds (I'm still a bit matchy) and is sparkly, yet isn't *too* sparkly. Do you think it would work at 3mm? It doesn't have to have the "scattered" look necessarily. Different size stones might look cool and achieve a somewhat scattered look. That'd have to be custom.

I agree with Mara. I love burnished diamond rings but to me they are a modern look. Your e-ring is a vintage look. Together I don't think they will work. Sorry. I would get a bead set diamond band if you want some more sparkle.

I agree with some of the others - you are combining two different looks.  The etoile style band is a highly polished band.  You would have to somehow combine the milgrain non-polished look in a band to go with your ering (which is beautiful BTW).  Maybe a band with your same ering design with small diamonds spaced apart.

Does your ering setting come with a matching band?

It was a custom setting, so I'd have to get the band custom made. The only problem is, that'd be too much sparkle (don't beat me up! I come in peace! ). I want my engagement ring to gather the most attention!

I think I'll just go with a plain 2mm millgrained band. Perhaps the etoile for a RHR! Thanks for the honest opinions, everyone!

Although you wrote that you don't want a matching band, I can't help from admiring this look.  Your band shouldn't compete with your lovely diamond.  It should compliment it.

Here's a setting made by Coast.

Jelly,

A Coast setting was actually the inspiration for my engagement ring! If I were to go sparkly, I'd want bead-set and millgrain, and the wedding band (of the set) looks to be the closest match I've seen yet! Thanks!

I came very close to buying this set.  I ended up buying my stone from Whiteflash and ended up getting the setting from them too.  This was my second choice.  It's lovely in person!

I love the etoile and I love your e-ring. I see no reason why you shouldn't have them both  - just NOT TOGETHER! I agree with the others that they don't seem to "get along" when paired.

How about get the etoile in 3-4 mm and wear it as your wedding band (solo) and wear your e-ring on your right hand? Or, vice versa?
If there is any way to get a matching band for your e-ring (assuming you want to wear two rings together), I'd have that made or hope to find one ready-made (you might get lucky). then you can get the etoile in the future for your RH.

I had that exact band in 3 mm.  I put it up against my 2.5 mm solitaire & it didn't look right.  Also the diamonds are not large enough to see much sparkle.  It's cute up close but by scattering it, doess't allow it to sparkle.  If you really like that ring you can always get it for your right hand, or you can get it & wear it alone on your left hand on those days you don't feel like wearing your e-ring.

I thought about getting the scattered rings and did a lot of research on them.  I found some at e-weddingrings.com, bluenile.com, kriawa.com, but couldn't find anything that retained the scattered look under about 3 mm.  Check out this link:

http://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/x28222.htm

which I posted when I was looking for the type of band you are, and got a lot of wonderful replies.

I ended up doing the opposite of what you are doing; I have a wide modern e band, and went with an antique looking milgrain channel set wedding band.  I posted it here.

I love it, but it may not be a look everybody likes.

Hope this gives you some ideas!

Reb, I think your set looks great! When you said that you had a modern e-ring and antiquey w-band, I was wondering if I would like it, but WOW I really do! I think something about the proportions of your rings just really work together. Where did you end up buying your eternity band?

Thanks Gail!  It was custom made by a local jeweler in San Jose, CA.  It took a lot of trips and time to get it, as there were little mistakes that needed to be corrected along the way.  I'm happy with the end product, but it wasn't easy getting it!  I really thought I was going to get the scattered band, but it was just too much metal.  This softens the piece, and gives me three rings that I can wear in all sorts of combinations.  A lot of people here have a few different mix and match rings, and that inspired me.  That's a thought too, Ebree, you can have a few bands!  I'm going to have the eternity and the plain band put on during the ceremony, so they willl both be "wedding bands" and have the sentiment.  Maybe you can look for a scattered band to wear alone, when you don't want to wear your e ring, and then a band that goes with your ering.  A girl can never have too many rings.

Rebemdee,

I love the look you created with both your ring and band! My e-ring has diamonds in the band, however, and I can't shake the thought that a matching diamond band would overpower my beloved ring. It might not, though, and I'll definitely try a couple on! I'd go for 3 bands, but my fingers are quite short and three rings would hit my knuckle! ). Your previous thread was quite helpful, though...someone posted this website...

http://www.etienneperret.com

...with scattered diamond bands starting at 2.5mm! I don't know why they don't have a platinum band at 2.5mm (which is what I'm looking for) but if I try the style on and love it, I might enquire about them making me one.

Gail,

You're absolutely right, the styles might clash. I just have to try one on, though...it's too tempting! I love that it has just a tiny bit of sparkle.

Christian Bauer has some bands like this. They are very thin - probably less than 3mm... I don't quite know the official stats, but they looked narrower than a 3mm band.  Whatever they did to those pin-tip sized stones, no idea - at least in strong light they show what they are. IMO, in person they look more like 'band rings with s secret' than diamond rings - those little stones are vert subtle.

And then there are these...  LINK to source - haven't tried those on, but they seem a reasonable close fit to your requirement:

Hope this helps
