Oops! Somehow I hit Submit before I wrote anything... Anyway has anyone ever gone into a mall store and been given a PLASTIC 'sample setting'?! I was in the mall today at Christian Bernard and decided to check out some halo settings where I was handed a plastic 'sample setting' and the oddest and most ANNOYING part was the sales associate told me that they could make an different head for my diamond. And that she knew EXACTLY what my 'cushion' (which I guess it is one) diamond was...when my mother started looking at the HOF Dream diamonds. Great. Then the sales associate started talking about they are the most 'perfectly cut diamonds' blah blah blah much more sparkle blah. My mother who is starting to look for an anniversary ring tried on a 3 stone. At this point I said something like "Wow those are sparkly but those don't have arrows like mine" Apparently the sales associate took real offense and started 'lecturing' us on the 'most perfectly cut diamond'. Whatever ...then she tried to pressure me into buying the setting based on the plastic one...even the 'diamond' in the setting was plastic. I didn't even bother asking the price. It's not even the plastic settings that bothered me the most...it was the condescending attitude of this sales woman...I mean yes I'm young but come on young consumers can be educated ones too. Sheesh.

Sounds rather unpleasant sorry to hear this...The plastic thingie wouldn't have bothered me much: with a custom design you get nothing to try on or see after all - unless the ring is cast and there is a wax model. Silver models are nicer (and some custom jewelers would even make such things for one of a kind orders and their own displays) - but not common. The way it was presented and the pushy sales pitch is quite another matter ![]() I wonder if this authoritarian, pushy sales tactic works on most and we are just the wrong type of client for such shops. So annoying! Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Ana: I totally agree! Plus to have them make a custom setting would be major $$$ as in probably 3 times more than what I'm willing to pay
