is the weekend that we may go looking for a stone. After our bare bones talk a couples of weeks ago, he said the first thing we needed to do was find a ring. Then last weekend, as we were walking through the mall, we looked into some of the mall stores, just to give him an idea of settings. At Long's they had some Scott Kay and Ritani and BF was actually liking a lot of them. I went out on a limb and asked him what his budget was. Once he told me, I said well Ritani is way out of the quesiton. Then he says that's a conservative budget, but could go up if I changed my mind about the setting (like he expects me to) But of course I worry about money and said well, a twist-tie will do. He laughs and says "ok, twist-tie it is." He then says "well, next weekend we can always go to the jewelers that I want to use and see what they have to show us. I haven't talked to the guy in quite a while." I looked at him and said are you serious? He says yeah, of course, we have to get it done soon."  I actually feel a bit nervous- like this a really real, if that makes sense.

Hmmm... the plot thickens.

I was nervous, too. Because I had kinda gotten into a comfort zone of not ever getting closer, but now that we have the setting- if not the stone, I'm just like, holy crap. We're getting married! You're going to have fun. Just enjoy it and don't focus on HAVING to get something (which I know you won't I don't know why I said that), it makes it more of a fun thing, not a serious-minded engagement thing. I'm moving a bit slow today, sorry!

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED! WE HAVE A STONE!

weight-  1.00
shape-  round brilliant
color-  F
clarity-  SI1
measurements-  6.04-5.88x4.04
Depth-  64.6
table-  56.0
crown-  13.9
pavillion-  44.5
girdle-  slightly thick
polish-  very good
symmetry- very good
culet very small

Boy does it FLASH!!!!
Of course I have no pics of it. Even though I was standing there, BF and the person helping us joined in the teasing and torture, saying 'get one last look at it, it's gone until he puts it on your finger!' I'm saying please, don't remind me! When we left the store I grabbed him in a big hug he didn't expect and we fell over, people in the lot though it was like a medical emergency or I was being attacked or something! I broke down in tears in the car, saying over and over how I couldn't believe he really wanted to do this, that my mother has been wrong all these years saying no one would want a fat freak like me, that it all was seeming so real. We went out to dinner and as we waited for a table I kept bouncing around, people must have though I was on drugs. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S REALLY HAPPENING! They said the ring would be ready in about 3 weeks maybe less, maybe before Valentine's Day! I said cool, now you have the time to plan a nice proposal evening. he smirked at me and I said well, don't plan on just leaving it on a table and saying you can wear it now.

I CAN'T CONCENTRATE ON WORK TODAY AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE! After all my whining and stress the past year wer're getting somewhere! Whne we talked more at dinner, I kept looking at him dumbfounded like I was dreaming or it was a joke. I kept saying thank I didn't expect him to do it all in one day. He say quite calmly- "I looked around online, reasearched some places, once I made up my mind, I bought it. I don't believe in making a purchase like this online, I had to see it. I wanted to make sure you got what you deserve- as near perfect as I was capable of giving you. I didn't like any of the twist-ties I had in the house." Then he says "At least the questions will stop. Everytime he talks to his sisters, they ask 'so, how are things going? Any progress?' If anything, you needed an award for tolerating me, being a guy I needed my own time. It sounds stupid because 2 years ago he knew this is what he wanted, that I made him happy and all that. He said literally it was me finishing school and asking him if he was really in this or not, because I wasn't going to include him in plans for my future if he didn't see himself there. That made him think and ask himself why he was being dumb and not getting engaged, knowing he wanted me. Then he says "You know you're stuck with me. I do this once, so I hope you know what you'r in for. I said 'back at ya!'

He told me that he was excited about last weekend and looked forward to it. That he wanted to find what would make me happy that day and do it, no point in dancing around. THEN he tells me he would still like for this to happen in Oct!!!!!!! I said you know what that means? Are you ready for that? He says, bring it on. I've wasted enough time being a guy.

Can I just say wow? All it took was one good conversation and the floodgates have opened. Next weekend I'm going to NY (he may join for a day) but the next weekend after that he already wants to start scoping some places to have a cermony!!!!!

First off, congrats because I know how important this was to you!

