I have a round, 4-prong engagement ring (1.2 carat, E, SI1) with pave diamonds around the band, and my grandmother just gave me her OEC enagement ring (.9 carat, 6-prong, H, SI1) which is on a plain antiquish band (some scrollwork around the gallery).  Basically, both are platinum solitares with only a few differences.

Anyway, I love both rings but it just seems like my grandma's engagement ring is too close to my e-ring to wear at the same time (one each of my ring fingers).  Should I just go for it anyway?  I initially thought about having her e-ring reset, but it would diminish its sentimental value if I changed it too much I think.  Plus the diamond girdle is chipped, so I'm worried about it being damaged further.

Another potential solution is alternating the rings, but I've only been engaged a few months and I'm still running across people who want to see my e-ring.  I think it might sound a little strange if I said, "oh, this isn't really my ring, that's at home."

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wear it anyway you want - but if the look bothers you would you consider putting your grandmother's stone into a pendant?  If you want to keep the ring intact because of sentimental reasons then I say go for it!  You will always have a story to tell and you are very lucky to have a ring that means so much to you.

I think there is nothing at all wrong with wearing your grandmother's ring on your right hand!  I was looking at Glitterata's grandmother's rings today and one of them is set as a solitaire, too.  The only time I think it would be a little awkward is when the heirloom ring diamond is a lot larger than the e-ring diamond. That might take some attention away from the e-ring! But that is not the case with yours, so they should be fine to wear at the same time.

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
What a wonderful heirloom you have been given.  I would wear it as a RHR.  I see no reason why you shouldn't.  I just recieved my grandmother's ering and  wear it on my right hand.  Please post pics of it, I would love to see it.  You may want to take it to a local jeweler and get the prongs checked, so you don't have to worry about loosing this precious stone.  just to be on the safe side.
OMG, I had to check to see whether I wrote this post because I have the same dilema.  I'm not engaged yet, but my ring will look similar to yours (round solitaire, prong set diamonds) and my dad is mailing me my grandmother's ring tomorrow which is also a round solitaire.  I originally was going to get it made into a pendant, but I just felt like that would be destroying the integrity of the ring which meant so much to my grandma.  I'll be sure to post pics of the ring when I get it.
I had a very similar dilemma--I ended up with both grandmothers' diamond rings.
I would never be able to reset the one that's still in its original setting, I'm far too sentimental. Fortunately, I adore the setting.
I feel a little funny wearing both at once, so I alternate them. But I don't think you SHOULD feel funny--just tell anybody who asks that one's your engagement ring and the other's your grandmother's.
Or alternate, like me. You could wait a few months, until the excitement over your new engagement has died down.
Another thought is to reset your grandmother's diamond, but save the setting carefully, maybe set a colored stone in it.
Most important of all: POST PICTURES!!
