Birthday Present?!?

Mine's coming up in the next two weeks or so and my BF wants me to pick out what I want....but of course I don't know what I want. -He doesn't usually make these requests, but he has a HUGE test (law school) the day after my birthday and wants to not feel pressured about what to get me- I don't want to request anything over $100- he pays for our housing so I don't want to get carried away.....What do I choose?

I almost always pick out my gifts.  I never used to, but it is nice getting what you want, and he likes knowing that he is buying me something I REALLY want.  He is good at suprises to, but this year i had been dying for a michele watch, and he knew how much i wanted it.  If you dont want to tell him exactly, mention a few different things.  It makes everyones lives that much easier.

For my birthday last May, my SO told me he wanted to buy me earrings and we went to pick them out together. It still felt very special to me.

In my family, we've actually had gift lists for years. It makes it easier for the parents and siblings to buy each other things they really want. Sometimes I give/get things that isn't on the list, but it's because they know I wanted it/I know they wanted it.

I wish my boyfriend had a gift list... I'm lucky this year though, because his birthday is on December 8th and I bought him a rather pricey watch (for my itty-bitty student budget anyway ) for our second anniversary and I told him he was all-set for the rest of the year! I'm still getting him a little surprise for Christmas, though!

Do you have a charm bracelet? I think they are the perfect gift. James Avery has serveral really nice ones in differing styles. Then he could choose some sort of charm for the bracelet and whenever he wanted/needed to get you a little something he could buy you a charm.

I don't like this at all. I'm the kind of person that usually always has to be in the know- but with this scenario I feel like a little let down that I'll know everything. Last year he got me a Tiffany Ring and had this best friend make me a surprise Custom Reese Cup Cheese Cake for my party. This year- Nada.  I know, Stop winning.  Ok.

That's a great idea Mata! Thanks!

I guess it's all reletive.  I dated my ex for a year and a half and the only gift I got was a bathrobe.  That's it...for a year and a half.  So, it would've seemed nice to pick out a gift.  But I see what you mean.  If I were aiming for $100, I'd probably go for a watch or a cashmere scarf.  I love cashmere!

When's your b-day?

IndiBlue,

Do you have an iPod? The iPod "Shuffle" is $99.00, and it holds 120 songs. Perfect for running or traveling or just for whenever.

A really great makeup palette might be an idea:

My fiance got me this pendant (in sterling silver) on a sterling silver chain last Christmas and I LOVE it. It's simple and beautiful.

Just some ideas. Early happy birthday!

Thanks all for the good ideas.... Ironically alot of the things mention I already have.
The pendent, my Mom got me for graduation with 3 (past, present, future) a few years back- definatey one of my favorite presents ever.

I'm thinking a nice jewlery box, I found I one that is engravable- he mention tonight that he liked that idea, but didn't like when I asked that he not engrave with my current intials (seeing as how I'm bound to get married sometime in the next century).

Thanks for the early wishes, but its not till the 30th. Thanksgiving First

For $100 you have a lot of options. Right now I'd probably go for a warm sweater or dvds of my favorite show or since it is cold out new set of gloves & matching scarf or dvds of one of my favorite tv shows. Sort of like Anchor said, I was going to recommend shopping together. Or also, like she said, my family does the wish lists so aunts/godparents/immediate family have ideas. Might be good to do as well for him, then he is guided and it isnt super time consuming for him, but you're still surprised. Lol, so basically I had the same thoughts as Anchor and probably didn't need to post

I used to be! For 21 years of my life. I live in California now, but I have two beautiful pieces of JA jewelry from my fiance when we lived there (birthday, christmas gifts).

I can't offer any ideas.  But for me since my b-day and Christmas are close together, I email a list of things I want to the BF (with links so there is no confusion) and then he can pick what he wants to from the list.  That way I don't know exactly what he's getting me, and he can be sure its something I want.

Downside, no presents on the actual day...(My family celebrates at Thanksgiving)

I can beat that- I was with a guy for 3 years- and the only thing he bought me was a metal ladybug nightlight. And I'm 26!! Hello- nightlight?

I'm stuck because I don't know what to get my BF for x-mas. He's got everything. The thing I always get him is a magazine subscription, but I don't know what else... He always gets me such good things- iPods, watches, jewelry, shoes... Makes me feel like a schlub.

If it were up to me I'd pick out all my gifts for every occasion.    I don't like surprises.

AmberWaves- I know just how you feel so I got V a ton of little things this year instead of one big one. In case some of these might work for you;
1) A swaetshirt of the album that "our song" is on
2)A rosary blessed by the Pope (he was an alter boy until he left for college)
3) leather portfoli for all his day to day papers, it has an adjustable slide to hold his PDA
4) Exotic meats jerky, okay this sounds weird but he loves jerky so I found buffalo, elk, and diffrent beef spicing ones (5lbs)
5) another shirt with an insdie joke related to it
6) he knows about this one, I found the perfect Christmas present for his mother, a bracelet made out of rose betal formed into beads, it will always carry the scent of roses

HTH
