My mother and sister threw me an amazing shower at a gorgeous French patisserie here in NY.  We were a total of 25 women and we had a private room.  It was a tea party with petite sandwiches, pastries, champagne, coffee and of course, tea!  I had a blast!!!  It wasn't a surprise but I was completely shocked by the outpouring of love and gifts!  I have no problem being the center of attention but I was really overwhelmed when I realized everybody was there for ME!!!!  I cried like a baby during my thank you speech!  This was the first time I really felt like a bride and I have to say, I LOVED IT!!!

For those of you who were wondering whether or not you should register, I am here to say that you definitely should!  I got almost everything I registered for and I am just thrilled!  My girlfriends set up an assembly line where one would pick the gift and take off the ribbons, the next would unwrap it and hand it to me, I would open it and then pass it along to the next one who would re-package it.  It worked really well!  They also had enough ribbons to make me a hat and a bouquet!!  People were exceedingly generous with their gifts--I was almost embarrassed!!!  I got lots of lingerie too which was funny to open up in front of my mother, until I realized that she bought me some too!!  But I really didn't get any junk and don't have to return anything which is a big bonus.

To those of you with showers coming up, enjoy yourselves to the fullest!!  This is one of the two days where everyone is doing everything for you and you just get to sit back and have fun.  Just look pretty and let everyone wait on you.  Make the most of it and laugh all day with your friends and family.  It was great to put aside all the planning woes for one day and just relax.  Now back to reality...

I enjoyed reading about your day!  Sounds as if you are blessed beyond measure!!  How great!!  No need to "go back to reality".  Continue to bask in the out pouring of love...your friends and family want you to!

Hi Curly Girl.

It sounds like your shower was a blast!  How wonderful to have all of your friends and family give you such a special day.  I'm glad they did such a good job, and that you were able to sit back and enjoy things.

Just curious -- I'm new to NYC and I love to find new restaurants, shops, etc. to visit.  Would you mind telling me where the Patisserie is?  You can PM me if you don't want to post it here.  Thanks!

Hi Elle!

It's Payard Patisserie on Lexington between 73rd and 74th.  The chef is the famous Francois Payard and he's actually there every day.  Everything is delicious!

That's so cool you got lingerie too!  I'm guessing you didn't register for THAT!  I got my girlfriend some lingerie for her shower last summer and you know, I was the only guest to give her any.  I feel like that's the point of a BRIDAL shower, is to give you bride stuff (not a blender or a rice cooker!).

So glad to hear that you had a great time and thank you for the advice!
