Month and Months of research and still no center stone...Ugh

Do emerald cuts show as much color as radiants?

I've been looking at radiant for months now...they show so much color IMHO. (i.e. doesnt face up white unti about g or better.)

I may give up and try emerald cut do they show as much color?

P.S. i like rectangular shaped stones...

TIA

depending on how they are cut, radiants can show more color.  that is why many fancy yellow diamonds are cut as radiants, to intensify the color.  if you like elongated shapes, and emerald cut would certainly fit that criteria.

I think both emerald cuts and radiants can show color.  Also, they are two very different looking shapes.  The emerald cut has a more understated sparkle, whereas the radiant, if it's cut well, has a very bright sparkle similar to the round brilliant.  So, although both can be rectangular shaped they will look very different from each other.  I personally love radiants, although I agree with you that I wouldn't buy anything higher than a G.  Mine is an F, and very white.  For an emerald I still wouldn't buy anything higher than a G though because I believe they can also show color.  You would have to ask the emerald cut owners here how much color their diamonds show.

I believe Tacori e-ring (her name) has an emerald cut that is an I.  I'm doing this from memory so bear with me.  She said it faces up very white.  Only in certain lights (don't remember which) can she see a tiny hint of sandyness to the color in the pavilion.

Depends on the size of the stone, IMO. What size range are you looking for?

I'm looking for 2 carats or better.  Cant sacrifice clarity on an emerald cut so i'm hoping to sacrifice color.

Depends how color-sensitive you are- I think EC's in comparison with other shapes show color and/or inclusions so much more.  When we were looking (I have an ec) we wanted nothing less than G/VS2... there was just no compromising.

Thanks Shay. My EC is an I/VS1 and is beautiful. It is VERY white. For us color was the last on the wish list. I personally do not like Radiants. Crinkled plastic wrap is how another PSer discribes them. (no offense to those who have/love them) It is all the matter of personal taste. I like patterns. So asschers, ECs, and RBs with hearts and arrows are the cuts I am drawn to. They look "cleaner" and "neater" to me. I would not let a H/I stone scare you away. ECS are a cut that you really need to see in person to judge. Good luck.
