does abazias have anyone "in-house" that can review stones the way some of the other PS vendors do (brian at wf for example)? thanks

Every dealer who sells diamonds is capable of performing their own review of a diamond "in-house". WHile diamonds may seem complex to consumers, diamond dealers know them inside and out. What remains an issue is the potential for "bias" when a review is "in-house". The in house reviews can be a pure as freshly fallen snow, but they cannot replace an unbiased examination by a third party who wants to protect consumers from potential problems. Those that provide in-house reviews generally make a very valid effort to make your buying experience satisfactory and honest, but not everyone wants to believe that these reviews are totally unbiased. For those who feel comfortable enough, an in-house review may suit them. For those who recognize the further value of an objective third party, an out-of-house- review is how they need to proceed. We have seen nothing problematic for consumers who are dedicated shoppers. After while, you can tell a good stone from a poor one and a good deal from a bad deal. Fine tuning it with an outside, expert opinion is a great last step for those who want to be totally comfortable with their choice. David S. Atlas |

Dave, I don't think he's using the word review to mean "appraisal".....I think he's trying to make sure someone can eyeball the stone inhouse. Meaning "is the stone part of inhouse inventory or virtual inventory". Having said that, your post reads a bit like an ad. Unusual for you, but thought I'd point it out. _____________________ |

I agree with Al. It would be nice to find a vendor with a good selecion of stones to show you. If he or she is trustworthy and knowedeable, as is Brian, I am sure you will not be misled into thinking this takes the place of an unbiased appraisal. I is just a sceening and learnig process so that if you do select a stone or stones to send out for appraisal, youae sending out quality stones. You may not agree, as this customer did as to what your requirements are for a great looking stone. Having a vendor help you by showing you what he believes to be his best in stock selection certainly does not take the place of an appraisal by an expert like you, David. Thee are many things to know about a stone and its deficiencies and only a qualified appraiser can give you the reassurance you need to feel you made the correct choice. I have looked at many diamonds in my search but would certainly trust your eyes over mine when it comes to making a choice. I do not agree that your post sounded like a commercial since it represents the views of most Pricescope customers. The only prolbem is in finding a qualified appraiser. I would trust you and a few other highly regarded ones who often post here and are most helpful. But i felt the appraisal I got on my rng was not worth much and i am hoping to make a trip to Philadelphia to have you appraise my jewelry and reappraise my ring.

Guess so... Too bad there isn't some way to tell which stones are 'in house'. The 'Specials' seem so... because actual pictures are available. Surprising for their signature H&A - those you'd expect to have been inspected. It has been a while since anyone from Abazias passed by this forum. Maybe they could clarify if you asked. I am sure you know all too well what the in-house review if good and what it isn't good for. At the very least, the seller should have even less reason than you do to have a stone returned. And Abazias does have a return policy that makes this logic hold. If there are any pictures sent, you could ask for Pricescope's 2c And second what everyone says about independent appraisal. I said that most people who shop well don't need appraisal services, but some might feel more comfortable. I assume people will select an appraiser they feel good about. I don't promote my services as better than anyone else or cheaper, etc. Each appraiser here is different and the consumer has free choice, which I don't wish to alter. One could say every post that I make is advertising. I might even agree that offering good advice, in a seemingly balanced atmosphere, somehow makes my opinion better than other opinions. It isn't unethcial to seek business based on merit. I am promoting the services of ALL qualified appraisers when I post comments here and I always make the attempt to do it in a fair way. Hope that clears the air and makes you understand my feelings on this. I would be pleased to pay for advertising and have spent thousands to do so over the years. Little has ever been so well rewarded as my free participation here. Something is working on Pricescope better than anywhere I have ever participated or spent ad money on. Love it! David S. Atlas |