That said, no one else is addressing what I noticed right away, the cut of the stone. Not sure if you noticed but just figured I'd throw it out there....being that this is a diamond forum hugely concerned with cut quality of the stone.

weight-  1.00
shape-  round brilliant
color-  F
clarity-  SI1
measurements-  6.04-5.88x4.04
Depth-  64.6
table-  56.0
crown-  13.9
pavillion-  44.5
girdle-  slightly thick
polish-  very good
symmetry- very good
culet very small

That is a very small 1c stone!!! A typical well-cut 1c stone should have a diameter of 6.5mm. So basically this stone here looks more like a .70-.75c stone. The depth is very deep, so it must be hiding alot of the diameter in there, and the slightly thick girdle as well.

Anyway, if it was stunning to you, then fabulous. It is still possible for a non-ideal cut stone to be pretty. But I just had to say something about the measurements especially, because I hope you're not paying for a 1c mark stone when the stone looks like a ~.70c. That could be a huge increase. And if you guys CAN still look a bit, wouldn't you rather have a 1c stone that actually looks like a 1c stone?

If not, then ignore me and congratulations!! But if so....I would see if you can look into having this jeweler or store pull in a few more stones for you to look at. Yes you already have a stone in hand, that's awesome, but I'd do a bit more diligence on the shopping. It's great that he wanted to do it all in one day but in the end, a year later, you may look at this stone and go 'why did we get this one in the heat of the moment??' It's important to not have buyers' remorse, from a gal who did the same thing you did and then regretted it later.

Mara- no I realize that it isn't the most ideal brilliant cut stone. We did look at 7 stones (took about 3 hours) Some we looked at were way down in color (like M range) but with a lager table and it really showed the inclusions, badly. A couple other stones had better specs, but had no fire in them. Also factor in the budget we had to work with was kind of small, so with that in mind we chose what we liked. The pedigree isn't the greatest, but it was so firey and the inclusions were not noticable to the naked eye and not even glaringly obvious through the loupe. We were happy with the actual look and sparkle, although with a larger budget we may not have chosen this one. It sounds nutty, but it made me smile when it spoke to me. We weren't in a rush, did check out some other places, but better specs were so much higher in price and everything else was not pretty at all. It suits my hand even with how big my hands are. It may look smaller since my ring size is 8.5 but I'm happy. Before we made the official decision, BF asked if I wanted to see something larger, he would p the amount he would spend. I said no, no going into debt over this. I am happy with it because of what it means to me and looks beautiful.

BF is picking the setting. I said as long as it's four-prong I'm cool with his decision. I like the look of accent stones and eternity bands, but I'm hard on jewelry and do alot of projects with my hands (like work on my car) Plus I'll be proud to always have it on my hand so it has to be functional.
BF did really kick into gear. HE is feeling guilty for wasting so much time. He aslo said he wishes he had a larger budget. I said if it makes us both happy, that's what matters. We can both watch it sparkle out in the sun on our wedding day!

NYT...well then it sounds like it was really THE stone since it sang to you, and I can definitely understand budget constraints...congrats and enjoy the stone and ring!

I wish I was a fly on a car in that parking lot ... tackle, touchdown!!! CONGRATS!!! Dontcha love guys ... 0-60 in no time flat! Can't wait to see pix.

p.s - I was so sorry to read about your Mom's attitude. I'm plus-sized myself but have always realized (by looking around, really--at real life people, not our fabulously unrealistic media) that love isn't reserved for perfect people. We can all have some, if we love ourselves first!

deco- no kidding about 0-60! It's almost like he has become the girl rushing to the altar. Hey, it's cool with me!

My mom is just one of those people that liek to have everything their way- including her children. She relaly isn't happy with any of us, since none of became little, quiet, speak when spoken to secrataries or something. My oldest sister is a nurse, middle a retail mamager and me data entry crossing to massage therapy. But our clashes have been notorious over the years since my teens. She wanted her youngest be a sucessful doctor or lawyer. Nope! She now has me- a proud size 10, independent, sometimes flamboyant, aspiring healer/therapist Wiccan!  But I'm healthy, I work out, love my velvet wardrobe and have a man who loves women with real curves. Boy, she can't STAND that!

Hee hee... wait until she, ahem, notices the ring. CAN'T WAIT!
