'Good soldiers follow orders and hundreds of American military men and women returned to the United States on holiday leave this month with orders to sell the Iraq war to a skeptical public.'

Date: 12/29/2005 3:23:44 PM Author:movie zombie The message is clear, says one reservist who is home for the holidays but has to return and asked not to be identified. If you want to get out of this man's Army with an honorable (discharge) and full benefits you better not tell the truth about what is happening in-country. Damn straight! George W. has had enough trouble with hero soldiers who come home after faithful service and dare to tell the truth! Look at all the trouble John Kerry caused him and he didn't even have any charisma! Deb

the quotes are from soldiers currently stationed in iraq or returned. don't blame the messenger for reporting the facts. peace, movie zombie "I don't feel enjoyment watching films that evoke passivity. In general I do not believe that the "big" story line here is credible; but, acknowlede that some of this may be going on by junior officers who are trying to impress. I served 5 years in the Navy immediately after nam. I saw some interesting things happen. I do not belive that any senior officer would be pushing such an agenda - they know all to well how the troops respond - and the long term (negative) effects on their command. The most they might politly ask is that you respond with thought and dignity towards their fellow servicemen when conducting interviews and talking to freinds. I recall such request, and never felt that their was any pressure not to be able to tell my side of what I saw in some of the things that happened - just to be respectfull to our breathern troups in our comments. However, junior officers may think that this is the way to get ahead - and in some cases may be putting such pressure on the people immediately under them. I have seen that also. Methinks that they will either learn that it really does not work - or that they will not long be officers. As far as "shooting" the messanger. How far did they dig before putting up this story - did they look for the bigger picture truth about what is probably happening - or did they go for the "instant" story that would get attention. I don't know the answer to that one - but as a person who sat top front cover of a 3 part serialized "expose" of "mismanagment" in a local city newspaper many years ago - with all my responses to the multipage list of "allegations" essentially printed as "Mr. ......." indicated that he had to do that" (without mentioning the facts that I presented in the interviews that I was in fact complying with the laws that the plant had been breaking for years - or implementing common industry practice - or how I saved $3000 disposal cost on that tote of chemicals by just giving it away);.... I have my suspicions. Perry

Perry, You ask some good questions here, as have Mine and F&I with other such posts. You're right, a bit of skepticism is probably in order. Richard W. Hughes |
